  1. I think that's the reasoning behind having North Dakota ties - we want someone who knows what he's getting into and going to be happy. I am pretty satisfied with the names that have risen to the top on this thread.

    New Coach?

This job closed yesterday, so I would expect something soon.
  3. Digging up more facts. Roy Williams (Boschee's collegiate coach) was 38 when he was named HC at Kansas (first collegiate HC job).
  4. Probably not a fair comparison, but Coach K was 33 when he became the head coach of Duke. (Previously had 5 seasons of DI HC experience at Army)
  5. All right, you sold me.
  6. I was out of touch with UND BB when Herbst was on staff, so when that name was brought up, it was unknown to me. He does seem like a good candidate, and I would be excited for the Herbst era. I am also very intrigued by Jeff Boschee. To have a coach that has played in the Final Four and under legendary coach Roy Williams would definitely be a real shot in the arm on multiple levels - media, recruiting, donors. My only concern - with those experiences, why hasn't he gone further than Missouri Southern HC already?
  7. I like flagship u!
  8. Any name(s) come to mind with that description?

    New Coach?

  10. First time chiming in on this topic. First off, I agree with the poster (could be in the “who’s next” thread, not sure) who said this move is probably mutually beneficial for both UND and Jones. I am excited for what a new guy can bring to the table. That being said, I do want to thank Brian Jones for his time here. Yeah, it could be frustrating watching his teams sometimes, but he did navigate a situation that no one would envy, and eventually brought a Conference championship (was also close to one earlier, too) and an NCAA tournament appearance, which is absolutely the most exposure a school of UND’s stature is going to get (unless they do something crazy in football ala NDSU, which I don’t think will ever be replicated, including by the Bison). As a fan, I am more in the Hockey, Football, and Volleyball crowd, but a winning DI program at UND would get me more excited about college basketball in general outside of the month of March.

    New Coach?

He wasn’t shy about bashing the weather. He also never took his Texas plates off his Bronco, so his long term commitment was never there.
  12. Weird. Never heard of it.

    2019 Season

Great podcast. I agree with Alex that 7 wins is an achievable goal for this season. Would love for it to be more than 7, especially if one is against you know who. Excited to see it on the field.
  14. At what point would you say it was last "fun"? Personally, I've always felt the atmosphere was a bit "uppity" since the beginning. Now, don't get me wrong, the place has had its moments: 2006 NCAA regional, Gwozdecky ejection, Gopher destructions, and Pogo's OT penalty shot are the ones that come to mind for me. But mostly, it's a place to be seen. The reduced interest of students (talked about on many threads throughout this forum) probably has a lot to do with it.

Yes, the comments of the chat have got me excited for the season. Things really do seem to be looking up.
  16. Nice write up on these two. Excited to see what they bring to the table.
  17. I was hoping there would be an article on this. Never been to Buffalo, so I can't speak from experience, but as a seasoned traveler, going to Buffalo in April just doesn't seem like much fun. I think going forward, the NCAA needs to eliminate "stale" cities like Buffalo, and start incorporating "destination" cities like Nashville, Phoenix, and NYC, as well as returning to Tampa, Denver, Chicago, and DC. Cities with historic college hockey fan bases like St. Paul, Detroit, and Boston should be kept in the mix as well, since they've earned it, even if they don't conjure images of "destinations." Any cities (either good or bad) that I am missing?
  18. Not sure if that's the greatest company to be in. Before 2002 and 2003, Minnesota hadn't won since 1979 (23 years), and hasn't won since (16+ years - longer than UND's drought). Before 2004 and 2005, Denver hadn't won since 1969 (35 years!). I don't want that many years of irrelevance just to go back-to-back.

    ITS OVER!!!

I've felt the same way about being numb to the losses and lack of success the last two seasons. Winning the national championship is what did it for me. To not have that curse hanging over the program was such a relief for me that I am a lot more ok with this result than if we didn't have that natty trophy and banner.

    Who's gonna be there today?
  23. The old WCHA and Hockey East used to have a scheduling agreement. Something like that would be good again. It would be neat to schedule one non-conference opponent from every conference every year. There's good teams in every conference (well, except maybe Atlantic Hockey).
  24. Lots of opportunities for upward mobility. Still have another game against WMU, plus 2 games against UMD, plus the nCHC tournament against ranked teams.
  25. So far so good...
