  1. Great question. If I were a betting man, I would say no, since the '16 conference banner will pair up nicely with the '15 conference banner, and nobody will yet have had a real opportunity to digest the new logo/graphic identity. And 'consistency' would be a convenient out if the Hawks logo is not warmly received ("they didn't play under that logo, so the interlocking ND it is"). They could, however, follow the Sioux/REA model eventually, and retroactively apply a future Hawks logo to previous banners. Intentionally silent on NC talk.
  2. This should be required viewing for this thread: http://imgur.com/gallery/tBgCZ Imagine the possibilities.
  3. You're not changing my mind. It's dumb and boorish, and I think we should expect a little class from all fans. (FWIW, I don't think the boos were only coming from the student section.)
  4. For what it's worth, if they're gonna play 4 (or 5) straight in Denver, the first two are actually the least important.
  5. Just heard the smattering of boos for the "Fighting Hawks" penalty announcement. At this point, it's just plain tired. Neither vindictive, nor clever, nor cute. More of a statement on intelligence (or lack thereof) than any type of meek protest. Give it up, guys. It's run its course. For your own dignity, please, give it up.
  6. You're unhappy with people making assumptions and having opinions, and you keep harping on the NCAA's "stance" as if it's a mystery, but we already know where they stand. In fact, you're not going to get much more out of them than what was publicly stated more than 10 years ago: http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/PressArchive/2005/Announcements/NCAA%2BExecutive%2BCommittee%2BIssues%2BGuidelines%2Bfor%2BUse%2Bof%2BNative%2BAmerican%2BMascots%2Bat%2BChampionship%2BEvents.html Folks can argue about what "Native American imagery" means, but the only opinion that matters is the one coming out of Indianapolis. And, as is so often the case, you won't know you've violated the "policy" until it's too late. To be clear, UND can certainly choose to play with fire by paying a feathery homage to the Sioux logo, but the NCAA has doused the field with gasoline and North Dakota is fresh out of aloe vera. Feathered birds are fine, as are feathered boas, for that matter. But anything even remotely NA or NA-inspired with exaggerated, decorative feathering or a feathered headdress or similar arrangement not found in nature is dead in the water.
  7. That is, when the PA guys upstairs aren't completely drowning out the band with whatever song/promo is being played. Until the band and the Alerus sound guy get their acts together, all is futile.
  8. That alone would justify showing up at one of SME's forums, or at least reaching out through whatever online surveys, e-mail, etc., they put out there. Don't assume they're being provided anything.
  9. http://www.inforum.com/sports/3977921-ndsu-cancels-fcs-trophy-tour-sioux-falls-after-sdsu-fans-complain Boo freaking hoo, SDSU. What is up with this? Sports fans are collectively getting dumber by the minute.
  10. http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/education/3960023-forum-attendees-want-unds-logo-be-unique-not-cheesy-bird Not sure if I'm embarrassed or not, but weren't the designers told all about how fiercely loyal, rabid, and passionate the UND fan base was, and about how much the University meant to the community and the people of North Dakota? That's all we've heard for months, especially on here...designers need to do this, designers need to do that, I want a lollipop, designers need to hear from me, my opinion matters, look at what I drew. There needs to be an absolute moratorium on future negative logo comments by anyone on here who lives within 100 miles of GF and didn't bother to show up.
  11. Maybe I missed it, but where did Brien's fee requirements get mentioned? You're not just making things up, are you?
  12. I'm not looking to bash the PW, just for some perspective. I actually like numbers and scientific analysis, and I surely don't want to jump off the 'Pairwise is flawed' cliff, BUT...how is UNO still even in the conversation? Polled extremely high early, but now sits squarely at 6th in conference, with some spectacular meltdowns in the 2nd half. Is Pairwise so good that it's hard for mere mortals to appreciate? Is it simply designed to be perfectly objective and appropriately forgiving? Is a 10-0 non-conference record really a miracle drug for an otherwise mediocre season? Is UNO's resume worthy of an at-large bid?
  13. Availability on (presumably) short notice? Seating and existing AV equipment? (Pretty much rules out HPC.) Lots of legitimate explanations lest anyone not be looking for a conspiracy. Maybe SMC is getting a comprehensive tour of athletics facilities while they're here. Not sure why we have to complain or make an issue about every little thing. Can't wait to hear about their ties not matching their socks.
  14. You have arbitrarily designated as the "standard" against which all future drawings are to be judged an unsolicited, off the cuff rendering from God-knows-who who just happened to throw something together as a "concept" but who couldn't be bothered to submit a bid to UND so their qualifications could be vetted. That, and we don't know what these yahoos would have charged, or whether they've done any due diligence to ensure originality, and I'm going to go out on a limb and guess they didn't do any of the things that UND promised it would do in terms of gathering public input from a diverse group of stakeholders.
  15. Serious question, as I don't know the field. Are there not ethical problems with including in one's "portfolio" work that was neither solicited nor used, where the "clients" never engaged the artist and are otherwise readily identifiable? Does "concept art" permit an artist to mislead future prospective clients as to past engagements?
  16. But honestly, how many Sioux fans are in the market for design services at any given moment? The ROI on the design time here has got to be super low. Did these yahoos even submit a bid to UND?
  17. Yeah, you must have missed GLABS' previous two business ventures: driving an ice cream truck outside the walls of a fat farm, and selling roller skates at the Shriners Hospital. Next they will be selling meth outside of rehab clinics. Not sure I get the point of teasing angry and emotionally-fried people with what they cannot have, but whatever.
  18. I suspect that if these guys overhear you mention that you're hungry, they'll cater your dinner without being asked or paid. Just don't say anything about feeling frisky.
  19. Nine minutes? Sounds like an eternity for an armed robbery in progress. Good find, BTW.
  20. No offense to anyone, but aren't college hockey boards just about the lowest of the low hanging fruit on the internet? Kind of like a gang of heavily armed robbers targeting $1.00 stores?
  21. That particular microphone would curiously stop working or worse, malfunction, thereby electrocuting the person asking the question.
  22. Don't know why I never noticed it before..."Here come your University of North Dakota Spearfishing Yellow Snakes"! Is it too late to suggest a new name?
  23. Selling, which itself keeps the trademark alive, costs the University nothing. Instead, selling earns the University a royalty.
