  1. Maybe. But including your family connections in your resume is a wee bit tacky, no? I mean, a subtle, CASUAL reference in your cover letter is one thing, but to put your freaking family lineage in your resume? When it's completely obvious from your last name anyway? Sounds like something a Kennedy, Vanderbilt, or a British royal would do...not a middle aged man from Grand Forks, even though he is as close to GF/hockey royalty as people are going to get around here.
  2. Anybody know what city's skyline is painted on the backplate of Cam Johnson's goalie mask?
  3. UAH goaltender was a stud. Some don't like the tired, old cliche, but it rang true tonight.
  4. Alerus has two brand new HQ video/scoreboards. What the heck passes for a "jumbotron" these days?
  5. Paid subscriptions to siouxsports.com.
  6. http://www.grandforksherald.com/opinion/letters/3910873-letter-memo-fighting-hawks-logo-designer-have-fun This guy gets it. When was the last time any of this was fun? Haven't we had enough solemnity, seriousness, and negativity?
  7. Fargo selling at $1.69. Grand Forks 30 cents higher. Just throwing that out there.
  8. All artists are underpaid the first time...authors, actors, songwriters, musicians, playwrights. Heck, some of the most celebrated painters and sculptors of all time didn't see a dime during their lifetimes. And it doesn't matter whether they break out with a blockbuster, a best-seller, or a number one hit, because the deal is always negotiated at the front end when there is no leverage and bargaining power is nil. Life ain't fair, but the creative arts are a downright swindle.
  9. But where is the tree nut free allergy zone?
  10. If by "honeymoon" you mean just about the amount of time it will take a 19-year-old premature ejaculator to finish with his supermodel hot bride, sure. That's IF he lasts the elevator ride up to the bridal suite.
  11. Absolutely! Need to stay ahead of the pack. Besides, at current concession prices, the REA should be able to absorb this in a weekend or two.
  12. I agree, but that is not necessarily a popular opinion around here. It came up a while back and, well...
  13. Nice analogy. At least his/her demons are all internal, whereas UND's reside in Indianapolis. I wonder which transition cost more...
  14. So Padron's is now open at the site of the former Sweeto Burrito. Not much has changed on the inside, and the menu seems to be equally familiar. Replaced some of Sweeto's items with an assortment of burgers. Burrito was okay (portions seemed smaller), but I have a hard time believing that the same concept will play for these guys when it bombed so miserably for their predecessors. Bring in a Chipotle or even a Panchero's, and I think it will do better.
  15. STP tribute. Nice job, boys. RIP, Scott.
  16. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-dollar_salary Lots of famous, non-elected folks on this list. But that's the entire point…some leaders set out to make a statement, some like to make a mint. (See what I did there?)

  18. For all of his political savvy, I'm surprised that Schafer would so soon take an anti-establishment stand on a higher ed issue that was trounced not once but twice in Bismarck in the past few sessions. Heck, I hope he can pull it off, but it would take a miracle in the House. http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/education/3895892-schafer-nd-should-look-keeping-und-president-applicants-names-public-view
  19. No disagreement here. That was beyond tacky and he wins the ND Summer's Eve Disposable of the Year Award in my book.
  20. Reading comprehension may not be your strong suit. Who said anything about demanding? All we know is what he took. And it stands to reason that he could have taken less. No ire there; I begrudge no one the opportunity to make money. If I remember correctly, everybody wet their pants when this guy was hired because he was the home-grown, affable, friend to all. What he lacked in academic credentials he more than made up for in character and integrity. He would bridge the gap, and heal the divide. Walk on water. All that stuff. Now if he doesn't move mountains, he'll just be another overpaid "educrat", hired without broad faculty support, and earning some $200k for what, six months of cutting ribbons? A lot of household names, a-listers, celebrities, token hires, and others who don't need the money voluntarily choose to draw a salary below market (sometimes well below) when they take an honorary or leadership position. I thought that might have been the noble gesture here.
  21. It's a generous package for an interim 'chair-warming' gig, at a school facing a budget shortfall, in a state facing badly-missed revenue projections. I think what this amounts to is conditioning for the fact that the next president will be paid considerably more than Kelley has been, and we all know how popular the NDUS leadership has been in certain circles around the state.
  22. Taking a big salary is a <insert feminine hygiene product of choice here> move. More power to him, of course, but he also had the power to take much less. http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/3895700-ed-schafer-signs-almost-six-months-und Lest we forget... http://www.grandforksherald.com/opinion/featured-columnists/3884216-onlooker-not-perfect-perhaps-best-choice-und
  23. Insularity, arrogance, self-importance. North Dakota in a nutshell. God forbid UND look for the best and most qualified, or even dare to look outside of Grand Forks. Because, hey, we just got rid of a head logo, in profile, looking left, with colored feathers, and that one worked well enough for us. So, instead of opening our minds to new ideas, let's just hunker down and do the same, exact thing...in bird form.
  24. Now let's see a full-body mascot and some plushes for the kids.
  25. This observation (and the litany of nitpicking that precedes it) is but one reason why you need to consider handing this off to a professional designer who has no connection to UND. Ben Brien, a current student, a "local artist," a siouxsports.com poster with 6,838 posts…with all due respect, none of these people have sufficient objectivity or a broad-enough world view, and will likely try too hard and their work will suffer for it.
