Two thoughts about responsible use of public funds for "roads and bridges": 1. Improving 42nd to go under/over the rail line is a luxury, not a necessity. I've waited for those trains, and while a nuisance, it's never been a life or death situation. There are alternate routes. Maybe coordinating schedules with BNSF would be a good start. Heck, I'd rather invest public funds to relocate the entire yard a few miles west of town. THAT would be a re-development game changer for Grand Forks. 2. I-29 interchanges should be paid for by the landowners who stand to benefit the most. As the I-29 corridor is developed to the south, commercial and retail frontage properties will skyrocket in value. The new interchange will spawn gas stations, convenience stores, restaurants, strip malls, and even single- and multi-family residential development. Why give those landowners and developers a free ride? The same analysis applies to the mythical bridge crossing the Red, and we can share half of that with Minnesota anyway. I would prefer not to give the City a blank check for either project.

If this doesn't make the pregame video montage at REA, I'll be crushed. https://deadspin.com/youth-hockey-coach-fired-for-completely-fucking-bonkers-1820145170 -

On the other hand, having attended both parades this year, I would definitely be in favor of combining them into a single event. Not sure that GF/UND can fully support two parades so close in time.

Why not incorporate the French Fry Feed into pre-game/tailgating festivities?

Good question. UND students have a pregame chant all ready to go...WHO'S HE?, HE SUCKS SHIP! Their team would likely have seven C's. And the goalie mask possibilities are endless:

I don't see where it says it's written. What's your point?

That's not AD material. More like a couple of Ds material.

Smart money is on the current REA leadership being the successful bidder to run/manage the arena even after ownership reverts to UND. UND is not going to go it alone.

If you have a Wii, you can download the original NES version for a couple bucks and re-live a cherished part of your youth. For a few minutes anyway, after which you wonder what in the world you were thinking enjoying those crappy games back in the day. And your kids will mock you.

One thing that won't get much older is the Herald. Have you picked up a copy of that thing lately? Paper carriers need to weigh it down with rocks so it doesn't blow off the porch.

Women's hockey fans should look away, because the best part of the whole thing is that the buyout - whatever it ends up being - is probably coming right out of the money saved by trimming the athletic department. Probably couldn't afford two AD salaries any other way. And I suspect the next guy gets a bump.
-
Litigation is an expensive distraction and a very public pain in the butt that could drag on for years. And some lawyers work on contingency, so it's not necessarily true that it's costing both sides the same. Buyouts are money well spent; how much depends on how much there is to fear - even if the employer thinks they did everything right. When the employee is older, age discrimination creeps in and that's no picnic for employers to defend either. Cash for silence. Couldn't be any simpler than that.

underground.und.edu It's an online sell and swap site...kind of like a micro-Craigslist for the UND community. -
Keeping sales tax < 7% is a good start. Impose/increase $3/night lodging and $3/day rental car taxes to minimize impact on locals. Establish a new $50 fine for driving under the speed limit in the left lane on Columbia.

Cities that already tax their citizens into oblivion and realize you can only raise the sales tax so far.
