MacKenzie River, 236 S Main Ave, Sioux Falls, SD 57104 It's a chain, but I was there about a year ago and it was decent.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but UND fans should go and have fun, and trying to sell off your tickets (especially on here, not to mention minutes after UND got eliminated) is a douche move. Supporting the event by showing up is the best way to ensure that UND will continue to have host bids awarded in the future. You should represent, and wear Sioux gear and drive the NCAA nuts when you get on camera. For as much grief as we all give the other regionals for having crappy attendance, I would think that UND fans would not want the event hosted by their school to look equally pathetic. Remember - the Fighting Hawks logo will be evident on the boards and very likely the ice.

All sports are suffering. It is a changing cultural dynamic, and cannot be traced to a singular cause, let alone a single franchise, venue, or event. Some convenient places to direct your ire: Phones - Nobody pays attention to anything, anywhere. Especially 18-22 year olds. Enhanced viewing options - HDTV was the ultimate game changer, right along with expanded cable offerings, subscription only services, home-to-mobile viewing, unlimited data plans for mobile devices., etc. Cost - This is a no-brainer. Between ticket, parking, and concessions, attending live sporting events is expensive. Competitive balance - Parity reigns supreme in many sports right now. Traditional powerhouses are struggling, some for the first time in a generation or more. The future is not very bright. As college students fade away from interest in their own school's sports, those behaviors are likely to carry into adulthood and will have some effect on attendance at major pro events, many of which are already seeing diminished demand for tickets.

Even if you are 100% correct, that may well correlate to UND's academic quality initiative and the cut-backs could have been at underperforming schools. And it's a huge stretch to imply that a HS guidance counselor in the Twin Cities with 100s of students to place will somehow 'forget' about UND because they personally haven't been as aggressively courted by UND as in the past. Now, if somebody believes that UND has been blacklisted by certain high schools in the metro, that would be an interesting conversation, ESPECIALLY if it's because UND isn't selling hard enough. And ALL of this assumes that traditional recruiting methods are still even relevant. I suspect that today's 15-18 year olds are being marketed to and reached in ways that you and I cannot even fathom. (For me, it was the endless barrage of physical mailings from schools all over the midwest beginning in 9th or 10th grade.)- 485 replies

Here we go again with the marketing discussion with no context. Are you a Twin Cities parent of a school-age and college-bound student, or are you yourself a young adult? How do you interact with UND and NDSU ads? Drive-by? TV? Radio? Are you an alum or fan of either or both? I am going to go out on a limb here. UND and NDSU are known quantities in the Twin Cities. Students looking to go to a relatively cheap, public, mid-size who want to get 'a few hours away from the nest' will always consider both, and TC children of ND alums/natives will always be in the mix. I have no doubt that UND and NDSU get their due in HS counseling and college advising offices. I suspect that TV and billboard ads have very little effect on the target demographic. Football fan? NDSU is for you. Five rings in six years will do that. Hockey fan? UND all the way baby. Want the bigger city with better travel options (i.e., multiple airlines, two interstate highways), more restaurants, better shopping? Boom, it's Fargo. Interested in medicine, aviation, petroleum engineering? UND. Do we honestly believe that one school is a better strategic marketer than the other, or that there's that much of a return on the advertising investment? Hell, the schools (and towns) freaking sell themselves. What we has adults, alumni, and fans may perceive vis-a-vis marketing is almost meaningless. Put yourself in the shoes of a HS junior in the Twin Cities and go from there.- 485 replies

How does the sweet feeling compare to the guilt of knowing they shouldn't have even been on the ice for the second OT because it was over in the first? -
If building a brand is their goal, then being on TV a lot during April and May will do very nicely. They just need some recognizable players; at the moment their roster doesn't exactly scream out to casual fans. Which makes their success all the more impressive.

No. All of the savings went toward mascot consultants, snow removal, and fancy bond paper for Kennedy to send resumes to headhunters.

Kennedy Bridge is 1/2 done. Regardless of where they cross, they also rumble all the way up and down Washington, so that contributes to the overall problem.
