That's kinda the point. Mankato without FB would be great. If the Summit adds Hockey and Mankato, it would have the numbers in other sports so it wouldn't HAVE to take the Utah schools in order to survive. The league would be stable.
-
Would another benefit be that it could motivate Mankato to finally move up for all sports? They are the best fit for the league, and they are perfect for the footprint. They also happen to have a great hockey program. I seriously wonder if SCSU will be able to continue sponsoring hockey at a high level given the institutional issues they have.

Those guys are nuts. They rip fcs fb constantly then they wonder why attendance is down.
-
I think so. Perhaps a result of the dorm renovations? People might actually like the dorms?
-
On they flip side, could this make hockey more feasible in regard to title ix?

SCHOOLS WITHOUT HOCKEY DON'T CARE ABOUT HYPOTHETICAL SUMMIT HOCKEY

Their current AD was hired shortly after the conference was announced. I'm convinced he's the reason for Miami's downfall.

In regard to seasonal tailgating spots, haven't they been selling them out? UND only gets a specified quantity of seasonal tailgating spots, so it would make sense to get as many different tailgating groups in there as possible. -

Or he wanted to give the new coaches a chance.

Is there a credible source? Honestly, I trust random message board people over him.

Didn't Hauck coach for Montana in the National Championship while in the last year of his contract? Coaches leave all the time mid contract, and players also transfer all the time. In todays world with the tranfer portal the way it is, a contract should never be extended simply because a coach has only two years left on his contract. Doesn't help anyone and it doesn't mean to a recruit that the coach will still actually be there by the time said recruit gets to college.

I think it makes sense to stay in Canada - international students can't sign NIL deals so if we get a good one it will be less likely that they're poached. There's got to be some overlooked talent in the Winnipeg area and in that case our location would actually help us for once.

Matt Brown article says that the Utah schools are in play for the Summit League. Not my first choices, but they have been doing well athletically. Fenton has, for a while now, been mentioning that he has been excited about the future prospects for Summit Soccer. Then Delaware was added. So the Utah thing adds up, because Utah Valley is building a new $20 million dollar soccer stadium. If the WAC is unstable, perhaps the Summit Would be able to grab Air Force soccer as well. Air Force currently plays soccer in the WAC. Travel would be bad for Utah Valley, but Utah Tech and Southern Utah wouldn't be the worst road trip as everyone can fly fairly cheaply in and out of Vegas. I kind of hope the SL league finds an alternative to this that's more regional. https://www.uvu.edu/news/2022/10/2022_10_25_uccu_stadium.html https://www.extrapointsmb.com/p/conference-realignment-wac-defections-coming?utm_source=www.extrapointsmb.com&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=conference-realignment-are-more-wac-defections-coming

Their proposal/plan details and drawings should also be available through FOIA request, now that it has been awarded. Good thing I subscribe to the Herald because I'm sure they're on top of this.

Looks like the Ray Dicks development may actually happen... https://solutions-selectsite-documents.s3.amazonaws.com/Sourcingevent/1195561-event.pdf?X-Amz-Algorithm=AWS4-HMAC-SHA256&X-Amz-Date=20240501T145310Z&X-Amz-SignedHeaders=host&X-Amz-Expires=3600&X-Amz-Credential=AKIAJ5HNJE5DFBZ5ONSA%2F20240501%2Fus-east-1%2Fs3%2Faws4_request&X-Amz-Signature=c71f4f6db9362c2575cee604b9d6816e4dbd0be3090c649713eac337fdc392ca

That's old news. We know that already. Whether or not it happens, these things take time. They're apparently discussing the regional format again even though a change there had little support in the past...
-
I highly doubt hockey membership changes significantly.
-
My dream: drop SCSU and Miami for UST and Mankato (not sure about FB, but probably best if Mankato dropped it).
-
Essentially. I don't think it's necessary for hockey operations to change in a meaninful way in order for the SL to add hockey. In being affiliated with the SL, the hockey schools would benefit by having more input at the NCAA governance level. They would also save overhead expenses and have more support at the conference office, as the SL has much more staff. The SL would benefit because it would help to stabilize the league, as it would be another Men's team sport to satisfy the NCAA's membership requirements for all sports conferences. Could also potentially help the league retain UST, UNO, or Denver, in the event another conference comes calling. Would also help to improve the leagues image.
-
Zero reason they couldn't all be affiliates. Hockey could theoretically operate with separate books for the most part.
-
Given that the NCHC talks are happening at the same time as the Midco/CCHA negotiations, I'm guessing all the cards are on the table. Just a guess, but Midco will probably know what's happening with UST/CCHA and Summit League hockey before a Midco/CCHA deal is signed. The NCHC hockey schools could still put a cubbosh on the idea of Summit League hockey, as they did last summer.

This is from a national media guy who covers our niche (not a hockey guy). I messaged him about the Summit Hockey tweet:
