  1. With the Memorial Stadium development news, Chaves will undoubtedly have a press conference. Any guesses on if this is what he was referring to in the email, or will he have other announcements to make? Chaves: So how do we support our current 17 athletic programs moving forward as begin this decade? I believe it starts with identifying a vision for where all of our athletic programs are housed on a daily basis for the next decade and beyond. We hope to unveil this vision out to you all soon with the idea that we want to support comprehensive competitiveness and excellence across the board for our athletic enterprise.
  2. Which is a waste of two seats x how many? Sure. But when we wonder why NDSU is dominating UND in nearly all sports, the answer is and will be money. And what do ya know, they are allowing 50% capacity at their games this spring... Just saying, if we are actually going to social distance etc and not just do general admission like they are at most places with limited attendance, we could at least be a little bit smarter about it. But this isn't just a one time thing either, look at UND cancelling its FBS game this fall while NDSU made a game with UCA work. Look at home scheduling for most sports. Look at facilities. The AD at UND is underperforming, which makes me believe they don't care. If the answer is money, than why are we not allowing 50% attendance and opening up the suites like the the ND guidelines allow?
  3. Does UND even care? Why do they have zero seating areas with 4 seat groupings? Tons of families go in sets of 4 and total attendance could rise significantly while maintaining their social distancing guidelines. https://www.ticketmaster.com/university-of-north-dakota-mens-hockey-grand-forks-north-dakota-02-12-2021/event/06005997F16014EA Also, I'm pretty sure the Ralph didn't "give" UND the minimum profit distribution of 500k for the last fiscal year, so if they are that starved for cash, they can stop with 3k max attendance virtue signaling.
  4. Anyone hearing the audio lagging/skipping?
  5. Yeah there's a bunch of it all along university in the UND master plan (both by the bridge to nowhere parking lot and west of wilki). https://campus.und.edu/facilities-management/_files/docs/2018-master-plan.pdf Interestingly, the UND athletics master plan doesn't show the buildings https://campus.und.edu/facilities-management/_files/docs/und-athletics-masterplan-0823.pdf
  6. Curious to see the details of how athletics will utilize the new building at the memorial union site, and how it will affect HPCII plans. https://campus.und.edu/facilities-management/_files/docs/und-athletics-masterplan-0823.pdf
  7. You are correct. The current master plan shows that the whole thing will be torn down. I must have been thinking of an older plan that showed only the lecture bowls as being torn down. Love the master plan by the way, and the link is below in case someone hasn't seen it. The only thing that bothers me is I can't understand why they built the medical school so far from campus. https://campus.und.edu/facilities-management/_files/docs/2018-master-plan.pdf
  8. Is there a chance our punting has been bad because the kickers don't have a ton of time to get the kick off? Who has the advanced stats to figure out that theory????
  9. Are they demoing the whole thing or just the lecture bowls?
  10. Glad to see they got something done over there. Kinda wish they woulda stuck with the plan in the original rendering for the main study area though.
  11. You make a good point, but as a whole, isn't most of this new construction residential or retail? The 50M Epic project is nearly all residential, with maybe some street level retail. The 25M Memorial Stadium project is all residential except for UND occupying the entire street level space. Lyons Garage 27M plan is a mix of retail, office, and residential. St. Johns 7M plan is all residential except for street level retail. It's not like anyone is building a huge office tower or something. If anything, I assume downtown could probably use some modern office space, and the influx of residents will help all sectors of the downtown economy. I think the new projects will help to make downtown a more desirable and vibrant area, it they will help to make existing office space more desirable.
  12. Kinda disagree with the scholarships part. A good kicker is just as valuable, if not more so, than almost any scholarship position player. They directly affect the outcome of games, and if it takes 3 schollarships to get a quality kicker, so be it. Kickers always seem to be undervalued. Ask the Vikings if a high round draft pick would be worth it for a pro bowl kicker.
  13. Congrats! What's a 2L job? Like an internship before your last year of law school?
  14. 100% agree.
  15. This, with "almost" being the key word. Not a fan of Chaves so far and he comes off as having too much of a lackadaisical, go with the flow, approach to being an AD (based on his und/soccer podcast). UND Womens teams continuously underperforming - Chaves: Oh garsh! Well the Summit is a strong conference and we're just getting aclimated... better luck next year... nothing we can do differently... external factors are the problem..
  16. Kinda outside the box, but is St. Thomas practicing? If so, a closed door scrimmage could be of mutual benefit.
  17. I think Otis gets most of the carries by the of the season (if its a full season).
  18. Alrighty... game was down for me for part of the game tonight on both PC and ROKU. Would not load.
  19. Really happy for Panoam! Great game.
  20. I'm sure he is, but he wasn't exactly lighting it up this year either, and in his one game healthy he scored a whopping 9 points. Not sure why he left, but it's not like he was too good to play here.
  21. P5 getting their own division certainly helps to justify the WAC's FBS comments, as well as UCA's AD's comments... would also justify Chaves need to write the letter. Maybe MVFC will start to talk about FBS as well. Chaves: "So you may be wondering what this all could mean for us at UND. Well, in my humble opinion - because of your amazing support, our flagship status and the conferences that we are affiliated with today – I believe we are positioned very well. I still believe in the notion that collegiate athletics at its core first and foremost is a regionally based entity. Now that we are back playing regional rivals in the same conference on a consistent basis no matter what the next reorganization may look like and as long as our current conferences stay strong, we should be in great shape."
  22. Because with St. Thomas, the Summit will finally have a presence in the Twin Cities. This will provide the league with more exposure in one of their most important recruiting territories for both athletes and normal students. St. Paul/Minneapolis probably has more alumni from summit schools than any other city in the the country as well. It's also a huge media market, and it's actually closer than Greely to more of the Summit league schools. It's also closer than Greeley to another large airport. UNC/Greeley wouldn't really move the needle in any of these areas, and from what I've read, St. Thomas seems to have been DU's preference as well. Does anyone in Denver care about UNC?
  23. You know he was injured, right?
  24. Interesting move by him, given his injury and production so far this year... what type of program will pick him up on scholly? I was also under the impression that his lack of playing time was due to his injury, though. Hopefully this will be like the guy at UMKC who ended up staying with the team.
  25. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I bolded the parts I thought were important, and I also underlined the parts that I thought could be most important. The key question that I have is, what does he mean in his usage of the words "support", "housed", and "we" in this paragraph: "So how do we support our current 17 athletic programs moving forward as begin this decade? I believe it starts with identifying a vision for where all of our athletic programs are housed on a daily basis for the next decade and beyond. We hope to unveil this vision out to you all soon with the idea that we want to support comprehensive competitiveness and excellence across the board for our athletic enterprise." To me, it kind of seems like he is saying that UND's conference affiliation should remain the same for a long time "no matter what the next reorganization looks like". Given that, I don't think UND is changing conferences, because he next asks "So how do we support our programs moving forward"? He then says that it starts with a vision for where the programs are housed. And then he says that "we" hope to announce the vision soon. The key word "vision" makes me think his message is in regard to fundraising, since conference affiliation usually isn't discussed until changes are set in stone. Housing could refer to conference membership, but I think it could be in regard to athletic facilities, since he mentions support at UND and specific groups that UND works with within the community. Some of the groups are working together to redevelop Memorial Stadium, and the new building will be "housing" some amount of UND Athletics operations (UND Athletics will occupy the entire ground level floor). And lastly, who is the "we" that will be announcing the vision? Is it UND and other schools, just Bill and the UND athletic department, or is it UND Athletics and a group of fundraisers or partners? I think this announcement will be in regard to the new building at the Memorial Union site, as I don't think there has been an official announcement yet, and the athletics master plan "vision" will be updated to account for some athletic department operations moving over to that new building, which in-turn, reduces the necessary size, scope, and cost of HPC phase II.
