You referring to a game when Muss was still coach and we had a different OC? I asked what he should say without lying, but perhaps I should have said without lying OR misleading, because this hypothetical recruit just transferred after realizing he was mislead by coach. If you were referring to last years game, UND had more rushing yards than passing yards (282 and 254, respectively).
-
What could he have told good receivers without lying? "Come to UND and you can run block all game, except for third and long when you can try to get open in double coverage"

I think I agree with Bison06. Media markets for most G5 teams are overrated, IMO. Boise does fine with about the 100th ranked media market, and fargo isn't far behind. Fan base and following is also important. Boise State football will retain its perks in new Mountain West TV contract.

Not just safety concerns, but UND needs phase 2 to create room in the hyslop for the STEM renovation. This WILL get built - hopefully sooner rather than later.

A desire to not play a non conf game at a baseball stadium during what should be our bye week. And it's wishful thinking to have a home game vs. an Ivy League team. Dartmouth is going to have to scramble to find a team to play instead of Jacksonville so I looked at our schedule.
-
Kennedy sure was a successful president - that's a ton of new construction. Hopefully the transition to the new president will help with donations for the business school and phase two. The new guy seems much more personable and likable, and maybe those who didn't like Kennedy will be more open to giving. The new business building is badly needed when it comes to attracting students/enrollment. Excited to see campus once everything is wrapped up in a few years.

Now the Jacksonville dropped their program, I would like to see UND back out of their h/h with Portland State and work on a deal with Dartmouth. I know... unlikely, but the return game is 5 years out from next years game, and our bye week for next year is after only the second game of the season. UND at Portland State – October 24, 2020 PSU at North Dakota – September 6, 2025 Jacksonville was scheduled to play at Dartmouth next year on Sept 19th. UND schedules https://fbschedules.com/ncaa/north-dakota/ Dartmouth schedules https://fbschedules.com/ncaa/dartmouth/ Not sure what the buyout is, but it would be nice to be able to move the buy week back and put a new/better program on the schedule. It looks like a home game vs Dartmouth still wouldn't be until 2025, though. This has like 0.000000000001 percent chance of happening, but thought I'd throw it out there anyway. 50% chance Portland State buys out their return trip for an FBS game. Hope the buyout number is huge.

Negative in what way? That place was always pretty busy from what I remember.

Yeah, I think the possibly provides an opportunity for the different philosophies to be discussed. It is the off season, after all. I'd group Cedric Case in with any other transfer who isn't a grad transfer. 50% chance they don't transfer again and 50% chance they actually see the field (non scientific numbers, obviously). That equates to a 25% chance that a transfer actually helps the program. At the same time, transfers can't help with moral for depth players, or really anyone who came to UND as a freshman. They can also often be head cases, have off field issues, problems with coaches, or just generally aren't that good. I'd say pass unless a guy is clearly good enough to start, or the position group clearly has no depth (DT the past few seasons, kicker/punter last off season, maybe a QB this year?). Grad transfers are a different category altogether. These are guys that have shown they can buy in and stick with a program for 4 years, are at minimum decent students, and often time they are just looking for more playing time before they finish out their football careers. They will also stick around and can provide leadership if they don't see the field. Non grad transfers who don't see the field are much more likely to bolt, IMO, they already would have done it once. That said, each potential transfer should be evaluated on a case by case basis. Also, if a guy like Cedric Case came in and actually improved the football team, that would help with recruiting rather than hurt it. A better team>perceived pushover coaches.

That was fast. He's gotta like freunds offense if he liked Stitt.

Bubba will be back. Und lost this game on both sides of the line. Excited to see what Tommy can do. Was hoping they would try him for the last series. The linemen will be mutch improved once they have a chance to lose even more weight this summer.

According to the budget submitted to the NCAA, the Alerus rental fee is 32k Other gameday expenses brought the total up to about 50k. This is from what I found to be relavent in the REA usage agreement. I think the answer is no, but not certain. "Single game tickets for UND football are governed by an existing contract with the Alerus Center, but the ticket revenue derived from UND football is included in the calculation of the ticket revenue in this Agreement. Ticket revenue does not include affiliated conference and/ or NCAA playoff games as those events are governed by affiliated conference and/ or NCAA regulations, which are incorporated herein by reference. All ticket revenue, as defined above, will be pooled into the UND / REA joint ticketing pool, excepting those revenues in the previous sentence."

We lost a home playoff game over a few thousand dollars. If UND expects to be in the playoffs every year, why isn't it in the football budget to begin with? The bid UND placed would basically allow UND to at least break even. With a 4 million dollar budget, I think it would be wise to spend a few thousand on a home game, because it would help to build hype around town and give the team a better chance to win. And we only have 5 per year as it is! I think the criticism is completely fair here. Even if UND bid at like 110K, most of the money would be recovered by ticket sales anyway.
-
I just don't get it. Football has a budget in excess of 4 MILLION dollars, yet we lost a home game over, what, about 20k, if not less? This is beyond stupid and it's indefensible.

Their top receiver is back 6'4" - was out for some of their losses. UND might actually have the special teams advantage. They have two kickers and both don't seem to be very good. If I remember right, UND has better kick return numbers and kick return defense, and I think they have two punts blocked, and I think we also have a better net punting average. I think I read their net punt average was like 32 something and ours was 38 something. We also have a better punt return average. Their kickers do not have range or accuracy, it seems. knock on wood

The crazy thing is that this the the bid isn't even the only factor in determining the host location. The hosting manual has a bunch of other factors listed as well.
-
Many people have said the host decision is based 100% on the highest bid, me included. This appears to be incorrect, which makes the decision for Nichols to hose look even worse. See criteria no. 3. (from the ncaa host operation manual https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/championships/sports/football/d1/2019-20D1MFB_PrelimRndHostOpsManual.pdf) CRITERIA – PRELIMINARY ROUND SITE SELECTION Regarding first-round, second-round, quarterfinal and semifinal sites, in addition to the criteria listed in Bylaw 31.1.3.2.1, the NCAA Division I Football Championship Committee shall consider the following additional criteria when selecting playoff sites: 1. Prospective host institutions must submit the following minimum financial guarantees, which shall be 75 percent of the estimated net receipts as submitted on the proposed budget: First round—$30,000 Second round—$40,000 Quarterfinals—$50,000 Semifinals—$60,000 2. If the minimum financial guarantees are met, the committee will award the playoff sites to the top eight seeded teams. 3. When determining host institutions for playoff games when both teams are unseeded, criteria shall apply as follows: (1) quality of facility, (2) revenue potential plus estimated net receipts, (3) attendance history and potential, (4) team’s performance (e.g., conference place finish, head-to-head results and number of Division I opponents), and (5) student-athlete well-being (e.g., travel, missed class time).

Best thing about this season, IMO, has been Freunds success in his first season at OC. The offense has gotten better and better, and the guys that are playing were recruited for a different style of offense. I really love his enthusiasm, and his football IQ. Really hope this staff can become more successful so that Freund can step in for Bubba when he retires. Freund just seems to have "it", and I think he could be a good coach here that could stick around. Props to Faison (I'd guess) for not canning him when Muss and his assistants were fired.
-
Team looks better than last year IMO.
-
Yeah I was gonna mention this. Not the best scheduling on UND's part with two big away games that fans will plan for ahead of time. I'm headed to the hockey game Friday, which would make a trip up to GF on Saturday difficult. I doubt it affected the selection committee's decision, as it's based on how much teams bid, not attendance. Could have factored in to how much UND wanted to bid though.
-
This makes sense, but I'd hope that either way he would end up playing in the playoffs, either this year or next. I'd rather have him for one playoff game this year, and use him all next season and in the playoffs next season as well.

Can't complain about our ranking after getting steamrolled by ISU.... again....

You think the mvfc is that much better than the big sky? This is literally all he said about UNI "I have seen UNI they have athletes but aren’t any better than teams we have seen this year. " What does that have to do UND's season next year and why are you so easily offended?
