This is part of an email response from Heather Weems prior to the NCHC's annual meeting last spring:
-
With all due respect, the post you responded to didn't say that, hense the confusion. Looking back, it seems that most of the discussion was questioning CBSSN's commitment to the league given the fact that they have reduced the number of games they broadcast annually. Weather or not CBSSN would be willing to sign a new contract for simlar terms, it's logical that the league would explore their options, no? The NCHC.TV contract with Sidearm doesn't expire until after 2026-27 season, but the CBSSN contract expired at the end of this season without any announcment regarding an extension. That makes sense though given the future rights for the MWC and PAC are still up in the air, imo. The move to conference sites for the conference tournament is potentially another issue, so I don't think it's accurate to say that it's a fact the NCHC will be with CBSSN next year.

Thanks for posting.

Care to elaborate?

Schmaltz did an interview with him recently and it was great. He does a great job with his guests and interviews, imo. A lot of people may not like his schtick, but I think he does a good enough job of not letting that bleed into interviews with his guests - his Chyzik interview is a great example of that. I haven't seen this one yet, but I'm somewhat suprised that he did it with Gucci rather than with Guage on his other pod. Not everyone likes his humor, but he doesn't take it too seriously so I don't see why anyone should be offended by it. I find it to be a nice change of pace compared to everything else that's out there. He's talented though, no doubt about that imo.

"exposure" How much? ESPN doesn't release viewership data for ESPN+ The NCHC would be lucky to get a couple games on ESPNU. Pretty sure ESPN U is now in less homes than CBSSN anyway.
-
ESPN lowballs every small conference, they try to restrict local tv rights even if they aren't televising their games, and they usually make the schools produce the games themselves. The last company I want UND to work with is ESPN. I'd be suprised if ESPN was willing to pay the NCHC what UND, alone, is getting from the current NCHC.TV revenue cut.

Kinda doubt they would be forced.

This is somewhat relevent. Maryville has been considering building a 3k seat e sports arena of some sort and they cancelled their plans. They could or maybe are working to incorporate hockey into a new development plan? https://www.westnewsmagazine.com/news/maryville-withdraws-redevelopment-plans-for-woods-mill-center/article_0d96b16a-4042-11ee-a460-8fcdf80a4980.html UMKC should really look up the road to Omaha and look at what hockey has done for Omaha. Like UMKC IS, Omaha would be a complete afterthought in that city if they tried to focus on basketball. UMKC could be THE team for Kansas City. The major cities directly to the North, West, and East all have hugely popular hockey teams (UNO, Blues, Avs/DU).

Awesome! Link? My guess: TSU, both Alaskas. Simon Fraser would make a ton of sense as well.
-
Hockey makes a lot of sense for D2 schools because the can capitalize on the visibility of having a D1 program without the need to dump millions more, annually, into funding non rev sports at the D1 level.

Grand Sky. But I cant for the life of me remember where I saw it... could have just been a concept but I dont think it was. Edit: It was probably related to this https://www.nwo.usace.army.mil/Media/Public-Notices/Article/4114258/nwo-2015-00887-bis/ Scroll down and click "related story"

I saw some impressive renderings recently for tons of new construction to the West of the existing buildings, but I don't recall where I found them. Does anyone know if the county or air force have master plans or permits that are publicly available anywhere?

I don't think hockey is on the table for the Summit right now, at all. The Summit doesn't need additional team sports anymore, because the NCAA changed the rules which required a conference to sponsor a minimum quantity of team sports. The hockey schools already voted this down by a large margin the first time it was brought up, we haven't heard any rumors since, and I highly doubt the addition of ASU makes Summit hockey any more likely. Per Matt Brown, the Summit is currently targeting Utah Valley, and they would potentially offer Utah Tech (Dixie State) and SUU if that helps them secure Utah Valley. TSU doesn't have the money to pay for Summit League travel, let alone NCHC hockey. Lindenwood would be a good fit for the SL, but their hockey program isn't close to being "there" yet - the CCHA would be a great fit and it would be a conference that would enable the program to grow... they would be buried forever in the NCHC, even deeper than Miami is, and they have a decent history/tradition and high end facilities, of their own.

Guessing this person saw CCHA people. I assume every league is in town for the frozen four.

This seems good. What caused the massive increase? https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/GRAN238LFN Feb 2025: 58,337 Jan 2025: 57,852 Dec 2024: 55,611 Nov 2024: 55,990 Oct 2024: 55,744

Pretty sure they are playing at least one at bridgestone in addition to that.

I'll never understand why UND or whoever technically owns the rights doesnt do this aleady.

I really liked Hoskin https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/647938/trevor-hoskin

Nowhere. They allocate some back to UND and some to the maint/improvement fund, beyond that, they save/invest it. Unrestricted funds.
-
The REA had/has enough money for that easy, and they could have donated it to the 1883 collective. It would have been well worth it, and justifiable, because it's an investment in their own product.
-
At the end of the day, UND will likely need to opt in to the house settlement and reorganize it's marketing/fundraising efforts so they aren't so fragmentized between the Champions Club, the Athletic Department, the 1883 collective, and the REA (which UND supposedly gains control of in 2030).
