Travis's update over there just made it sound like WMU offered and the kid was rethinking his commitment. Of course, after they attacked him for even hinting a kid would choose WMU over NDSU he said was going to stop posting NDSU updates to their board. So there's likely been an update we're not aware of.

My favorite quote was the NIU was the only good team in the conference. They conveniently forget that Kent State would also have been in a BCS bowl had they beat NIU in the MAC title game. One of the things that boggles my mind about Bison fans is how they build up a perception and refuse to change it regardless of changing circumstances. Ex: "The MAC sucks, we beat their champion 3 years ago" or "Montana State and the Big Sky Conference as a whole are terrible. We beat Montana State 3 years ago and got screwed out of a win over EWU" or "We're 2-1 against Minnesota. They'll never have as good a program as us"

If we don't make the playoffs during his time here I would consider that a failure. Not on his part necessarily but for the program as a whole. I would think multilple playoff appearances or a Big Sky title would make that recruiting class a success. Hopefully four years from now we're talking about the great foundation those guys have laid for the future of UND Football.

There is a D-II. The division just does not sponsor a hockey championship. The schools who play D-III hockey are D-III in all of their sports. Schools like UMD, St Cloud, and formerly UND and UNO are allowed to "play up" a division in one sport while remaining D-II in all other sports. I believe this is also allowed for lacrosse but I could be mistaken. This exemption is not allowed for basketball so the subdivisions were created to allow schools to compete in D-I in basketball, compete in D-I in the olympic sports, and continue to play football without the financial burden of 85 football scholarships. Georgetown is a great example of this.

FCS. Football Championship SUBDIVISION. It's right there in the name. We are a D1 school who plays football in the Football Championship Subdivision of D1. Seems to me like you're the only one who is confused.

POLL: Should UND-NDSU Resume the Football Series?
WeAreNorthDakota replied to ShilohSioux's topic in Football
Though I certainly don't guarantee that UND will win a national title, I have not doubt that we'll be able to be a year in, year out contender. Our move to D1 was a commitment to football in itself and now that we're out of the transition I believe we'll see a steady improvement. We just happened to follow a few years behind our biggest rival who set the bar impossibly high. Not only did we not match NDSU's immediate success, we were an absolute trainwreck of an athletic department outside of hockey. And though we are certainly not to the point many fans wish we were, there are very good things going on with our athletic teams that lead me to believe we will consistantly at or near the top of the Big Sky in all of the major sports once we get settled in. -

Can we please stop with the demeaning of our football division. Who cares what it is called "in name"? The FCS is 100+ peer institutions fighting for a championship just like NCAA Division 1 hockey. All the people who are trying to cut down NDSU's accomplishment by sayings it's not at the highest level of competition are simultaneously cutting away at our own program's history. Every time you say that it doesn't matter it erodes the meaning of some of the best accomplishments in UND history, our football national title and our women's basketball titles are some of the crowning moments of the entire history of athletics at UND. OUR FANBASE IS DEMEANING OUR OWN ATHLETES AND THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS! PLEASE STOP! -
I really hope we don't rush Wall back. I'd like to not see her hobbled like she was against NDSU. We've been very solid inside even with her out so we have the luxury of waiting to make sure she's healthy. If she comes back at full strength we're going to be very dangerous come tournament time.

Big Sky TV does have an on demand feature. Not sure if every game is available but you should be able to go back and watch games.

Hot dogs, popcorn, pop, and beer I believe

Also, it's not like our former Great West foes presented very hostile environments. Obviously we've had losses at Kansas and Kansas State and at other higher level programs but the futility we've shown on the road at places like Chicago State and Houston Baptist is baffling.

http://www.undsports...TCLID=205847868 Troy Huff's cousin. Sounds like she's redshirting at UW this year so after she sits out for 2 semesters she'll have 3.5 years of eligibility left.

POLL: Should UND-NDSU Resume the Football Series?
WeAreNorthDakota replied to ShilohSioux's topic in Football
This Western Carolina business is just one more reason to get the game scheduled on a regular basis, whether it be every year or every other. GT is now in the position of having to find another game with only 9 months notice. Having a regularly scheduled agreement would significantly reduce the risk of this happening. Now that I think about it, I hope they can't find a D1 game and Taylor calls Faison once he's desparate and Faison tells him to shove it so they're stuck with a D2. -
Football is the only D1 sport where there is a distinction. A player transferring from Wisconsin for football would be eligible to play right away because of the drop down from FBS to FCS. In basketball we're all under one roof so if she starts classes at UND this week she'll be eligible come conference time next year.

That would work nicely with the 2015/2017 contract that was rumored a while back. I personally would love to add that game regardless of the situation with Montana. We're going to be a very young team next year and a long shot for the playoffs anyway. Why not run them through a gauntlet of a schedule and give them some big time experience. Plus, over the first 5 weeks of the season they wouldn't have to leave North Dakota. That limits the wear and tear a lot more than if there was a flight Chaney or Flagstaff mixed in there. I say go for it. -
Depends on how confident the coaches are in Mollberg and Bartels. Normally I'd like to sign a quarterback every year or 4 out of every 5 years but we're in a very unique situation in that we signed 2 quality guys in the same season and don't have anyone else on the roster remaining. I would much rather see us bring in a transfer than sign another freshman because a freshman who comes in is likely going to be buried on the depth chart for most of his career. Then again, I don't know much about the guys we have offers to and if the coaches think there's a guy too good to not offer, I'm all for it.

Word was we were going to get a home and home with Iowa after we retired the nickname the first time too. Nice work by whoever is doing the scheduling.

Hardin would have to have a MONSTER year next year to have a legit shot at the draft. Guys his size who don't have a strong BCS level track record need to have ELITE speed to be legit draft prospects. I could see him getting a combine invite but unless he runs a 4.4 or faster I wouldn't count on him bring drafted.

There may not be a huge impact on recruiting but there's no doubt that our current players and potential recruits read forums like this. Does anyone remember last fall when the kid who switched to UW at the last minute posted an apology/explanation/thank you or whatever you want to call it on this board? I doubt very much that that was his first visit to the board. He'd likely been reading it since he first committed or possibly earlier. Is it a major factor? No because every school has a message board and every message board has its share of bad apples. But let's not pretend that the things we post here aren't seen by recruits and current student athletes.

So then why not just make it a "Frozen Eight" all on one weekend. You take 2 weeks between the first round best of 3 hosted by the higher seeds then you have 8 fanbases converging on a major market (rotate between Denver, Chicago, Twin Cities, Detroit, Boston, New York, etc.). Using the current Top 16 and assuming all the seeds hold you'd have a tourament that looks like this: First Round - Best of 3 St Cloud at Boston College Yale at New Hampshire Denver at Notre Dame Union at Minnesota Omaha at Miami Cornell at BU Dartmouth at UND Quinnipiac at Western Michigan Frozen Eight Day 1 - An all day college hockey extravaganza in Madison Square Garden or some other major NHL venue. Frozen Eight Day 2 - Two more games and you eliminate the day off for the fans. Frozen Eight Day 3 - Hobey Baker Trophy presentation in the early afternoon with the National Championship game to follow in prime time.

If Phil were to actually coach here I'm sure we'd be seeing a lot more games played in the Ralph. I imagine he'd be nearly as big a draw as men's hockey.
-
It would take a lot more than just a big salary for Phil to coach at the college level. He had very generous travel arrangements with the Lakers his last few years and I doubt he would be willing to put up with connecting flights into non-major markets. And that's not to mention recruiting trips.

Kid's got the look of a very good player and it's certainly against top flight competition. For as much as we clamor for an impact big guy, successful mid and low major programs are built on quality guard play. This is the kind of kid we need to be getting to be a top-tier Big Sky team.
