When I turned my name in they said it was today (Thursday) at 4:00. The only other times I've heard are from on this site. Try that. I can't be there, but my name's in there so hopefully I've got a shot. I'm assuming they're going to post the results, otherwise I don't know how they'll get a hold of me....if I get drawn. Good luck to everyone else involved. Lets bring some burgers and a grill out to the ralph on gamedays and get stuff going that way.

What does that mean? How does one enter themself?

I know its the weekend, but does anybody have any idea about the procedure for the 90 open tickets to be raffled off? I'm interested in throwing my name in...if I still can. Also, what're everyone else's plans who don't get season tix? We should liven up the pre-game "tailgating", if you will, at the Ralph.

Questions from a Gopher fan heading to NoDak!
SiouxTupa replied to FIRE HELMET GUY #26's topic in Men's Hockey
Oh yeah...if you don't want to drink? ...um... The malls are a joke, for the most part, compared to those in the Twin Cities area. There are "mini malls" popping up all over to adequately satisfy your shopping needs. Check out the Ralph tours though, the building is unreal, and filled with all types of Sioux/WCHA memorabelia. We have a Culvers now! Not quite sure about the "fine dining" in GFK, as a college student I don't partake too often...however I do know that: Lola's is a pretty decent Italian place that, for some reason, has been rumored to close for years. Sanders has Salmon that is seriously unbelievable. Kim is a great cook/guy, and a little eccentric about his cooking/attire. He'll be the guy in the tye-dye pants with the "I 'heart' GF" shirt. If you get a chance, and don't mind a (fairly) high bill, I highly recommend it. Listen to the specials too, there are many other entrees that I enjoy. -

Tours of the Ralph (both living and virtual) can be found at: REA Tour Info While there is not a whole lot to do in GF, hockey games bring out the best in this community. Dagwoods is a good place to go, can get crowded before games, but if you're looking for Sioux fans its a good place to start. El Roco hasn't been said yet. Kind of a college and up "dance club" feel to it. If you want to drink and socialize their specials are dec. Buck 50's at DU is always a must on a Friday from 4:30 till game. The Edge and Jonsey's Dugout are now: UPTOWN/DOWNTOWN GF Haven't sampled them yet, but it wouldn't take much to beat the Edge...unless you're the type who likes the "younger" Central High School crowd with the "highest" quality fake IDs. As for the Pepper...Salami Taco Grinder has been a fail safe since I was a wee lad, but Turkey w/ Taco meat is quickly becoming a favorite. -
Why don't you people understand that nobody is criticizing Jordan Schuetzle? Jordan is a great guy and a great Sioux hockey fan; I have no doubts that he would do anything possible to preserve the fairness of the process. The problem, for me anyway, was the representation student fans at the Ralph got on Thursday night. There was no rule against camping out. Plain and simple. No govening body, aside from the police, can prevent students from peacefully gathering in preparation for the most anticipated event of the schoolyear. Because this camping was undesirable for student government, they decided to do something to disband this gathering. I do not agree with their handling of the situation, and I think many others would agree. There was no advantage for those camping out...lottery was, allegedly, in place prior to Thursday. The great thing about UND fans is that we still want to socialize and enjoy the nights prior to watching our favorite hockey team. It is always a fun thing that really builds fan enthousiasm. Staying up ALL NIGHT is something that student govenment and Schuetzle did because of their distaste for the happenings at the Ralph. I stay up that late all the time, as do many students; so that's not a HUGE sacrifice. I'm sure any one of the fans at the Ralph Thursday night would've been glad to help with the situation. We enjoy staying up so late in support of our team. So, you may say that this is the greatest administration, and the greatest handling of the ticket issue, and it may be true, but many students do not see it that way. All I saw of student government on Thursday night was a very negative student senator in a yellow shirt. I appreciate SG's sacrifice of their tickets. Since Jordan is the biggest hockey fan ever, I hope to see him, and other student gov't members in line on gamedays. I'll buy you guys a drink during the game.

I agree with this, and I also agree with 206 Jockey (for once in this post). You do need to know who to point fingers at before you start complaining. I really really hope they open up student season tickets to anyone who wants them. It is just exremely much more convenient for those who want to attend every game. If its not possible I will absolutely be in line at 3:00 daily and 1:00 for the big games to get a first row upper deck seat. I hope what Diggler says is true...that the upper bowl will be rockin. That's my ONLY qualm about being there. The view angle is outstanding, but the atmosphere often lacks. We'll see what happens, but Diggler, I'll help you out.

Ok, yes, I am frustrated. I am, however, involved in the decision making process. Through the great democratic system that allows us to vote for our student leaders. I understand that Jordan is a great guy...that's why I voted for him. What I am upset with, is the representation we got to the city police, and in the "emergency SAC" meeting. The only interaction I got with a student senator, or other, was a guy in a yellow shirt who flipped us all the bird and acted in a very unprofessional manner with Joe, our security officer. Whether or not the process was changed in the middle of the night is, apparently, up to speculation. I, and about 300 others, think that it was. We did everything we could to make sure we knew what was to happen, and in the end, were thrown for a loop. The last thing I'm going to say is that, when you call for a line to form outside a building, how exactly do you intend that to happen? Everyone can't show up at once, it turns into a mad dash as previously stated. If 8:00 is when people are getting stamped, in order to get a good spot in line you have to leave early. Often leaving early entails camping out the night before. Joe, GF city police officer, allowed students onto the sidewalk adjacent to the road near the Betty through an order given by the chief of police. Our yellow shirted friend was clearly upset by this, and acted like a 12 year old kid when confronting Joe. If this camping was unanticipated, then SG underestimated the gusto that UND student fans posess. I'm not upset at the Ralph, UND Athletics, or even that I did not get a ticket. I'm upset at how I, as a student, was represented...rather, misrepresented

This discussion has nothing to do with how much money they charge. Its the way they handled the situation that angers many people. I would be happy to pay much more than that if I had any type of security of the seat. When I graduate I am still (assuming I don't move away) going to get tickets. I just think they put the highest buck above the average student. Students make the team. I pay taxes in this town as well as tuition, so in reality students fork over quite a bit of money to get the "discount" rates on tickets. I also realize that our tuition/taxes/fees and ticket prices are all much lower than many other places, but that can only be used as a cop out answer so many times. So REA and UND are big businesses...make it worth our while to support the team, and in turn you will make more money. -"If you build it they will come" But when you get here you are not guarenteed a ticket, and coming from across the country does not matter. You must stand in line for two days, stand on one leg and keep one eye closed the entire time. Then you can buy your ticket and any I can't do this anymore. I'm just upset. I couldn't do a better job, so I shouldn't harp on others for that. Its selfish to think Im one of the only people who cares that much about the team.
-
I totally, wholeheartedly, agree with that. It's all about the money, and anyone who says it's not should take a hard look at what goes on. And don't tell me we have it much better than some places...that's exactly my point...better comes at a price $ Bring me back to the old ralph and let me tailgate...or even the barn. I just want to watch my *#%@ hockey team.

First, there was not supposed to be a randomization. That came about at approximately 2:30 last night. The original plan was to have people line up and stamp their place in line. The reason they did not do this is because too many people lined up last night and, "it wouldn't be fair to the others who came in the morning". Also, 2 years ago they gave priority to those having bought season tickets the year before. They sent out a letter to them in the summer. All student tickets were GA, and any that weren't sold as a package were handed out the week of the game. The reason they abolished that system was that the Ralph did not want students lining up so early before a game in such high numbers. So you are wrong, get off your soapbox. The REAL fact of the matter is that they should not change the system the night before distribution, and that the whole system needs to be reworked AGAIN. The student government, specifically, dropped the ball on this process, and I guarentee that a vast majority of those who did get tickets will agree. However, I do commend them for giving up their tickets because it was adhering to their "fair" policy.

Wow, been talking to John Kerry lately? It's just a discussion. There is no need to get all uppity. The fact is that the netting will be there whether we like it or not, either we get used to it, or we get other seats. I've been very fortunate to have only one prior game seen through the netting. It's annoying, but you get used to it....which seems to be the consensus opinion. Looking forward to getting tickets this weekend, and to see us beat up on Manitoba in a couple weeks.

Zach Parise!

See, now my post makes sense... I thought maybe Suter would leave, but wasn't sure. I'm a prophet, swear to god. That's why I put UW where I did; about 4th or 5th.
-
Ok, because I'm so impatient this year I'll give my picks. Only a handful of weeks! UND - A different season than we've had in awhile. All defense/goaltending, young great scoring. This should work in our favor. How about we return the favor against Bucky. UM - I'd love to see us put them back in the cellar, but we only get to see them once...and early at that. They'll surprise a lot. Even with a highly unpolished team. UMD - Sandy takes his team (almost) to the top again. This time without Hobey Lessard. CC - Ok, I know they hardly have anyone, but I need a surprise pick. Last year they were young. They have great goalies, and I think they could jump on some teams. Their home ice struggle may just pay off this year, but they'll get injured against UW in the 1st round WCHA, and not make the NCAA tourney. UW - Even without Suter they'll be potent...wait...can't remember if he's gone or not. I think he is...if they have him I'd put them ahead of UMD. Good young team regardles. I hate Robbie Earl. DU - I think they'll be ready for a defense, but once again, they'll have to do it from 4/5th place...if they're lucky. MTU - How about their goons and great scorers learn to play defense? Maybe we give them home ice? I don't think so, but they won't miss it by too much. SCSU - Who do they have again? Even with an empty cabinet they have some good series and/or players who completely surprise (coole). This year...much like last year. MSUM - This team is my sleeper pick Just wait, they'll jump out on UND in their first conference series...What? Oh, right, MANKATO! Yeah, they've got no chance. AA - I feel really bad for Hill and his troops. They worked hard last year. I can't believe I'd say Fatty Fornier would make a difference, but he does/did. Glencross scored a great goal against UMD...slapper from just inside the zone. Good luck, but don't count on seeing Seawolves in the big dance I can't wait!! Bring on Manitoba, drop the puck.

I've looked everywhere possible...so where did you hear this?? Just curious. It's good for him if he did, get some money. I've looked in many places for a blip, or some hint of an article, but nothing. "Inside sources"?

Feels good to be back in SS land... now Genoway will most likely be a third center after playing a good portion of last year as 1st or 2nd center (1st while Parise in WJC). As previously mentioned on this board Murray may try his hand at center, may have played some in BCHL. Also, Stafford could too. That makes 4...Drop the Puck!

"The Scoop" from an unknowing fan (read & comment
SiouxTupa replied to Orange & Maroon Sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
I agree about Mich. I think playing in a horribly unfriendly setting will be against them. All they'll have is Montoya and Tambellini. And they lost to Ohio State in the final of the CCHA. Mich won't have it that day...call me crazy. That's why UNH wins. Against BC, UNH has proven they can beat their conference foes...especially in NH. With BC reeling and having not played in a little while, I'd say UNH gets my nod. (plus I haven't, truthfully, seen UNH play, but I know BC is better than it's playing right now.) We'll see, I'd rather UND play BC in the final anyway, get revenge for BC's revenge in 2001. Denver will beat Miami. I know Connor James is gone, which is huge, but having not seen Miami play I can throw my expert opinion out that they will lose. One thing we're all in agreement: UND wins the west and a good Frozen Four to follow. -

I like Denver against Miami because look at Denver's record against Non-conference opponents: 10-0 I think the home ice (sort of) will help too...even if there are a few CC fans. Also UNH is like 6,8-1 (can't remember which) against BC in recent games in NH so don't discount them. BC is reeling right now. -
I didn't think it would happen, but UNH actually is my pick from the East. They will get through Mich with help from Manchester ice. Then they will show why they have the record they do against BC in New Hampshire and take that game too by about 4-3. Maine will get through Bucky and Harvard without too much of a problem. Wisc will be tough, but I think Maine is a better team overall. Better everything. Once UNH plays Maine, the goal scoring will become a must, and Maine won't have it. 3-1 UNH. UNH thinks it's ready for redemption on the Gophers... I don't 5-2 UND in the Final. #8 It's the most wonderful time of the year!

One funnything was that a few UMD fans that were walking along side us said that they would be cheering us on. They said they weren't normally Sioux fans, but some gopher fans had jeered them and acted super arrogant towards them. I know it could've been sour grapes, but I was still surprised. Everyone I sat around was nice, kind of loud. Some dude kept talking about "Stupid Australians" so I thought that was kind of funny. People were more relaxed, and it was different to see alcoholic beverages in the section (not allowed at the student section in the Ralph). That may have "boosted the confidence", so to speak, of the fans.

I loved the entire weekend. Third row from the glass at center ice behind the players (mostly AA's players/3times anyway) bench. What a fun weekend of hockey, great goals, great saves, crappy reffing (at times). I even heard UAA's assistant coach specifically call out Mike Prpich's number before the Mauling that took place. He shouted "number 19, number 19" they took a quick time out, and after the next faceoff featuring Prpich's line they were all over him. I didn't see exactly what Mikey did, but man can he get into opponent's skins like no other. I've never seen (in person straight from his mouth) a coach call out a number like that. NOT VERY CLASSY IF YOU ASK ME. But I laughed at the whole thing and so did Prpich. Best goals of the tourney had to be Bochenski's undressing of the Gopher defender shorthanded (slight bias ) tied with Curtis Glencross' slapper from inside the zone against UMD. I LOVE those goals, and it followed a dynomite save by Reiter. It was one of my most memorable moments as a hockey fan, but only because I've never been that close to the action for that many games in a weekend. My mind was in overload by the end.

I agree...give the edge in experience to the gophers, but UND is the more talented team. If they string together the two wins necessary I think they will beat UM. That's assuming UM makes it past Duluth, who I'm sure are frothing at the mouth at the chance for redemption. I was at the games this weekend, and I have to say (though slightly disappointed at the outcome) what a great game. However sloppy defensively, there were powerplay goals, a shorthanded undressing, great saves, great shots, good calls, bad calls...it was fun to be a part of the event. The rematch will be similar, but without the cushy home ice advantage for UM. I actually want UND to be the team to unseat UM and earn that 8th banner. I think it's necessary. "To be the best, you have to beat the best" I heard that somewhere.

That was the best piece of journalism I've ever been treated to. Pulitzer!? Seriously, I laughed, I cried, I marvelled at the informative, yet humorous, nature of the writing. PCM you truly have a gift. I say, from now on, only post made-up coaches shows! Delirium has officially set in and overwhelmed my insomnia.
