My other collection is fossilized Shark's Teeth, also huge. I own a big, friendly, beautiful & funny Moluccan Cockatoo, and have a terrific girfriend. My daughter lives in Whitefish, Montana. Orange & Maroon Sioux's Achievements

  1. I am A Sioux fan (through good friends in Arthur, ND) , went to Virginia Tech, and live in Richmond, VA. Us & U of Va are 1-A. There are about6 or so 1-AA schools here, but few if any (a couple of historically black schools I believe) Div 2 here. All I have to say is that the financial jump to 1-A is enormous. I can't tell you off hand what our atheletic budget is, but it is probably 10 times what yours is. Then again, we won the ACC football Championship, our Coach, Frank Beamer (18 years & an Alum) was Sports Illustrated's "Coach of the year". We are ranked #9 & play #3 Auburn in the BCS Sugar Boel for which we get 12 million os so.....gross. Take away travel expenses (1-2 mil), split w/ conference & we get much less. The point is , it took us years (and Michael Vick!!!!!) to get to this. Our stadium seats 68,000 (73,000 next year) and is sold out for every game. Our fans travel & support is legendary.....especially to Bowl people. We have about 23,00o students. The point is, I really can't see where ND has the base to do these things. Hockey? You are the greatest; we don't even play except at a club level which is very low key. It seems like you are in a good position. 1-A in your best sport, and at a level where you are a power in football. I don't know about basketball or others, but pretty much know these are your two "biggies". It is a MONSTER jump to 1-A, and if you wind up with 6-5 or 4-7 seasons I don't know if your fan suppost will hang in there. Boise State is all the rage this year, but I'll promise you our 5th in the nation defense would enable us to beat them like a rented mule if we played. I don't know how many Florida players would want to go there, and ANY good 1-A team has some Florida players because they are THE best atheletes. Period. I wish you luck in your decision making, but D2 to D1 is way too much for my 2nd favorite team/school to swallow, in my humble opinion.
  2. Well, here ya go: The picks from the "Southernmost Sioux" fan who went t Virginia Tech that only has club Hockey. In the dark? Yes. In the know? Read on.... UND over HC is a no-brainer. But what you may NOT know is that no small roman catholic team will EVER beat the Sioux. D over Miami: It's a home game. Minn over notre lame..Reason? See above re UND-HC. M-D over MSu. Anybody that plays us tough beats these weenies. Maine over Harvard. Bears are fierce! Badgers over osu: They are chapped at being 3rd seed here & rightly so. BC over Niagara. Any school w/o a football team (Niagara) has no chance. Niagara Falls. NH over M: Outraged that lots of folks think DEAN is from NH instead of Vermont, they humble Michigan weenies. Maine over W: Their song here: Screw the Big 10, or 11, or whatever. This is Hockey. BC over NH. I HATE thse little R catholic schools, and BC a very big dislike of mine. But by reading this board, gotta go with the "boston birdies" here. But wait.... UND over D. More of the same for those denver dudes. They expect it! Minn-D over M. Sorry, goofers, you've shot your load. Besides, hyphenated names are good Hockey teams. UND over Minn-D. For the Sioux, so many sticks; so little time. Maine over bc. The wimps find out .......well they know it anyway.....wimpy schools/teams can't go to "frozen finals". Besides, only 78 fans show up. UND over Minn-D. UND is on a roll; builds steady momentum, has beTter players, coaching & fans. Only God could overcome that combo. But God wears GREEN ! GO SIOUX !!!!!.........AND CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!!!!! Baxter in Richmond, Virginia. Its still cold enough here so I can wear my UND sweatpants & use football championship jersey & coffee mug till its over.
  3. PARDON MY IGNORANCE......But I presume Kleinsasser i UND grad? When? How many years in the NFL? Being from Virginia............and new to posting here.........and a Virginia Tech grad, but BIG Sioux fan through some friends in "NODAK" (friends since forever)..I'd like to know of other North Dakotan in the NFL, or some who used to be. For any who are not familiar w/ Virginia Tech grads in the Nfl, I'll give you the "old" & the "new": Bruce Smith & Michael Vick. Thanks guys........oh yeah, and maybe something to keep this thread going: Do you think the Vikings should trash the dome ans go back to REAL Viking football, meaning of course OUTDOORS !!!!!!
  4. As your southernmost Fighting Sioux here in Richmond, Virginia, I wanted to congratulation your/my guys on being # 1 in the polls again. I went to Virginia Tech (club hockey only) but have ALWAYS been a big Sioux fan since forever. I have very good friends of 37 years (both UND grads) in Arthur, N.D. I also noted bc (notice I don't honor them with capital letters) is # 2. Having played them for years (and cleaned their clocks regularly) while in the Big East (as of July 1 we are in the ACC), I can tell you FOR SURE what a bunch of whining wimps the bc fans are. They don't support theit teams (I would be STUNNED if even 1 would have the stones to show up in Grand Forks), and are just a bunch of weenies in general. Now I don't pretend to know much hockey, but I'll bet we could get inside their heads to the tune of about 5-0 in a playoff game. I hope it comes up. CAN'T WAIT for the playoffs; this is the only news I get! GO FIGHTING SIOUX !!!!!!!!!!! (RANT FINISHED..........OUT) Orange & Maroon Sioux
  5. I posted my first UND post earlier under football, my # 1 sport. I am a Virginia Tech grad & fan; but UND is my second favorite school. Why? How? What the.....? My roommate in pilot training 39 years ago is a UND grad (as is his wife) and we have been friends ever since. I've only actually been to "NoDak" 5 or 6 times, but love it. Been to the UND campus; love it. Never met ANYONE (even ndsu grads) that I didn't like. Being from Virginia (Richmond) I know little about hockey. I have seen 2 or 3 of the Sioux National Championship teams/games over the years; especially the championships for they are always on tv. Recently, I found out that Virginia Tech has a "club" hockey team: not varsity; not school sponsored, and they drive 30 miles to the closest rink to practice. BUT, I also found out that we were in a tournament with all the ACC schools that have club teams, and beat Dike for the title! Now I know that is small potatoes to you Sioux, but ya gotta start somewhere ! I would very much appreciate some emails/posts helping me know the general state of Sioux Hockey this year as to rank & record; what the past few years have been; what the future looks like, and when the last Championship was for I am not real sure. I don't even know much about the game, but thats OK. If the fighting Sioux do it, I am into it! Thanks a lot guys. This is pretty late so I might post again tomorrow......rather later today. I just found the sight (through my old friends who live in Arthur (just north of Fargo) last night. Thanks for your help. (E) Baxter Lemmond.........Lah-mond Richmond, Virginia email: VTBaxter@earthlink.net
  6. I am a Virginia Tech grad ('64), and my roommate in pilot training 39 years ago is a SIOUX (class of '63) as is his wife. They live in Arthur. We have always remained friends; I have been to NoDak many times; love it; been to the campus; love it; hope to go to a football game AND a Hockey match there someday. Was at the CHAMPIONSHIP GAME several years ago in Alabama. In'99, we played in the National Championship game against Florida State, but lost. Our main man was MICHAEL VICK !!!!!!!! You GOTTA know him ! Virginia Tech's colors are Orange & Maroon (NO other school anywhere has OUR colors !), hence my "name". Looks like I won't get a chance to see us trample ndsu; am interested in what you all think of that decision of them to go 1-A. I went to law school @ U of Richmond and they are 1-A. I also live here in Richmond, but am wearing my UND sweatpants "as we speak" !!!! Go Sioux !!! It's nice to be here. Baxter ......aka Orange & Maroon Sioux
  7. Hello ! This is my first post here; am a Virginia Tech grad & fan, but thru some good friends, the Fighting Sioux are my "other" favorite team! On our boards, there is just a running list of posts for football, or basketball, etc. We don't do it quite like this, so I am not sure where to view this to see if it makes it! I AM interested in NDSU decision to move up. Did (I presume) go to 1-A ? Someone called them the UMC (I think); don't know what that means. I live in Richmond Virginia. Baxter aka Orange & Maroon (Virginia Tech's colors) Sioux.
