Dave Hakstol Leaving to Coach NHL Philadelphia Flyers
UNDColorado replied to Ray77's topic in Men's Hockey
When I saw the news this morning the first name that popped into my mind was Berry. I believe he will do a fine job. Dave Tippitt also intrigues me but doubtful give the recent updates from Schloss. -
Haha awesome thread title. Well played.

He was in one of my classes. I saw him a couple times early in the semester and then on test days. All I know is that it is tough to make good grades when you are never there.

It has been repeated on here that the best strategy is to recruit high school athletes to get them in the program young and then develop them. I agree with this 100%. However, given the coaching change and state of our program in general, FBS transfers are a must to fill gaping holes in our depth chart. Most young guys just cannot step in right away at this level and I am a fan of redshirting them their first year so they can develop mental and physical strength. This strategy takes time and we need at least two more recruiting classes until this strategy can fully take over. Until then I am happy that the coaches are always on the lookout for the right transfer.

I think he meant FBS transfer to UND.

I have a feeling that bohl's defense will be much improved over last year. Regardless of the skill of their defense, ours will simply need to be better in all facets. Honestly I don't see a win here. I would like to see our team play fundamentally well and keep it close, but if it is close in the 4th quarter then anything can happen. Also, don't mistake this assessment with being happy with mediocrity, but rather I am just being realistic with the state of our (improving) program. This is an intriguing matchup between two teams with 2nd year coaches so I am just looking forward to seeing this play out in person. Outside of NoCo this is a rare opportunity for me to make a day trip to see the team in person.

Since multiple sources have confirmed that the team let Sharp go it leads me to believe they are close to locking up some transfers who will be ready to play come fall.

The federalization of state and local police has been slowly happening all over the country. The recent riots will be used to further justify this. Vail CO totally needs a mine resistant vehicle...not. There's the "hope & change" we were promised.

Sounds like they expect a FBS RB to be visiting in the next couple weeks. Hopefully they are the right fit as this position group is now dangerously thin.

I would be okay with North Stars...on the college level that is pretty unique. Minnesota fans will lose their minds. My main fear is that we choose some bland name that 10 other schools currently use. Heck there were two "Mavericks in the old WCHA."

I would be more than okay with that compromise. Bubba to Bohl: Craig, just do the right thing and let the kid play. In return he will not dress when we open the season against your team.
-
Thanks for the update as I wasn't sure if they were working on this behind the scenes.

Sharp kind of caught my eye based of of the highlights of the spring game. I would be interested to hear if anyone can confirm the above. Also- Such a bummer Nevermann can't play next year; kid looks and runs tough. Is there any way to appeal bohl's decision to at least get another year of eligibility?

At this point I plan to. I am getting excited as well! Edit- looks like Laramie is only a 3 hour drive for me

FWIW I think Tom Miller at the GF Herald has been stepping up his coverage. That is nice to see.

No live stream at this point. If UND admin is reading this it would be nice to see the game loaded onto the UND site after it is over.

In the opposite of awesome news...no web stream for the spring game.

I think playoffs is a bit overly optimistic (as pointed out above) but I am optimistic that we will be in for some very competitive football. I believe 6 or 7 wins is not out of the question and if this team can be in some close games into the 4th quarter then anything can happen. I saw the competitivness improve last year and I see no reason why this trend will not continue as long as the team keeps grinding. Now that hockey is over the football bug has bit me and it is only April!
-
That sounds about right, maybe a few more. When a MVFC team comes in (other than SDSU) how many fans from other teams do you estimate are there?
-
I see what you are saying but some other NDSU fans that post regularly on this forum seem to think that UND will be terrible forever. We all know that college sports are cyclical and it seems that our program is finally in good hands so continual improvement should be expected. Now I fully expect NDSU to be competitive each and avery season but winning a close game, or losing to UND, would not be the end of the world for you guys. For the record, I do not think we will win, but as you pointed out earlier it will probably closer than many rubes think.

I second this ^^
