  1. This escalated quickly!
  2. Seems like a good turnout judging by the article and pictures: http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/local-sports/3776508-former-grand-forks-central-star-bollinger-returns-home-hold-camp
  3. I think that spread is realistic and well said. Just because we are moving in the right direction does not mean we are there.
  4. It can be. It can also be a terrible hindrance to name recognition as well. Can you give me an example of how this will be positive to branding? Maybe a scenario?
  5. My letter was published this morning: http://www.grandforksherald.com/letters/3775917-letter-few-know-sundogs-everyone-knows-roughriders
  6. Yeah the number of sundogs letters recently published seemed a bit odd. The who blue color crystal argument made laugh. There is no cannabis strong enough to make a person that stupid. Trust me, I live in Colorado
  7. Lately the Herald has been publishing too many letters to the editor from people who support sundogs. For example, one of the letter was from a u of Minnesota alum who lives in Grafton. So I got off my butt and submitted a letter last night so hopefully it gets published. If it doesn't, here is is for everyone of this forum: (special thanks to RD17 for doing the research on the institutions that usetheir state motto) What the heck is a sundog? I will begin this by conveying my dissatisfaction with how this entire nickname process has played out thus far. Do we really need pay consultants to help us pick a new nickname? The old saying about consultants goes something like this: “A consultant is someone who borrows your watch to tell you the time, and then keeps the watch.” Now to my main point: Sundogs. This is a weather phenomenon that does happen in North Dakota, among other cold weather states. Sure it is kind of cool to see, but is this a name that merits the nickname of the states flagship university UND? Some have said this represents Grand Forks. This is not the University of Grand Forks so let’s think bigger than that. To me the answer is a resounding no. I do not want my U’s nickname to be a weather phenomenon. I definitely do not want the logo to be some sort of rainbow. There are many state universities that use their states motto as a nickname. Of the seven names the committee and consultants deemed “popular”, there is one that does stick out. Roughriders. Which happens to be one of North Dakota’s state mottos. A common argument is that RRHS is the Roughriders. Hazen High School is the bison, the exact same name as another major university in the state. I can live with that. Here is a list of state universities that use their state motto as their mascot: Razorback State (Arkansas) The Bear State (California) Buffalo Plains State (Colorado) Blue Hen State (Delaware) Alligator State (Florida) Hoosier State (Indiana) Hawkeye State (Iowa) Jayhawk State (Kansas) Terrapin State (Maryland) Wolverine State (Michigan) Cornhusker State (Nebraska) Tar Heel State (North Carolina) Buckeye State (Ohio) Sooner State (Oklahoma) Coyote State (South Dakota) Volunteer State (Tennessee) Mountain State (West Virginia) Badger State (Wisconsin) Cowboy State (Wyoming) I love the Fighting Sioux nickname and will continue to identify as such for quite some time, and I am happy that in the past UND was respectful enough to only use a logo. However, we must move on for uncontrollable reasons and there are not enough pages in this fine publication to explain how we got here. If we have to pick a new nickname please pick something that I don’t have to explain every time someone asks: “What the heck is a sundog?”
  8. If moving up was based solely on success, then yes, NDSU would be a great candidate. Reality is moving up is based on money and tv sets.
  9. I do not think those are new Anyway, I am looking forward to the test our guys will face.

    Denver

Welcome to Colorado! I live up in Breck but spent a few years in Denver. The bar to watch UND Hockey is Jackson's Sports Bar, directly across the street from Coors Field. A few years ago I met a guy who organizes the watch parties thru the Alumni Association. The association will announce the watch parties but you can go to Jackson's anyway to watch most games. As far as where to live, there are a lot of options. My only advice would be to live relatively close to where you work to cut down on the commute. You will thank yourself for this months down the road.
  11. Does it matter in the grand scheme of things? I would say you had a point if they competed at the same level, but they don't.
  12. All I would like to add to this drawn out debate is that Hazen high School is the Bison. That said, I don't pay too much attention to those who don't like Roughriders because RRHS already uses the name.
  13. That might happen. I take 8-10 days off each October to come home to hunt so I will try to line it up on a weekend that we play in GF. If it happens to work out that way I will definitely let you know! Dates TBD but best bets would be Idaho State or Montana Sate.
  14. You should trek that mobile tailgater down to Laramie!
  15. Every team has fair weather fans. The average joe likes to cheer for the winning team.
  16. Hardin had a nice TD grab in last nights preseason game. He also looks like he has put some muscle on. Great to see him competing for a spot.
  17. Sask Roughriders are on ESPN3 tomorrow night. That might help a bit. Wonder if Hardin will dress since it's preseason?
  18. Coworker and I just discussed this exact topic. I explained what a sundog is and laughs erupted.
  19. Anything but Sundogs
  20. I swear to God, if Sundogs is chosen I quit. Whats the logo going to be, a version of a rainbow? UGH
  21. espn3 as well?
  22. Beautiful (for now) in Breckenridge. I can't wait to make the 3 hour drive north for this game!
