Or how about this one? The Cult-She Sells Sanctuary

You get caught standing around in your own end and that's what's going to happen. Come on boys, we are running out of time to get into the top five in the league.

I went to the UND-SDSU game in Brookings in 2002 (the game Kelby Klosterman got injured in ) and I thought it was a total dump. The west stands looked like something out of the Depression era and the east stands were so fragile-looking that I thought I might break through them! That was over seven years ago and there is no telling how bad they are now. I wish them luck in improving their stadium situation, it will hurt their recruiting sooner or later.

Well, if you get CBC on your cable package, you will get Canadian Olympic coverage since that is Canada's official Olympic network. I get CBC, so I will get some extra hockey games out of it.

It isn't just Fargo that people west of Jamestown don't like. During the 1999 Legislative Session where funding for the Grand Forks flood protection system was being debated, some western legislators didn't want Grand Forks to get one red cent. Now you can expect Fargo to get the same level of static when it comes time to fund a diversion project. Fargo needs quality, dependable flood protection and the whole state should work together to help them get it.

Good point. All I want at this point is to get a much-needed two out of four points on the road. We are looking at hitting the road for the first round if we don't start getting points every weekend. And I don't know if this team has it in them to win a road series.

Lamoureux Family in Sports Illustrated
fightingsioux4life replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Just cut out the article about the Lamoureuxs and toss the rest of it. That's what I did. -
I think Jim is way more tolerant than some other forums are of minority opinions or controversial viewpoints. And the rules cover common sense things that are unacceptable just about everywhere in society at large. Anyone who has a problem with how this forum is administered is way too sensitive and is just asking for anarchy, which is bad for everyone.

I recall another team that had trouble finishing their chances. It was the 1995-96 team with the first freshmen class under Dean Blais. Well, the very next year (1996-97) those same forwards that couldn't finish started finishing and we won our sixth NCAA title. And those very same freshmen finished as one of the winningest classes in school history. That is what I am hoping will happen with this current group of players that are having trouble finishing.

Is that even around anymore? Didn't that stop when he graduated? That was more entertaining than most of what has happened on the ice this year anyway.

Better start looking for an alternate team to cheer for in the Final Five because I don't think the boys in Green and White will be there unless they buy ticket packages. This team is just not that good. It isn't about talent on paper, it's about putting it all together for 60 minutes. Tonight we had a 2-0 lead at home and were controlling the game pretty good and just screwed it away. Once the rock got rolling down the hill it was all over. I think next season we'll be more consistent with all these young guys coming back (none of them have really made a case to leave early), but I think this season is now about rebuilding and preparing for the future. I think there is a good chance that we get swept in two weeks at St. Cloud; the Huskies are looking good right now. The one series I think we have a good chance to sweep is the final regular season home series vs. Michigan Tech. And by that time, it might be too late to salvage home ice for the first round. Unless we pull it together and start playing better as a team, I don't think these boys have it in them to win a playoff series on the road. We MUST get home ice or I think the season will be over.

Ed Schultz suggesting election be stolen

Actually, I think the comment was made during coverage of the Haiti earthquake. -
If you keep talking like that, Sid Hartman will make you one of his "close personal friends"!

Ed Schultz suggesting election be stolen
fightingsioux4life replied to star2city's topic in Community
Ed Schultz should not have said what he said. This isn't Iran or Saddam's Iraq, where elections are rigged for one person or one party. His "warmonger" comment about John McCain in 2008 was also out of line; McCain has always been cautious about using military force in foreign places. And during the 2004 election cycle, MoveOn.org put together an ad comparing George W. Bush to Hitler; again outrageous and uncalled for. But this shouldn't surprise anyone who has followed the media during the information age. Last week, Rush Limbaugh suggested that the relief response by the Obama Administration was motivated by a thirst for political power and influence. Never mind that the United States has been involved in humanitarian relief for years under both Republican and Democratic governments (the Somali relief effort started under Bush 41 and continued under Clinton). Or what Pat Robertson said about Haiti making a deal with the Devil to get rid of the French, which is why the earthquake happened. Robertson's influence has waned considerably from what it was in the mid 1990's, so his only option is to be more outrageous and controversial. It's all about ratings, ad rates and (most important of all to the hosts of these talk shows) attention. People tend to tune into media outlets that echo and reinforce their own personal political biases and preferences (Fox News on the Right, MSNBC on the Left). CNN tries to be all things to all people and it isn't working like it did when they started back in 1980. Most media outlets are owned by big corporate conglomerates, which means whatever brings in the big ratings and subsequent ad revenues will remain on the air and in the best time slots for listeners/viewers. Outrageous and controversial content sells; "real" news does not. When they held Walter Cronkite's funeral, they should have had a funeral for journalistic objectivity at the same time. Schultz will get a lot of ratings and attention for what he said, which is why he said it in the first place. The former makes the network happy the latter makes Schultz happy. It's the same reason Fox News brought Sarah Palin on board as a commentator. Palin is very polarizing; either you love her or hate her. Those that love her will tune in every chance they get to listen to her. Those that hate her will also tune in just to hear what she has to say, even if it's like fingernails on a chalkboard to them. It's a win-win, no-brainer to the network and to Palin (especially if she is seeking the 2012 GOP Nomination). In retrospect, Bobby Knight (whom I am not a big fan of) was ahead of his time. All those chair-throwing antics were cold and calculated actions to either get his team motivated or to get the media attention that his ego demands or both. This was very effective in a time before the Internet, YouTube and Cable/Satellite TV became a prominent force in our lives. Now these tactics are even more effective and influential, which is why tactics like those used by Schultz, Robertson and Limbaugh will continue being used. It's sad commentary on our media and society, but it's also the truth. -
I agree 100%. The problem right now is that all the teams are crammed into just five conferences (not counting the soon-to-be dead CHA). I have always opposed 10 to 12 team conferences because they get too big and watered down. Another strong league to replace the CHA (which was always weak except for Bemidji State) that would provide an alternative home for some of these programs and help existing conferences streamline themselves (think WCHA and CCHA) would alleviate the problem. The question is how would it happen? And which programs would benefit from leaving their current conference home? Tough problem, even tougher solutions. As for the scheduling arrangement discussed in the article, it's probably as fair of a system that you can hope for in a 12 team league.
