  1. What is it with Hakstol-coached teams winning on Friday night and laying a big, fat, steaming turd on Saturday night? Hopefully, this team will develop consistency by Christmas. And I think winning at home will be important in a stacked conference like the NCHC.
  2. Well, I hope the Mussman apologists have been convinced that this regime isn't going to get it done. This is Mussman's show and it has turned into the Gong Show. In six seasons, Mussman has managed to turn a solid D-II program into a weak FCS program that couldn't beat most of our good teams from the early 2000's. He is in over his head and it's time for a change. I am with Siouxperfan7, I want it to happen NOW. I want Faison to make a statement that this type of crap will not be tolerated at the University of North Dakota. Calling a press conference on Monday morning to make an announcement about the future of the football program would send that message.
  3. That is a pure cop-out. We used to have teams that skated the puck in and we have always played on 200 x 85 ice. It's just that we have a coaching staff that refuses to do anything but dump it in. I honestly wish they would be willing to make an exception to that rule in situations where it clearly does not work. We all know what the definition of insanity is.
  4. The entertainment is watching the game of hockey being played at a high level by the best in the world. Hockey, minus obstruction holding, is one of the most entertaining sports in the world to watch. It's fast, physical and requires strength and athleticism. They also could make the nets wider and taller, which would result in more goals and more highlights on ESPN. But it would diminish the quality of the product for a few cheap thrills. Maybe I sound like a cranky old man (I'm only 39!), but that is how I feel about it.
  5. This is the problem with society right now. Everything is about "entertainment" and if it isn't "entertaining", it should be changed even if the solution is a colossal joke. And this is one prime example. And don't think for a second that some genius looking to boost TV ratings will start pushing to have shootouts in the playoffs. That would be the last straw for me and a lot of other people.
  6. Why is that? Some leagues now have shootouts and some don't. I think Hockey East experimented with shootouts many years ago and decided not to keep them. A 4x4 OT format would be far less disruptive to continuity between leagues.
  7. Have a 10 minute, 4 x 4 OT period. That would eliminate a lot of the ties. And it would be team vs. team, not player vs. player.
  8. Maybe they won't take us seriously like Eastern Washington?
  9. I am still not sold on the shootout; it takes away from the team aspect. But as long as they aren't used in the playoffs, I can live with it.
  10. Toews is Exhibit A for why college hockey is not the black hole for NHL prospects that people like Don Cherry want us to believe.
  11. Cal-Poly
  12. I think your assessment is spot-on.
  13. Apples and oranges. The Alerus Center was built by the City of Grand Forks to promote economic development and bring in outside dollars. UND is just another client of the Alerus Center. REA was specifically built with a mission to benefit UND and UND athletics. So charging UND to play there would be a slap in the face and a knife in the back. And I don't see that ever happening.
  14. Not as easy as 82SiouxGuy says it is, is it? You almost have to be a lawyer to understand those forms; which is why doing your taxes every April is such a pain in the butt. He should remember that the next time he scolds and preaches to others on what they should or shouldn't do.
  15. Looks like it does: http://collegehockeyinc.com/ I think a lot of their work is behind the scenes, but it wouldn't hurt for them to be more visible and more active in confronting the CHL and their sleazy tactics.
  16. This is why you shouldn't believe everything businesses tell you. Sometimes they are just trying to placate the public when the truth would tick people off. I guess that is my complaint!
  17. I am guessing Sac State (this weekend) and Northern Colorado.
  18. I guess that comment should be aimed at Faison and Kelley and not you. This is where the rubber meets the road. Mussman hasn't earned a $250K+ salary, but if we want to build this program the right way, that is the salary range that a new coach will command (whether it's Tibesar or someone else). I am very anxious to find out what they decide after the season.
  19. Realists rarely accomplish anything great. Visionaries that look at the long-term and are willing to put serious resources into a venture usually do.
  20. I loved Muss as offensive coordinator. He always seemed to have a knack for calling the right plays at the right times. But being head coach is a much different job and not all coordinators succeed as head coaches (the NFL is full of examples of this). Muss would be better off going to Carbondale and taking over Lennon's offense there; they certainly have struggled to score points since Lennon took over.
  21. Very funny! We'll just have to agree to disagree on that stuff. As for Fighting Sioux athletics, we are in lock-step!
  22. All I know is that this program has regressed and deteriorated to its lowest point since 1986. Mussman is at the top of the food chain in the Memorial Stadium football offices and has been since 2008. That means the buck stops with him. That's how it works in the military and it's how it works in collegiate athletics. And unless this team somehow runs the table, I don't see him surviving.
  23. Don't be too hard on him. When you are defending Chris Mussman in a thread entitled "Fire Muss", sometimes snide comments are all you have in the ammo clip.
  24. Yeah, that too. This team just has a different feel to it than previous Hakstol teams. And I mean that in a good way.
  25. The forwards are looking more like the ones we had in the 1990's: smaller, faster, more skilled. I think Hakstol is trying to build a team that can keep up with those speedy teams in Hockey East. Being tough, rugged and physical worked during the regular season, but not once the NCAA tournament rolled around. Whether this works out or not is anybody's guess.
