  1. Okay, let's not turn this into a national titles vs. regular season success argument. You know where that leads. But I do agree with the bolded part; the NHL is a totally different ballgame for Hakstol. You are going from an admiring local media that you are best buds with to a cut-throat, blood-thirsty Philadelphia sports media who makes a living chewing up and spitting people out for fun. This is where Hak's patented mind-numbing coach-speak will serve him well. He won't give them anything to hit him on the head with.
  2. Most schools have one big revenue sport and use that money to fund the other programs. The question SIOUXFAN97 asks is valid. With the cash machine that is REA, why are we always looking under the cushions of our couch for money? Or at least it seems that way. If we don't fund FCOA for anything other than hockey, it will get only worse. And things are not all that good right now.
  3. Sorry, but you just proved my point for me. The bolded statement above is precisely what is wrong with athletics right now. If you don't support the FB program all the time (win or lose, good times and bad), it will never be successful on a year to year basis. And like Sic said, it is possible to be good in more than one sport at the same time. The idea that we have to pick one sport and ignore the rest is a false choice.....and needs to be put to bed once and for all.
  4. To be fair, the IPF is for all programs on campus, not just football. But you are right, Faison has done some good things here. It's the "hockey-only" culture that has to change. And that will take some time.
  5. This is unacceptable for a school that moved all their programs up to Division I. If we wanted to maintain a "hockey-only" attitude, we should have stayed in Division II and joined the NSIC. But we didnt', so we need to stop focusing on one sport and letting the others twist in the wind. Enough is enough.
  6. I think the SBHE and the Legislature have to give UND permission to build stuff like this, but it is being funded via private donations.
  7. If you fill jobs internally, it doesn't take all that long. Internal candidates get first crack at openings before anyone on the outside.
  8. Someone told me this about 15 years ago and it is still true today: B.S. is well, BS. M.S. is more of the same. Ph.D. is Piled High and Deep.
  9. Every head coach got his first head coaching job someplace.
  10. In order to lose something, you first must possess it.
  11. Maybe the campus in general doesn't care, but the Badgers have a pretty core group of fans that follows the team like we follow ours. How much longer are they going to put up with it before they start calling for a change?
  12. I agree with all of this.
  13. A better question is, how in the HECK did Mike Eaves get the Wisconsin job in the first place? The first I had ever heard of him was when the Badgers hired him to replace Jeff Sauer. I always thought Mark Johnson (son of "Badger Bob" Johnson) would be hired to replace Sauer. Now he's in charge of the very successful Badger women's program, while fans have to work hard to stay awake watching the Mike Eaves 60 Minute Backchecking System he is so attached to. And no, the 2006 "natty" would not make all that boring pre-2004 NHL lockout hockey worth putting up with. I think we are in good hands with Berry.
  14. Smile all you want, but I am not the least bit nervous about the change. Even if they hadn't promoted Berry from within, our program would have attracted a boatload of quality coaching prospects to choose from. Good luck to Hakstol and good luck dealing with the Philadelphia sports media. They are a bunch of blood thirsty sharks from what I have heard.
  15. I think there is a valid point in that post. The NHL is a much different animal; coaches get fired 10 games into the regular season sometimes. At a college program, you are king of the castle; in the NHL you are way more expendable than the players. I wish him all the best; I do think the NHL is a good fit for him.
  16. IALTO!!!
  17. What is snarky, sanctimonious or self-righteous about stating unpopular opinions about issues I care deeply about? I am not one to play "follow the leader" or "going along to get along", as many other posters on this forum are. So when people suggest UND chart a course that will harm it's programs and the people who make up those programs, I cannot stay silent. I have totally ran out of patience for the "nickname at all costs" crowd in our fan base, many of whom are also members of the "hockey-only" fan club. The health and well-being of our programs will in part be determined by how we resolve (or not resolve) this issue.
  18. Ah, the dreaded "t-shirt" card. I did not see that coming. Well played. I don't think you are a jerk or a prick. I am just sick and tired of some people on this forum who don't seem to care about what keeping the name and logo would have meant for our coaches and athletes. There comes a time when you have to cut bait and move on because the costs of continuing the fight outweigh the potential benefits. This is serious business and I take it very seriously. If your original comments were tongue-in-cheek, I apologize, as they didn't seem to be. You might want to use or in the future so that there isn't any confusion.
  19. I am with you on Title IX. But that doesn't mean that lacrosse is not an option for us. Get rid of both baseball and softball and replace them with men's and women's lacrosse. If we can play it indoors (Alerus Center or IPF), we won't have to worry about weather. It also has a tremendous upside for the future.
  20. Never. My desire to move on is not based on a dislike for the name and logo; I grew up with them. But if they are going to damage UND and it's programs, we need to choose a different name and logo and move on. I will leave my pseudonym as a tribute to the history and tradition of the name and logo and all the teams that won championships while wearing them on their uniforms.
  21. I am not on here to win popularity contests, so you can save your snarky comments for someone who cares. I have had it with selfish, sanctimonious people like yababy8 insisting that they get what they want despite the negative consequences that would have to be suffered by our coaches, student-athletes and, to a much lesser extent, our loyal fan base. And I don't think that loyalty is determined by how willing one is to move on from the nickname issue when all the good alternative options have been exhausted. Yababy8 apparently cares more about the name than the institution; that is his right. But when certain individuals blast me with "everyone is entitled to their own opinion", what they are really saying is that people like yababy8 have a right to their opinion.....and people like myself are supposed to be quiet and go along with the crowd. Well, I wont do that because it is the people that won't let go and move on that are holding UND back. The more we fight this battle, the further we fall behind the other Dakota schools (NDSU, SDSU, USD) and our Big Sky brethren. And lastly, if you don't like the length of my posts, you don't have to read them. And if are reading this message, it is obvious you have made your choice in that regard. Oh, and I almost forgot...... End Rant.
  22. But nobody is entitled to be exempt from criticism for expressing said opinion. And if someone expresses an opinion that might hurt UND and it's mission, I will criticize it. Got it?
  23. Look Junior, I am as big of a critic of Kelley and Faison as you will find. But you are simply wrong on this issue. Deal with it.
