But according to some people, Kelley and company are doing a great job because they are telling people "no" more.

Adrian Peterson wants trade to Cowboys

Some of the "fans" quoted in the Heraldo cover story on Thursday need to hear that as well. Because they are confusing a nickname with an institution that many of us here have strong positive feelings about. -

Umm, I am dedicated to the Vikings, not to any one player. As great as AP is, he is not bigger than the team. No one is. Nice try though. -

Yes and there are too many people that jump on and off and can't make their minds up. -

True fans stick with their teams no matter what. Any fans of the Purple who want off the bandwagon are strongly encouraged to get off and stay off. -

Bottom line: I don't like Kelley's leadership style. He does everything he can to keep his fingernails squeaky clean no matter how sticky the issue, he runs and hides behind his staff and lets them do the dirty work and then he'll come out of hiding and proclaim to the entire world "Yep, the buck stops here!", when in fact it never even slowed down there. EERC needed intervention, it was having problems that weren't being solved. Aerospace is one of the most successful programs on campus, why does it need to be "in the crosshairs" at all? They more than pull their own weight on campus. Kelley wants to put a fair-haired boy into place that he can remote control from his office. Any "waste of taxpayer money" is a result of all these new VP positions that Kelley seems to believe are absolutely necessary. All he wants them for is to make it easier for him to micromanage everyone. You will never get the best out of someone if you are breathing over their shoulder all the time. And please don't make this political because when I come to work on campus, I don't see "liberal" or "conservative" or anything else. I see a dedicated group of faculty and staff doing what they can to help students reach their goals and get off to a good start in life. We are not "wasteful", "entitled", or "spoiled". Faculty work as hard (if not harder) than all the self-professed working class heroes on this forum and in the hinterlands of the Midwest. Same goes for the staff. And one last thing, what do you have against Reader's Digest? End rant. -
Not an option, I don't care how many people are quoted in the Heraldo saying otherwise. This issue will not go away until we get a new nickname.

Lack of leadership at the top from Kelley and his minions to Faison at the Athletic Department. Trying to sneak controversial decisions by everyone so that people cannot express their objections and/or concerns about said decisions. That about sums it up. Some people were critical of Ken Baker, but that was the last UND President I really liked. I wish we could go back to that kind of leadership. -
I think just using "Stars" instead of "North Stars", with a unique logo, would work. Although I think someone on here would find something in Webster's Dictionary that disqualifies that too. Some people here need to get over this idea that anything that anybody uses at any level of sports is off-limits. There really aren't that many unique names that aren't being used by someone. Whatever is picked, a unique logo can be designed to help distinguish ourselves. That is the best we can do in our current situation.
-
Well, considering UND is a college and the Wild are a fellow competing NHL team, that isn't necessarily apples to apples. UND using the North Stars name and logo wouldn't threaten the Dallas Stars at all.
-
Go with just plain "Stars". Sure, it's a little bland, but it's better than a lot of alternatives (Prairie Dogs, Sun Dogs, Spirit, Flames, Green and White, etc.).
-
Isn't that an added bonus?
-
I must admit, it's a cute little animal. But that is what makes it a bad choice for an sports nickname.
-
Questioning the loyalty of a fellow poster is not cool.
-
I will go with the Wild in 6 over the Hawks. The Blackhawks aren't as deep as their Cup winning teams were and the Wild have the edge in goal. The Wild are also a great road team.
-
Drop the "North" and go with just plain "Stars". It would work with our colors and it shouldn't be offensive to anyone. Other names I like are Oilers, Aviators, Predators (the warplane, not the animal), Jets (with a much different logo than Winnipeg), Flyers and Raptors. Are any of them as good as Fighting Sioux? No. Are they better than nothing? Yes. Am I ready for this whole tired, sorry affair to be over? Heck Yes.

Man, all this FB talk is making me excited for the 2015 campaign!

I suppose he didn't understand the full extent of what was going to happen until he got to that particular part of the movie. But I do think this is a bit of an overreaction. It's like those posters on UND's campus entitled "More than Beads and Feathers".....the presumption (mostly false, but sometimes true) that us white Europeans look at Native Americans as all living in teepees and wearing feathers and animal skins. I for one couldn't care less about a person's skin color, ethnic origins or nationality (if I did, I wouldn't work on campus). But I am sure that B.R.I.D.G.E.S. will tell me that I don't know what I am talking about and that only they are allowed to comment on issues like this.
-
Yeah, I was just guessing.
-
No, those prices would turn off pretty much everyone, which mean very few sales, which means very little profit.
-
Concessions? That is supposedly how most events make most of their money.

Yeah, I wish I was his agent. Those guys make good money. And if I was AP's agent, I wouldn't behave like a jacka$$ and would talk some sense into his head. -

Yes, eventually Father Time wins (I actually use that a lot). But I am not convinced that AP is all washed up yet. And the Ravens won a championship in Ray Lewis' final season, so I guess he wasn't all that "slow". His leadership presence more than compensated for any "slowness".
