  1. They went after little UND, so I don't think the overall profile of the team will dictate whether or not a team is targeted. Particularly in the social media world we now live in. And a slight correction, baseball is America's "past-its-time".
  2. I am sure they are. But they don't get even a fraction of the hate that Chief Wahoo does. And I think the reason is obvious.
  3. They'll probably change the logo, but keep the name. You don't hear the Chicago Blackhawks getting too much grief over their logo because it is more tasteful than that hideously grinning logo the Indians use.
  4. I don't think you can compare an event that happened twelve months ago to something that hasn't happened since 2011. And I don't think we will have to wait another 15 years for our next NCAA title.
  5. Or..........Alex Jones?
  6. Oh, trust me, I am looking forward. Forward to October. But I wanted to remind everyone of how awesome it is to win a national championship, so that we don't forget.
  7. If we do this, then there would be no difference between college sports and professional sports. I don't think we need to (or should) go that far.
  8. I thought our d-men made big strides this year. And most of them will be back next year (minus Poolman, unfortunately). We shouldn't struggle as much next year and if our freshmen can contribute offensively, we'll be just fine.
  9. Amen. It is also a good thing that President Kennedy is in charge and NOT Rob Port: http://www.grandforksherald.com/opinion/columns/4247180-port-und-ndsu-sports-cost-college-students-taxpayers Given that Rob Port would probably privatize the entire NDUS if he were given dictatorial powers for a day, I don't think his opinion is worth much.
  10. It was one year ago tonight, at about this time, that we were finishing off Quinnipiac in the NCAA title game to capture our 8th NCAA title. Now, after an up and down, sometimes frustrating year, we are looking forward to the 2017-18 campaign and a continuation of the #drivefornine. I think we will have one heck of a team next season and I am counting the days, weeks and months until October! Go Fighting Hawks (Sioux)!!!
  11. This is the point I have been making on this forum for about 10 years now. This is the main reason I didn't want to join the Summit League.
  12. Didn't see this coming. Whether it lasts much longer remains to be seen.
  13. As did I (Class of 1993). I didn't like that whole "Maroon and Gray" thing either. That whole issue was horribly handled by the School Board and the suits at Central. I think I'll see that ugly interlocking "GF" in my nightmares for the rest of my life! Having said all that, Knights has worked out wonderfully for Central.....even if Climax-Fisher didn't want us to use it!
  14. I have Harvard winning it all for the SiouxSports Bracket Challenge. Beyond that, I just cannot get excited about this year.
  15. Could SI be sued for putting out blatantly false information about UND? With their influence, they could cause some serious harm to the institution as a whole.
  16. Kind of like U.S. Bank Stadium?
  17. Income we have talked about...it is peanuts. Property is taxed at the state level, but more so at the local level. Sales is paid by everyone at some point. I do see your point, though.
  18. Thank you for missing the point. Look at ND tax rates. They are barely above zero. Anyone whining about ND tax rates has no leg to stand on. Now if we are talking about the 15,000+ page Federal tax code, then you have something to complain about.
  19. Ah yes, those poor, overburdened ND taxpayers. ND income taxes are peanuts. My tax refund this year from the state was just a hair over $20. Anyone whining about income taxes in this state just wants a free lunch. And having worked at UND for the better part of 14 years, I can tell you that we do run things "efficiently and effectively". We don't live high on the hog, no matter what Rob Port thinks. No faculty member has ever gotten rich teaching here. The Legislature should just throw off all the pretense and call for the complete privatization of the NDUS. That is what most of them want anyway. Having said all that, I do support cutting women's hockey and both swimming and diving programs and getting us down to 16 sports (17 if you count privately funded men's golf). But that is something that should have happened when we moved up to D-I (back in 2008 or so).
  20. Didn't they move money from research to other departments and colleges to avoid making cuts? I seem to remember hearing about that.
  21. NDSU is putting off long-term structural changes to their organization. It will backfire on them at some point. Also, they only have 16 sports, so they really cannot cut anything.
  22. NDSU is not immune to the budget situation in North Dakota: http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/4245973-ndsus-bismarck-nursing-program-risk-bresciani-warns-email NDSU boosters like to make it sound like they are swimming in money and can do whatever they want. That clearly is not true.
  23. It is unfortunate for people who think cutting football is a good idea. It destroys their argument.
  24. As for cutting football, that is something that would have had to happen around the time we moved up to Division I (after Dale Lennon left to go to Southern Illinois). That is what Omaha did. Unfortunately, we have invested big $$$$$ into a practice facility big enough for football. Also, the program is on the upswing thanks to Bubba and his staff. This is an option that is no longer open to us.
