  1. Some people are better position coaches and/or coordinators than they are head coaches. And nobody can win at Northern State, you have very few resources to work with there. Let's not pull this out of the closet:
  2. Good points, but a last-place team in the NCHC is different than a last-place team in other leagues (like the WCHA for instance). Every game is a battle.
  3. People need to stop pulling this out of the closet after every loss.
  4. Here is an example of what I am talking about: Kirk Cousins finally comes up big, hits two huge throws to lift Vikings over Saints in overtime
  5. He moved a couple of guys from DE to DT to exploit weaknesses in the Saint's OL. That put pressure on Brees and made him ineffective most of the day. These changes were widely reported in the media after the game. Zimmer gets criticized for not making adjustments by a lot of people, not just me. But if that makes me obtuse, so be it.
  6. Responding to all this "Jimmy's and Joe's" talk. The Minnesota Vikings beat the Saints in OT on the road in part because Zimmer made some key adjustments to the defense. If he had been stubborn and stuck to his base scheme (which is what Bubba does too often, btw), Brees and company would have carved them up like a roast and the Vikings would be talking about next year right now. Adjusting your scheme to fit your personnel is a big part of it.
  7. This is even better than the 8 team playoff I posted about a month ago.
  8. The last two seasons were brutal. I am very happy about their performance so far, but the criticism Brewster was facing before this season was justified.
  9. They were rusty after the layoff. The opponent was not the caliber they see in the NCHC, so I think it might have been hard for them to get up for the games. Once they get back into the routine of practice and playing games every weekend, they will be fine.
  10. Playing Devil's Advocate, LSU dismantled Georgia in the SEC title game and Georgia is a good team. Nobody has been able to solve their offense this year. And I don't know if Clemson or Ohio State will be able to either.
  11. I never saw this coming.....but it is nice to see.
  12. Interesting to say the least.
  13. So you are already penciling in next Monday's game as a W? Doh-kay.
  14. Yeah, that 6-9-1 record last year was "so-lid".
  15. I think I will use this as a rebuttal to anyone claiming the "superiority" of the Little 7 (opps, I mean Big Ten).
  16. I have wanted this ever since you guys moved up to NCAA Division I. We need to help newer programs get stronger so we don't lose them.
  17. The last two seasons were very down in terms of performance on the ice. And we had no way of knowing if the younger guys would improve like they have. Or if the freshmen were going to contribute early or later. But yeah, there was a lot of weeping and gnashing of teeth on this forum.
  18. No worries. Thanks for pointing that out; I have clarified it in the original post.
  19. Those are suggestions of possible scholarship levels after splitting FBS. I know what the current levels are. I think I should clarify it in the original post.
  20. I don't think anyone saw this coming after the last two years of underwhelming play. I am very happy and excited for Coach Berry and the entire program, but things definitely looked gloomy after last season.
  21. Really? What $$$ do they get? They don't get the big bowl games (except for one team). They don't get the exposure. They don't get the rich TV contracts. It is untenable in the long-run. They are red headed stepchildren in the FBS. The P5 conferences might demand this split in the near future, which means it has a good chance of happening.
  22. There are 130 college football teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). While they are all in the same categorical classification, there are two very different groups of conferences within the FBS: The Power 5 Conferences (ACC, Big 12, Big 10, Pac-12 and SEC) and the Group of 5 Conferences (AAC, C-USA, MAC, MWC and Sun Belt). There are also 7 independents (Army, BYU, Notre Dame, Liberty, New Mexico State, UMass-Amherst and UConn). It is obvious that the P5 and G5 schools have little to nothing in common with each other in every important metric (TV money, facilities and other resources, national exposure, etc). It is obvious that the G5 schools have nothing to gain by being in the same subdivision as the P5 schools. They will likely never qualify for the College Football Playoff (even if it expanded significantly). They would be much better off in their own subdivision with schools that have more in common with each other. And there is a concern in some circles that the College Football Playoff is inadequately small at four teams. So here is what a potential realignment of FBS may look like, along with playoff expansion: Power 5 Conferences (67 teams) ACC (14) Big 12 (10) Big 10 (14) Pac-12 (12) SEC (14) Ind. (3) Army, BYU, Notre Dame Group of 5 Conferences (63 teams) AAC (11) C-USA (14) MAC (12) MWC (12) Sun Belt (10) Ind. (4) Liberty, New Mexico State, UMass-Amherst, UConn Big Eight Bowl Games Peach Fiesta Cotton Orange Rose Sugar Outback Gator P5 Playoffs 8 teams (12% of P5 teams) The 5 Conference Champions get autobids, with three at-large bids. Top four seeds host bottom four seeds in quarterfinal games (8 at 1, 7 at 2, 6 at 3, 5 at 4). Quarterfinal winners advance to P5 Semifinals (hosted by two of the Big Eight Bowl Games). Quarterfinal losers advance to two other “consolation” Big Eight Bowl Games. Semifinal winners meet for P5 National Championship. G5 Playoffs 8 teams (13% of G5 teams) The 5 Conference Champions get autobids, with three at-large bids. Top four seeds host bottom four seeds in quarterfinal games (8 at 1, 7 at 2, 6 at 3, 5 at 4). Quarterfinal winners advance to G5 Semifinals (hosted by two of the Big Eight Bowl Games). Quarterfinal losers advance to two other “consolation” Big Eight Bowl Games. Semifinal winners meet for G5 National Championship. Big Eight Bowl Games are placed into a rotation involving the P5 and G5 semifinal bowl games and the P5 and G5 “consolation” bowl games. P5 and G5 championship games are stand-alone games separate from the bowls. The other bowl games can continue operating as they do now, accepting both P5 and G5 teams. Scholarship Levels With the split of FBS into two divisions, here are some possible scholarship levels for each of the divisions (P5, G5, FCS, Division 2, Division 3). 100 – P5 80 – G5 60 – FCS 40 – Division 2 0 – Division 3 Feel free to discuss, debate or flame away!
  23. You know what's funny about Clemson? All these people talk about how they haven't beaten anybody, their conference is soft, they barely beat North Carolina, blah, blah, blah! But when it comes time to talk playoff seeding, nobody wants to play Clemson in the semifinals! Which is it, boys and girls? It cannot be both!
  24. True, but football is the ultimate team game and a game of numbers. So you need to win more than "a few here and there".
