  1. I have kept an open mind on Nokota as well. Deffinitely original. No other team has that name. It is our state horse. Also, I am with you on the shortening it to "Nokes". I mean really, how many people yelled "Go Fighting Sioux" at a UND sporting event. That was our official name and it was shortened all the time. IS it really that big of a deal that our nickname and school name would rhyme?!!
  2. Agreed. Time management at the end of the game was awful. However, the biggest key to the loss was all the missed layups we had. So many easy buckets in the first half that didn't go in. This is a game that we had and let slip away. That being said, I was impressed with the defense. We held Sac St. well below their average in points. If they can figure out the offense, we shouldn't be too bad. Also, very impressed with Shanks. He deffinitely has potential. Played great defensively blocking/altering shots. And he can make free throws!! Excited to see how good he can get. Get some meat on those bones and he could be a dominant force for us down in the post. Something this team has not had in a long time.
  3. I love both these ideas. Not sure about matte white. Does that even exist? White hemlets are no good. There is a reason that very few teams have them.
  4. So do you or don't you want a name that is hostorically tied to North Dakota??
  5. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=2628507 Sounds familiar!! After further research, I found this On March 11, 2011, it was announced that McMurry University's athletic teams would be known as the War Hawks. The new mascot was chosen after a nearly year-long search to find a new mascot to replace the former Indian mascot, which had been taken away by the NCAA in 2006. UND is going on 2+ years with no name. I sure hope we don't go the route of McMurry state and wait 5 years before the powers that be wise up and realize that no nickname is a bad idea. I really hope these committees are looking at what other schools that were forced to change their names did. I think a lot can be learned of what to do and not to do in the process.
  6. I think the team is wearing new jerseys aren't they?!
  7. So what would you rather have? Kelley and his assistants picking a new name that everyone has to live with, or having a process that involves stakeholders like fans, studenst, slumni, etc. to choose the process and then suggest ideas?!! I agree that the process seems to be dragging out. But it's better than the alternative.
  8. Not sure how we can average 15,000 tickets sold when the stadium only holds a little over 12,000!!
  9. My feed broke up after the game. What was with the scrum?
  10. Not sure why they are putting these in baseball stadiums. Maybe because they are newer than the football stadium in town? I think for stadiums like Wrigley and Fenway, it makes sense. But otherwise, football stadiums provide much better sight lines. If and When Minnesota gets an outdoor game, I hope they do it at TCF.
  11. Brad E. Schlossman @SchlossmanGF WSJ says UW has lost 4,300 season ticket holders since 2010, at least 300 per year for the last 6 years http://host.madison.com/sports/college/hockey/badgers-men-s-hockey-coach-mike-eaves-says-he-s/article_f96938a8-23ca-59cc-961f-8a6e0c4f3516.html … OUCH!!!
  12. Sure the Pairwise isn't perfect, but it is a heck of a lot better than the alternative. We could have a committee select the 16 teams!!!
  13. Can someone say March madness on steriods?!!! These 7 games would be unbelievable. And more than just an exciting bowl game like the Baylor/Mich St. game. These gam,es would have all meant something. Win and go on, lose and go home. Seriously. I really hope th ratings for the 2 playoff games are thru the roof and they can make the changes for playoff expansion soon!!
  14. Can we just get an 8 team playoff where none of the playoff games are Bowl games?!!!
  15. SO while watching the post game last night after the Bama/OSU game, I noticed something that I think needs to be changed. Now I get it that Ohio State won the Sugar Bowl, but do they need to have confetti flying, a game MVP, trophy presentation, hats, shirts, etc when they won was actually a semifinal game? Their end goal is still to win 1 more game in the National Championship. But the post game shenanigans were just a bit over the top for a semifinal game.
  16. http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/education/3644760-nickname-task-force-extends-deadline The interesting quote in this article is.. "Depending on how many names the committee is able to eliminate, another round or two of voting could occur before the committee chooses the permanent name from a list of no more than five possibilities. The group will take the public's ranking of those five possibilities into account." I sure hope they take them into consideration. You would think that if there was an overwhelming majority for 1 name that they would pick one. I really hope that all of us as "stakeholders" can rally around 1 name so their will be no doubt to this committee what name should be selected.
  17. Figured this would be a good place to put this. Can't believe no one has brought this up yet!! http://thetandd.com/sports/report-meac-to-pull-out-of-fcs-playoffs-to-compete/article_b528d464-907c-11e4-9b0b-1f350b5d41a4.html
  18. I would have to agree that this play, game, moment were one of the best in UND sports history. I was lucky enough to be in Florence at the game. I remember looking at our group that drove down after GVSU scored late to take the lead and saying that this was going to be a long drive home if we lose! That play was just simply amazing. I remember thinking they scored on that play and was wondering why they were lining up for 2 and by the time I realized that they weren't in yet for the TD, Jed was turing the corner and running into the endzone. I remember the scene on the field after the game. Everyone was hugging everyone!! It is by far my greatest sport memory and its not even close. (Side note....taking a detour on the way back through the NDSU campus driving around with my Sioux flag out the window and cheering at every person I saw walking on the sidewalk was pretty cook too!!)
  19. This a must win. Can't lose to the Cats wither time we play them. Need to win these very winnable games. If nothing else to give this team some confidense. Been a while since they won a game!!
  20. Yeah, I think they much rather prefer live mascots depicting Native Americans that are played by a white man, wearing face paint, riding a horse and throwing a spear, and leading fans in a tomohawk chop!!
  21. I don't think you can do that. When deciding a name, the powers that be will have to decide if they want to choose a name where a mascot could be created. Obviously many scools have mascots. They are fun for the kids, and entertain the fans, as well as make appearences throughout the community. When coming up with a new name, they will absolutely have to factor in the issue of a mascot.
  22. What baffles me is there are people, many on this board, who think that if the committee narrows the list down to 2 or three names, that Kelley is going to just pick one of his own. There is zer chance that is going to happen. Many people think this committee to decide the process is all a front and Kelley will do whatever he wants. Why would he do that? Why waste the time of thousands of alumni filling out surveys, having townhall meetings, and having hours upon hours coming up with a process and then even more time deciding a new name and implementing it if Kelley is just going to pick one? Do you think that he wants that to be his legacy at UND? To pick a new name that nobody wants? Come on people! Just let the process fo through and see what comes up.
