Hence the @SIOUXFAN97 comment with the phone call answering phrase “hello, you’ve reached the home of UND hockey”. It’s a running joke, but it’s also reality… there isn’t a division one university in the country that features college hockey as its premiere sport that is also able to yield a super competitive D1 football program. UND doesn’t appear to be the exception … yet…

NFL players is a single metric that does not always indicate collegiate team success. I will say, the bottom teams in the MVFC are a lot worse than the bottom teams in the MAC, so that also skews those numbers you provided. The top teams in the MVFC - as you already stated - are better than the top teams in the MAC. 2025 UND (and beyond) will join the other 3 Dakota schools as that elite MVFC group that compares to the top of MAC. Why care about 2024 UND rankings?… as the 2024 UND team was a disaster and a very low bar given they had a losing record, lost 5 in a row, AND now have entirely new facilities, coaches, NIL initiatives, and even many new players. It’s apples to oranges comparing 2024 UND to 2025 UND football. But, keep cherry picking stats to prove your faulty argument… rather than @NDRA you should be the MAC-MAN or something catchy like that. Ultimately, I don’t buy it in the slightest that the MAC is better than the MVFC, especially when factoring in the quality of play and football investment within the Dakotas. Also, head to head (MVFC vs MAC) play means something also …

Right, because positioning never changes in college football? There’s been more movement of late than your comments suggest. The Sagarin figures prove my point. The top 3 programs in the MVFC *in 2024* are upper MAC category… and now here comes the ascension of UND football right on cue. The Dakota schools (all four of them) are “upper MAC category”. MVFC is just as good as the MAC. C’mon @NDRA you trying too hard. Ultimately, some won’t be satisfied until the proof is in the pudding. That’s fine … eventually you’ll see.

Fair, but you also aren’t going to win games 14-10 in 2025. This isn’t 2001 or earlier. In this day and age, you need to be able to score. UND’s 2024 offense was very mediocre (if not blatantly poor) against the good teams on their schedule, and the results versus teams like Murray State inflated the overall season stats. Ultimately, my point is that Romfo certainly did not overly impress at the QB position in 2024, but also, fortunately, the 2025 offense has the pieces to in fact improve drastically….
-
He’s a good local kid, and obviously he’s a good practice QB, but proof is in the pudding: not a good long-term in-game QB. Whoever gets the nod, wish them all the success in the world. And the back-up QB is pretty darn important too…

I disagree. Would recommend they pick someone (best performer in fall camp, ideally someone with 2 years + so either JTJ or Jerry), let him take his lumps early, but grow and let his confidence develop. Do not falter. Stay committed. If you play musical chairs with QBs it rarely ends well. Championship teams just historically don’t operate that way either. Fortunately, based on how persistent Fruechte was with keeping Simon in last year, I’m confident he will do this with whomever of the 3 he chooses, for which I agree. Of course, that’s just my 2 cents. If they go with a 2 or 3 QB system and win, I’d be all for it, but I doubt they’d be successful with that. Again, if you have 2 QBs, you have none. @UNDvince97-01 said something along these lines earlier. Pick someone, coach ‘em up and stay committed to him, and see where he grows over a 2+ year period. Based on all of the above, I’m sure you can imagine who I want to start. “Rome wasn’t built in a day” … I want the guy with the highest ceiling & the most potential to get the nod, and see if we can reach that potential over a multi-game, multi-year relationship. The issue with Simon is, despite UND being committed to him all of last year, he had a low ceiling (as you said) so it didn’t matter they were committed to him. UND now has higher ceiling players to consider, and I think it would be best for UND football overall to coach and develop those high ceiling guys to try and reach that potential.

The Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) - despite being FCS - is an on par if not better conference than the “FBS” Mid-American Conference (MAC). Who wants to play on Tuesday nights? What a joke Who wants to go 7-5 and play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl versus playing playoff football and competing for a national championship in January? Everyone keeps recruiting and commitments don’t mean much anymore, but UND football is certainly the same level as these MAC schools … Would hope the prospective student-athletes can see that. Many already have (look at the list, folks). Ultimately, recruiting never stops …

Qb development … long run of it there Be nice to start seeing UND develop some studs it’ll happen
-
It is a must. I’m optimistic…
-
How much does UND go up in the polls when they beat them?

I don’t think we should want to see any quarterbacks get “worked in” unless the season goes awful. Ideally, the QB situation goes like what Schmidt saw with Kalen DeBoer when he was with him from 2020-2023 (Fresno State- Jake Haener, Washington- Michael Penix). Of course, Schmidt saw a not ideal QB situation in 2024 with San Diego State and the W-L record there indicated that. Even Fruechte and Schmidt have said publicly they want someone to grab ahold of this thing. Need a stud QB for UND to grab the reins and not look back… as of now, not sure that has happened …. Y’all know the saying "if you have two quarterbacks, you have none" is a common football adage, often attributed to the legendary coach John Madden…
-
Bubba can handle it and deserved it. Also, not sure there was much of a swipe to begin with. it’s all good now.
-
@geaux_sioux is correct. UND and Schmidt were trying to figure this out going back to even 2014. 3rd down is indeed the money down … Hopefully we now have some better answers with new scheme, better players, and new defensive staff ….
-
Although I have more goals for UND football then it becoming a farm program for coaches, I definitely agree that it becoming a stepping stone will mean UND football has ascended. I definitely think UND football is going to become a destination (already sorta has to a degree)….
-
UND football has had, on paper, possibly its best off-season ever. Considering that, and with a game not even being played yet, how can you be critical of Coach Schmidt by commenting “spend more time looking in the mirror and spend less time talking about the ‘last regime’” ? first of all, he has not been spending much time talking about the “last regime” … only spending his time working and actually improving this thing secondly, the last regime deserves criticism … UND football sucked in 2024. UND football won’t suck in 2025 and beyond …
-
I expect this team will be competing for conference titles soon, perhaps as soon as this year. MVFC is simply top heavy, mainly due to a program in Fargo that everyone should despise due to its out of control “fan base” as much as anything. It must be destroyed, and Schmidt is clearly the right man for the job here at UND. New ideas, new schemes, new staff, all timed along with new commitments and new facilities. Enjoy the ride. As for QB and offense, this is the first season that Fruechte gets at UND with guys he recruited (at least via transfer portal). I expect a big jump. And there clearly is a certain advantage deploying a QB that can run if they can do other things well also (make good decisions, be accurate, be a leader, etc.), and it is okay to simply come out and say that philosophically.
-
Agreed, and if that means the only thing we got to b*tch about on this forum is too many practice fights, then it will be a net gain for the program. Team is toughening up one conflict at a time.
-
All apart of the process. Gotta toughen up to start getting in trench fights with the big boys
-
There’s a fire, there’s more nastiness, line didn’t get crossed “too much”. It is all good. No conspiracy but not a single name dropped? It’s more b.s. than legitimacy…
-
Of course - goes without saying. There’s a method to the madness.
-
The word “plenty” has been used and there has been plenty of hyperbole with this whole injury thing. Some people are too bored for their own good. Things are going fine. Better than fine, actually. Camp fights are as per usual for decades, with exception of no more overly friendly teams that couldn’t win on the road. If that means “more” fights, so be it. Gotta toughen up. With that said, there’s a line you don’t cross.
-
That is Miller’s opinion, but it is also taken out of context. This concept that UND is accumulating “plenty of injuries” at practice due to fighting is unjustified garbage, but you can interpret the Miller posts however you want.
-
Definitely taken out of context. Did he specifically mention injured players due to the “fighting”? I didn’t think so …
-
You hit the nail on the head here. This is the name of the game in college football now, especially FCS
-
This is not validated and is a perfect example of conspiracy b.s. that now everyone will latch on to as fact (as evidenced by the string of comments on here). Nice guys don’t usually finish first; things are going just fine. Injuries are a part of the game unfortunately. The nice guy mentality that Bubba formerly ran practice with was not getting it done… trying the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is…. With all that said, there is a line you don’t cross. You can’t have all out brawls within your team. In summary, everyone step away from the ledge. Things are going fine. Better than fine, actually.
