UND has historically been tone deaf when it comes to being engaging with the Alerus atmosphere. A night game with an outdoor concert is a nice touch, but what you do inside the building (both entertainment/music/presentation and on the field product) is still the most important. We’ll see if 2024 is any different, but based on how staffing has been handled, I won’t hold my breath. I’m just hoping for a good football game and a UND victory, anything else is just extra.

Even if I did, sharing that anonymously on a message board would solve what exactly? No motive to do that whatsoever, unless it would lead to instant solutions via fallout.

I’m good. My opinion is clear. You may not like it, but I’m not going to be threatened by “accusation” rebuttals. Plenty are sick and tired of Bubba’s hollow leadership, so embrace it and come to terms with reality. Oh, and stop throwing accusation threats against the wall.
-
It was hyperbole to get across a point; I’m not making actual corruption claims, but I think there’s plenty of evidence to suggest Bubba is not a good to great division I head football coach and UND could do better. Furthermore, ongoing extensions for the status quo have been beyond frustrating for those who care about winning. Regardless, no way Bubba Schweigert is terminated; he’ll be allowed to leave on his own terms (unfortunately). For the sake of UND football, hopefully it is soon.

@SIOUX29 @SooToo The truth hurts … I understand the personal connections are present and make it hard.

Big opportunity. Need to win the line of scrimmage, capitalize in the red zone when on offense, and win the turnover battle. Certainly possible for UND to pull out the win given their history in the Alerus.
-
Agree completely. Yet we’ve got people around the program (and unfortunately some of them in decision-making capacity) more interested in advancing the individual interests of Bubba (and extending him) rather than doing what’s best for the numerous student-athletes and alumni. Ridiculous. Bubba should run for political office with this level of corruption and self-interest …

Completely agree. When your game management decisions are conservative and illogical, it sends a message to your players that you’re playing for a moral victory. Been an issue in every single big game that Bubba’s teams play in. So hard to support UND football hardcore with Bubba’s petty leadership. You just simply can’t have grand expectations for this football program until there’s change, and some don’t want to (or can’t) wait forever.
-
Completely agree. Punting from the 38, going to half with timeouts, kicking fields goals in the 4th quarter when you need multiple scores. Hell even the field goal in the 2nd quarter after a 20+ plus play drive is questionable. The thing is that these actions all send messages to your team indirectly; it states were just here for a moral victory and to play it close, but we don’t expect to win. It is why Bubba’s teams consistently are capped at mediocrity. I’m hopeful for the season to go okay, but it will never be more than 7-5 and first round playoff exit, despite what Coach Fruechte and Olson bring to this program, because of Bubba. He’s not a good head coach at this level, period. As stated before, until everyone agrees Bubba is the problem, or until he retires, we can’t move UND football forward.

Please, no to the moral victories.

Iowa State only had the ball four times in the first half, but scored on 2 of the 4 (50%): 14 points total, including scoring on the first drive in just two plays. Second half Iowa State only had the ball three times, scored one of the three, but were playing very conservative to end the game. The UND defense has plenty of work to do. With that said, the offense and special teams does too. Special teams with kicks out of bounds and missed field goal. The offense’s ability to run the ball and limit possessions was key to why the score was down (UND had a 23 play, 88 yard, 12+ minute drive!-but only 3 points), but they definitely need to improve in the red zone. It’s crucial - need touchdowns, not field goals. Game would have been different if UND offense got in the endzone when in the redzone. Need to tidy that up, but this was Romfo’s first start, it will get better. I’m optimistic for a solid outing in the Alerus versus the Griz on 9/7. Need to get the running game rolling again, capitalize in the red zone, and hit on the open passes when presented. Overall, given the importance of the defensive and offensive lines, I think we should be somewhat optimistic. UND’s offensive line, sans a couple pass protection opportunities, played very well and was a positive surprise. Defensive front stopped the run quite well, also, just couldn’t defend well on the back end. Things to look forward to, for sure.

Time of possession. Iowa State was scoring at will, UND just limited their possessions. It would have worked in terms of winning (which should be the only thing that matters) if UND would have converted in the red zone.
-
Disagree. Defense was giving up scores no matter who UND played at QB
-
Doesn’t look like any of the QBs have a great arm. It is what it is. Need to recruit better. Romfo still won’t be able to throw no matter who the opponent is; difference could be that UND’s running game could be more effective at home versus Montana and receivers could be running open versus lesser DBs. But Montana is no slouch… they got talent, just not Iowa State level talent.
-
When we finally all agree that Bubba is sh*t then there’s a chance UND football can move forward ….
-
I agree! I think it will for a few games, particularly those with lesser lines than Iowa State, of which there are plenty on UND’s schedule.
-
I do trust the coaches who actually evaluate the quarterbacks in person. This idea that Feeney and Kaminiski were going to be really good was pure speculation and hope; no substance to any of it.
-
Time of possession. Iowa State could’ve scored 50+ if given the opportunity.
-
Pretty much. What did everyone expect with a Bubba extension? Mediocrity U is alive and well.
-
10 too many
-
He can run. And he’s a gamer. He has kept drives alive with his mobility, but yes, he can’t throw.
-
Kicker still sucks too. have a ground and pound mentality, but … don’t have a passer don’t have a defensive secondary don’t have a kicker don't have a head coach with balls well, looks like a another bubba ball moral victory campaign … best we can hope for is 6-6 or 7-5
-
The UND defensive backs were significantly outmatched out on the perimeter all game … unfortunately. Didn’t stand a chance.
-
Well, game over.
-
Case in point, und secondary still suspect.
