  1. You’re right that there is a ton of transition and opportunities right now, so UND sitting back and being patient is likely a very good move right now. Can’t be too complacent, but strategic patience is probably going to payoff given the roster limits, coaching transitions, and number of portal entries. UND needs to do better with its coaching salaries, and that comes back to all the alumni and fans - including those typing on here. Need to do better, give what you can if you truly care about UND football, and advocate for it when you see or meet with anyone from UND with decision-making responsibilities.
  2. No, and I didn’t type that. I’ll let you break all the news, don’t worry, but the HC is not going to be the titled DC, so that stands.
  3. Eric Schmidt is not going to be both a defensive coordinator and a defensive play-caller, all while dealing with head coach responsibilities. There will be a new yet very capable defensive coordinator in place in due time. Patience, patience, patience.
  4. Unlikely. Three defensive coaching positions are open, once those are filled, one of the three likely will be named defensive coordinator in addition to specific position responsibilities.
  5. This young man was recruited to the University of Southern California because he obviously has the tools to be successful, just perhaps needs a change in scenery. Kaminksi and Feeney don’t quite have those tools, based on their relative lack of recruiting interest, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be successful at UND or the DI level. All in all, no reason not to be excited for a transfer from a Power 4 conference, and no reason to rule out lesser recruited under the radar types. They’re all good prospects that need the proper coaching and the proper supporting cast to be successful, and at the end of the day, with quarterbacks, you sometimes either have it or you don’t.
  6. Defense needs to be much improved across the board at all positions. Good news it is in progress, with transfer portal and soon to be opening new weight room. As Coach Schmidt says, the work works.
  7. *Need* to upgrade the QB position. How that is done is still a work in progress. Most important position in sports is QB, but* the offensive line and defensive front are the most important position groups …
  8. Need additions, for sure, but also nearly as important is the fact UND is retaining nearly everyone. No implosion at UND thus far; instead, at this early juncture under Schmidt, been nothing but growth and excitement. Need to keep it rolling.
  9. I hope so. I think you might be right. SDSU looked good.
  10. Which is why it is has been inexcusable that UND has not been in the conversation. That’s all about to change. Thank God for Coach Schmidt and admin’s revamped commitment to the football program. More work to do though ………
  11. Montana State is the real deal. Hope they beat NDSU in Frisco when/if they meet …
  12. “Bison fan masquerading as national media”…. My favorite description of this guy. Credit to @UND1983.

  14. He just gets it. It’s about confidence, mojo, and swagger - like he said in press conference - more than anything, and the injection of that that this program and fan base is getting and will get is quite incredible.
  15. Much like the coaching search, this all comes back to who’s interested. It’s all relative to the field. There will be some retention, but there also inevitably needs to be an infusion of some new talent that knows the way, the DeBoer way, and to recruit the west coast.
  16. It was a good one. He’s our guy. https://www.inforum.com/sports/hot-mic-interview-new-und-football-coach-eric-schmidt-on-taking-over-in-grand-forks
  17. The way I understand it is schools and conferences in the FCS can opt out of the new model if they choose not to share revenue with athletes. If sharing revenue, then 105 limit also applies to FCS school.
  18. There are a ton of complexities now with recruiting, as you can consider high school student-athletes, JUCO, and portal transfers. A lot goes into who to offer, when to offer, how to offer, and how to coordinate and execute the official visits in an efficient manner. The programs that do this the best have a leg up in recruiting. One of the ways to do it the best is to have a dedicated recruiting coordinator, not just a position coach that spends part-time coaching current players and part-time organizing recruiting. Recruiting is the lifeblood of your program, so emphasizing all avenues for recruiting excellence is incredibly important.
  19. I drove down University Ave. and Columbia Rd this morning and I smelt a new aroma of excellence coming from the Hyslop at Memorial Village! Big things are comin’ !!! Expect new coaches that know a winning culture and attitude. Some retention will be there.
  20. Get ready for the ride everyone. Buy your tickets. Contribute to the NIL collective and the University. Lots of fun about to happen …
  21. As said, best time EVER to be a football player at THE University of North Dakota. Flagship.
  22. Well, it is different now than the 1970s, correct? I agree. It’s what DeBoer and Schmidt did at Washington when they got there in 2022, and look how that went. Relative to other FCS schools, UND can offer elite opportunities for transfer candidates. Attack the portal. Everyone help our prospects and contact 1883 NIL collective, give what you can.
  23. <Running through wall> Let’s ******* Go!
  24. Expect to win championships.
  25. New coaches. New players. An attack culture and the confidence to win over the Dakotas.
