  1. I just want enough points to win games. Pure spread or not, it’ll likely be an improvement over Rudolph’s archaic !@#$. Expect some spread tempo with all the associated concepts.
  2. That’s how UND is going to score points and win games next year. Spread it around and let the boys make plays. Definite improvement over the system Rudolph ran.
  3. My preference was an outside hire. UND has been average at best during the time Freund has been an assistant coach at UND. Still hoping for external hires at OL and WR coach. Now that Freund has been hired, let’s move forward and hope for the best. Or do you expect me to hope my alma mater loses every game? Of course not.
  4. It’s not about just the run game, it’s about the offense as a whole and scoring enough points to win, obviously.
  5. I’d argue the issues (principally poor QB coaching and play) became apparent game 1. Mississippi Valley State - horrible FCS team in the Alerus Center and UND struggles to score 35 points, most of which came in the first half which started a horrible trend of second half lack-of-production for the entire season. UND needed to put up way more than 35 against MVSU. Against Washington the following week, UND’s defense had them in the game allowing only 17 points in the first 3 quarters. Yet, the offense couldn’t gain momentum. The offense simplistically handed the ball off to Santiago over and over again, which, although it padded his stat line, never allowed for quality UND QB play which would’ve got UND in the game and actually worried Washington about an upset. The UND offense followed suit the rest of the season. This is why I love what Freund is at least saying early on. If the starting QB never gets into a rhythm and gains momentum, it doesn’t matter how many good running-backs you have. Without a purely dominant offensive line, which UND clearly doesn’t have yet, offensive production runs through the rhythm of the QB. Whether it’s Ketteringham, Zimmerman, Boltman, or someone else, the UND offense in ‘19 needs to do whatever necessary to bring momentum back to the QB spot. Love the idea of tempo, quick perimeter passes, and an increased volume of deep shots. Despite common perception, tempo and perimeter passes will actually open up the middle for nice runs by Johannesson and Weah. Looking forward to it.
  6. I hope it's a win-win. I expect it to definitely be a more entertaining brand of offensive football, but I also hope that it equates to more points and more wins. In addition to QB play, also depends on how the offensive line develops. Next big hire?
  7. If I recall correctly ... I'm sure @shep is going to really miss Paul Rudolph's (aka Uncle Paul's) beautiful offense ...
  8. Points - not TOP - and wins will bring in the crowd. I expect points with Freund. Go UND!
  9. Complex in the huddle, simplistic on the field. Was not a good combination for the UND offense. Given what UND currently has for players, the scheme that Freund is going to is perfect for UND. I think it’s the right move and we’ll see points.
  10. Height issue is more of an NFL thing. There are countless examples of 5’10” to 6’0” All-American QBs in college football - just need the right system.
  11. UND needs to do better against NDSU, whether they're ranked #1 or #111. The 2015 offensive showing for UND was embarrassing. UND played with their tail between their legs after the 1st quarter, just happy to have 3 points. Didn’t help the offensive gameplan looked equally as bad that game. Be aggressive. Go for a program changing victory.
  12. Let’s not limit UND’s potential before even the first snap of the 2019 season. I don’t think the NDSU game will completely define Freund as OC, but it could have some effect if things go well. Sure, Vegas and Fargo will pick NDSU to win, but why can’t the folks in the UND locker room expect a program changing victory? I for one want exagerated expectations; great things don’t happen without them. Ask any great innovator.
  13. This is troubling. Many who follow the program closely were asking for Rudolph to be dismissed last season. The fact that Bubba couldn’t see it and kept UND’s offense in a state of despair for an extra season is inexcusable. Bubba screwed up on that one, big time. Hopefully Freund can save his ass moving forward.
  14. The fact that Freund says the offense will utilize the strengths of the players available is, well, positive, but the fact that it is being received so well just proves how dysfunctional the previous offensive systems were. QUOTE: “ ... the system will be about the strengths of the players in the program.”
  15. Such novel concepts relative to the previous offenses under Rudolph! I’m looking forward to the new offense. I love that Freund said the offense is centered around the QB play - that is so important. QUOTE: “I think you have to build it around the quarterback,” Freund said. “We want to be an attacking-style team that utilizes different tempos. I think you’ll see us get the ball on the perimeter a little more, getting the ball in space and out of the quarterback’s hands. I think it’s important to take shots, too. Explosive plays give you momentum and you don’t have to go 12, 15 plays.” http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/football/4533926-und-elevates-freund-offensive-coordinator#.W_tsFX493KA.twitter
  16. Offense has A LOT of experience returning for 2019. Freund is familiar with that experience and should have new ideas on what to do with it. We’ll ultimately see if those ideas improve the UND offense or not.
  17. The who else offered crowd has a fair point. Not every player with only 1 offer is simply “under the radar”. I’m always happy to see a well recognized and recruited player commit to UND, as should everyone else who cheers for UND football.
  18. Knauf was an issue as a football coach; thus, he got fired. Move along.
  19. Credential checkpoint time again? Always got to love when this subject makes its annual appearance on this forum. Emphasis on the post content.
  20. His post isn’t going in the newspaper either. Let’s not be overly sensitive. There’s a balance, here
  21. This is over simplified. Weight development of current offensive linemen is a key component to getting better at offensive line. Another huge factor to keep an eye on is offensive coordinator and offensive line coach hires. Will UND be a predominant zone or man team? I think UND’s current guys may be better suited for a zone scheme. Let’s see.
  22. Good point. We’ll see. Still hoping an external candidate with a strong quality of ingenuity applies.
  23. Very nice to see a flip from a MVFC program to UND. Good for UND football.
  24. Strength and conditioning is in absolute factor to injury prevention. Certain types of injuries, like the well publicized head injuries, are not as affected as others, obviously. But, in general, strength and conditioning improves outcomes. UND could definitely improve it’s strength and conditioning program for football.
  25. Anything in Fargo will be a slaughter. NDSU is loaded. I’ll take them over the entire 2018 FCS playoff field. Thank God UND plays them early next season and not this year.
