  1. Hence the firing of his now former OC and offensive line coach. Any amount of confidence in your offense would mean keep them out there on that particular 4th down; Bubba did not have such confidence and rightfully so.

    2019 Season

Don't know final 2019 roster nor offensive coordinator yet so I'd say it's far too early to predict. But it is interesting I suppose to try guess.

    2019 Season

Major defensive question mark: How will 2 senior starting defensive linemen be replaced with additional question regarding nose guard depth? Major offensive question mark: WHO IS THE NEW OC AND WHAT IS THE STYLE OF OFFENSE/PLAN? Major special team question mark: Will K Brady Leach improve and will another kicker be brought in to compete?
  4. Agreed.
  5. These were the correct decisions. I think Bubba and Schmidt can build a championship defense. The offense, with QB and offensive line being the most disappointing positions, was not even close to an average level from '14 - '18, unfortunately. These were the right moves to make but now let's see who the replacements are - that is very critical. I like how Bubba recognizes and addresses the recruiting and depth concerns. This obviously needs to improve, and since he mentioned it, I now expect it to improve. Add it to the objectives for next season. AREAS NEEDING TO IMPROVE: 1) QB play 2) offensive line play 3) offensive play-calling and scheme 4) Punt Protection 5) Field Goals and Kickoff 6) Recruiting and Depth (namely offensive line, wide receiver, and now running back and defensive line).
  6. Good points. I'm sure the TEs will be used more; they can't be used less.
  7. Yeah, credit to all those who asked for the dismissal a year ago. You were right.
  8. These two changes needed to be made, at a minimum. This is only half of the process: now comes the all important hires to replace them. Need coaches with a SUCCESSFUL history as an offensive coordinator/QB coach and offensive line coach. Can’t take anymore chances or risks with these hires. And now, I wish Paul Rudolph and Luke Knauf the best moving forward. These dismissals have nothing to do with their character as men; this is strictly a football move and we should all know that.
  9. Absolutely. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: #1 issue throughout all 5 years of Bubba Ball has been QB play. It hasn’t been good enough.
  10. Not sure on this. Would be the lazy way to go about it I’m afraid. No one on this staff has definitively shown they deserve promotion. Just my take on the matter. I want new ideas from an outside mind.
  11. This is a genius analysis. Very well done!
  12. Per usual, Midco’s Alex Heinert will likely be very politically correct with the interview so I doubt the podcast will be worth much.
  13. No development with this QB coaching staff.
  14. Yeah, that sequence of games right there demonstrated offensive ineptitude by UND. UND only scored 10 offensive points at home against Portland State. UND’s passing game and QB play has been below average to terrible during all 5 of Bubba’s years as head coach. You can’t win like that unless the running game is well above average, which for UND, unfortunately, it is not. Many times this season UND’s patented running game stalled in key situations against poor teams (Idaho State, Idaho, Northern Arizona, etc.).
  15. I am very disappointed another university’s fan could notice UND’s lack of energy and enthusiasm. The guys weren’t ready to play in a huge game for UND football. That’s very, very disappointing. UND would be in the playoffs if they could’ve just focused, which is supposedly the very mantra of Bubba Scheweigert’s coaching style.
  16. Would you like to explain the regression from 2016 to present? UND football has gotten worse over the past couple seasons, not better. The depth issue is inherent of the coaching. The coaches recruit and place the players in their respective positions, both on the depth chart and on the field. As for top FCS team, I don’t agree. Are you saying top 30 team? Because then I suppose I agree with you but that won’t mean playoffs, which at the University of North Dakota should mean failure. Don’t blame NDSU’s success for UND’s failures. Like you said, UND easily could’ve won a few more games this season with simply more competent quarterback and special teams play. Lastly, I don’t agree with you that one shouldn’t change coaches if it’s not working. College football has a well established record of quick turnarounds if the right coach with the right culture to be instilled is hired. Right now UND is not a confident nor well coached bunch. Whether us as friends of Bubba want to admit it or not, Bubba’s squad was unprepared and lazy at times. They were out of position on offense and rarely forced the defense out of position with QB coaching, scheme, tempo, timely aggression, etc. The punt protection scheme cost UND games AGAIN this season. North Dakota nice says allow the coaches as much time as they want here. Division I football logic says you need to win games or else you will be forgotten, including by your own fan base. UND football will be in a tough place next year if potential changes - which should be viewed as an opportunity to improve - are neglected. UND football continues to fail the eye test because, well, they just aren’t a championship-coached program right now. You are what your record says you are: UND is an AVERAGE 6-win FCS team, certainly not championship (conference or national) caliber. Are we okay with average at UND? Go UND!
  17. Yes, they are both poor head coaches but decent coordinators.
  18. These coaches aren’t capable of said work, unfortunately. Some things - whether we like it or not - do require talent and they just do not have that talent/ability.
  19. This is the current state of reality, unfortunately.
  20. ? This seems misplaced.
  21. UND and NDSU have similar offensive styles but have different schemes and play-calling. Watch and compare the film. No question NDSU also has more talented players, but NDSU runs and calls a legitimate offense. Rudolph’s formations, play calls, and nuances in coaching (particularly with the QBs in pass reads) are all very amateur and poorly done.
  22. Current UND football coaching philosophy: Forget the scoreboard, we won the time of possession. Excellent synopsis. Points Bubba, UND football needs actual scoreboard points!

    Wtf

It’s important to consider the sequence of recent events in the context of division I FCS football. Do not relate this to high school football, the NFL, or even division I FBS football; the process needs to be done justice this way and correctly analyzed. With all that said, I believe the direction and leadership of UND football is lacking. Although very subjective, the “eye test” often works for those who have watched their fair share of football games over the years. UND football currently does not pass the “eye test”. There is unmotivated, lackadaisical body language and poor football scheme out on the field. I think the contract situation will unfortunately prevent wholesale change, but Mr. Chaves and the head football coach need to get some things changed because it’s obviously not working as is - very obvious .
  24. Well, I doubt an offer of $205k would be made. It likely won’t happen this year, unfortunately, but when Chaves hires his guy for head coach it will come with a higher base salary than $205k. I imagine something around $300k would be the offer, which even your beloved NDSU coordinators would likely strongly consider.
  25. This is somewhat reassuring. I was worried a false identity was about to run rampant.
