  1. Congrats to Devil's Lake and Abrahamson, Olson and the entire team for punching their ticket to the Girls state tournament. If my math is correct (and I hate math)....Minot, Jamestown and Dickinson are mathematically eliminated from the state tournament on the girls side. Legacy-Bismarck, Century and Williston will battle for the last 2 spots. L/B has 23 points. Century 22. Williston 21. Willy has dickinson left. L/B and CHS have DL and Davies...going to come down to the last day if Williston holds on to beat Dickinson Friday.
  2. I think you could still get away with Rube's proposal...just one bye in the east and 2 in the west. Now how that gets bracketed, who knows. Worst part about girls hockey is lack of non conference games. I think most teams had 2 this year. Next year 1, no 6 point games. Hard to take chances and groom kids when every game has a state implication and no wda/edc.
  3. I think there's 7 west and 5 east but I like the concept.
  4. Girls action tonight: every bubble team in action: mandan at minot. Minot needs. Win. legacy at Williston both need a win. Devils lake at Jamestown. Both need a win. Dickinson at CHS. Both need a win. essentially a state tournament night.
  5. I'm guessing if Bismarck could host 3 boys and 2 girls, WF could do the same. The youth programs mirror each other pretty closely. Does it thin out the heard? Yes. As you can see for the second year in a row both Bismarck girls teams will need to rally to make state. CHS and LHS remain competitive in boys and I believe if they stick it out on the south end the program will bounce back. Hardest thing to understand for all of us who are competitive is HS sports are designed for participation first. Winning is secondary, or even further down. Once one gets to that point it makes it a little easier to swallow.
  6. Rumors of everyone quitting and the program folding.
  7. Bottineau says they aren't allowed to broadcast their feed tonight due to NDHSAA rights. Not sure how Williston is able too but glad they are, gives us something to watch.
  8. Minot had the home ice 11 am game last year as well.
  9. Monday WDA watching (unless PSP goes up there)... Hazen at Bottineau: https://www.youtube.com/@BravesHockey Bottineau usually has their games here. No sounds, so it's weird, but it's a decent feed. BHS at Williston: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100095364830211 Good facebook page that has popped up for live events, with announcers. Wish more schools would do this. 7 PM puck drop. Besides saying "travel" am I the only one that finds it odd the WDA and EDC have different formats? They do this in other sports as well. Seems strange....
  10. Going to fun to follow Seeley to Concordia. I saw Ackerman just committed to Minot State and Sorlie is going to Arizona acha I believe. Good stuff… final week of girls regular season. The bottom 6-8 is an absolute dog fight. There’s so many possibilities it’s impossible to make up. I think Dickinson is the only team that doesn’t have a mathematical chance to qualify… Minot came out of nowhere to put themselves right there. Both Bismarck teams are gonna need points this week. DL, Jamestown Williston all right there…gong show. Edit: I lied Dickinson is still mathematically in it with 3 games this week. They took 6 points off Davies yesterday.
  11. I was bored. And I just "quoted" myself. Seems like a violation of sorts... Only 5 games have ended in run time this year in girls hockey. 4 of them have involved Dickinson, who is currently in the final spot in the standings...and 2 of those included Abrahamson lighting up the scoreboard. That's a pretty wild stat IMO. The depth of the state has drastically improved in the last 10 years there's no question.
  12. I can see that for a number of reasons. First being the parity in the league. The gap has definitely closed from 12 to 1. Id be curious to see how many run time games there were this year. It has to be very few. good for nd hockey overall but not good enough from keeping high end talent in state unfortunately. I watched Warroad v Lakeville on hockey day and it’s just a huge difference.
  13. We can do it here for no charge lol
  14. Alright who is doing this? https://ndhockeyprospects.com/ $15 a month subscription. Power rankings, player rankings, player "reports"....ummm...interesting.
  15. OK now this makes sense. Went to UM and I believe also ended up at UND.
  16. Gotta love WF and Sheyenne as last game of the season. RR and Central, North v South would be awesome final games as well. I believe the West is about set, if I'm not mistaken. CHS, Legacy, Minot, Mandan, Dickinson, Jamestown, Willy, Bottineau, Hazen, BHS. Willy v BHS playin. Bottineau v Hazen playin. The question for each side will be, where are the upsets gonna fall....
  17. Tight checking game. Took Legacy a half a game to get moving then I thought they played better. 18 for WF Sheyenne is a great player. Sheyenne played a very good defensive game limiting LHS top guns, especially on the PK. Could've done without the potential season ending injury to the senior captain (D man), but fully understand that can happen in hockey. Seems like there are always upsets come regionals. I also agree to those above, the West has an opportunity to make it to a Friday night game. I think the "stigma" might be a huge hurdle. Legacy and Century were close last year (double OT and a one goal loss). Hard to believe there's only 3 weeks left of the season.
  18. CHS proved last night they are the best team in the West. Ole has done a great job with this group. Speed up front is tough to deal with, and they have converted some forwards to defense out of necessity. One loss in the WDA this season. Legacy will head east to South on Friday (just scheduled, both teams lost a game due to weather this year) and Sheyenne Saturday. Good road test 2 weeks out of the WDA tournament.
  19. Yeah Olson can get her the puck. I can't remember if she is going to a MIAC school or one in Wisconsin. When she gets the puck Ashlynn finds space and it's over...I wonder how many of her goals actually start from Olson gaining possession in the D zone and finding her in space.
  20. Yeah everyone's a bit different. Some want the label. Others like your family take in more important factors like playing time, accessibility to home, school, etc.
  21. She is committed to Hamline, which is a darn good MIAC program. I am surprised the Bemidji State's of the world didn't come knocking...which is why I brough up the earlier point about girls staying or leaving. I wonder if she's got some of that "ND Hockey Player" hovering over her. Or maybe MIAC is what she wanted? Who knows....women's hockey is a completely different recruiting animal without an opportunity to play juniors, or make the show amongst many other things.
  22. 35 Goals in 16 games so far for Abrahamson for the DL girls team. Would be fantastic for them to make state to put her on display. Was having a conversation this weekend (started with hockey day in MN talk) about Girls hockey in ND. Does anyone have an idea of how many girls have played in North Dakota all the way through their senior season and made a D1 roster? Curl x 2. I believe a Sandoval from WF played all the way through and played out East somewhere. After that, it was a struggle to come up with names. Bartz would've made it regardless, but she took off for a season anyway, probably Kirkeby from Jamestown as well. Curious of any others that have stayed in state and made a D1 roster?
  23. Sounds like it goes to GFC this year.
  24. Ya I don't want them going nowhere they are awesome. Nothing wrong with a little self reflection once in awhile. Make it tough when it's an intense game on the guy on the color is also a parent.
