  1. So, as long as the NCAA will not let UND host football playoff games, maybe the Sioux should re-examine FBS and the WAC. Bowl games are not under the control of the NCAA, the WAC is still desperately in need of help to survive, football would have to move back to an expanded Memorial Stadium (at least for early season games) and the Sioux could effectively thumb their noses at the PC crowd at the NCAA. Not advocatin' (still think the Big Sky will have a better reputation going forward than the WAC), just ponderin'...
  2. If Dr Kelly decides, don't count on "Fighting" to be part of the name...
  3. the phrase "transparent and inclusive" has an eerie ring to it. haven't we heard that before?
  4. not that this is the only way to address this issue with your senator, bringing up the referendum idea...
  5. and there would never be another party like that if the nickname changed?
  6. Realizing, of course, that they may not have any Native American bloodlines, all 4 of the Representatives that represent the Spirit Lake and Standing Rock legislative districts voted FOR the retention of the Fighting Sioux nickname.
  7. On the other hand, they were a very good football program that has not been able to get out of the bottom half of the Big Sky standings. The Sioux football program has their work cut out for them, as do the BB teams.
  8. Unfortunately, the more you contain the spring melt runoff, the higher the contained water must rise. Add that to the other things mentioned here and the fact that the Red tries to flow north into still frozen rivers and lakes and the flood control dikes will continue to need to go up. Could be even worse when Devils Lake finally breaks out of its containment and goes into the Sheyenne basin.
  9. from a GF Herald article on removing Fighting Sioux logos from REA
  10. Good comment from former Gov. Olson in this article
  11. The fans may consider only Montana to be a peer, but I would be willing to wager that the administration would also consider Montana State, maybe Idaho State, and yes, North Dakota to be peers. That said, I agree that there is very little possibility that Idaho will return to the Big Sky.
  12. I still think this is the best idea that has been proposed. Well thought out and would give UND and the AG some beef in front of the NCAA. Anyone with a legislator's ear should have them get this into the floor discussion of the bill. After reading the testimony that was in the paper, I think the people should be heard and not bleeding heart liberal college professor types (which includes those who sit on the National Collegiate Athletic Association committees). The people of the tribes. If the legislature won't put it to a vote of the people, the people do have the power to put it on the ballot by initiative.
  13. Has there been any word out of the legislature as to whether the education committee has given a pass or do not pass recommendation to any of the nickname bills?
  14. 2 + 2 = new Whitey's owners should hire Red Lobster's Dining Room & Kitchen Managers
  15. This is actually one of if not the best solutions that has come forward since this whole thing started. Well said, star!
  16. just for clarification, this is the faculty senate, right? would any other decision have been expected from them?
  17. but how about the twin cities kids who come to GF & play for the Sioux?
  18. member since '06 and your first post was worth the wait. well said, Sioux_FF.
  19. I guess this reminds me of the old days in the WCHA: WCHA Standings 1. Wisconsin 2. Minnesota 3. North Dakota 4. Minnesota Duluth This is how the Women's standings are right now. Makes me a little nostalgic for the old WCHA of the 70s and 80s. (the teams, not the order)
