  1. since the letter has been referenced again, something caught my eye that I had just read over before - Considering the overall tone of the letter --- huh? Still fels like UND is between a rock and a hard place & the NCAA has found help to push the rock.
  2. added one more line and edited for Fetch. agreed.
  3. I have to admit, I am holding out hope that Mr Carlson can get somewhere with the NCAA next month, but I am not holding my breath. I do not think they will give two cents worth of thought to any of UND & the North Dakota legislature's statements. They have a lot more (important problems like Ohio State, Auburn and now today North Carolina) on their plates than an agreement with the ND SBoHE that has already been signed and in place for almost 4 years. I have gained a lot of respect for Darrell the past week as he has written some well thought-out posts and makes a lot of sense in the face of the new Big Sky developments. That being said, I admit I am joining the chicken littles, as Fetch calls it, and saying enough is enough. Losing the hockey rivalries with Minnesota and Wisconsin is bad enough, but losing the conference affiliation in the Big Sky has the potential to make UND's athletic programs obscure in independence. UND cannot prosper in independence like the other Fighting ND, or even like BYU, and may even have trouble surviving. With the threat of the WCHA losing stature because of the Big Ten Hockey Conference (whether they have been competetive or not the last couple of years, the Gophers and Badgers bring recognized names to the WCHA), can UND really afford to lose them as out of conference games? Many have said it will hurt them more than UND, but it will hurt the WCHA's public perception because non-hockey states recognize Minnesota and Wisconsin, but Bemidji, Minnesota State, Nebraska Omaha - not so much. The Big Ten Hockey Conference will have instant credibility because it is the Big Ten, everyone knows names like Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State. It may even benefit all of college hockey to have the BTHC. Fetch, your letter to the NCAA is awesome. Again, I just don't think the NCAA cares what Fighting Sioux supporters or even the Spirit Lake Sioux tribe themselves say anymore. I hope to be proven wrong, but we need to prepare ourselves for moving forward without the Fighting Sioux name or logo. With all due respect to DaveK, I will continue to be a fan of UND, whether they are the Flickertails, Fighting Sioux, Spirit Lake Sioux or even Spirit.
  4. Sorry, Star, I don't follow this connection. How is the NDSBoHE Douple's boss? To make that connection through NDSU's (& UND's pending) conference affiliation and the presidents of those institutions seems to be a bit of a stretch.
  5. those who do not want to give up the sioux name, especially hockey fans, ... it's time to get back on the Suhaki bandwagon Cal Poly blog
  6. Since being the Whites or the Blacks would more than likely also be ruled hostile and abusive, are you suggesting the Sioux become the Kelly or the Green?
  7. Not a recruiting post... UND Women's Swimming & Diving is going to the WAC WAC Expansion Announcement
  8. If you actually read my first post on this idea (if memory serves, it was somewhere in the Sioux Name thread), CAS, you would have seen the disclaimer that I did not think this was a good idea. Just floating alternatives to having to give up the Fighting Sioux name. I am gratified that you were amused.
  9. As much as going to the Big Sky is the ring everyone is grabbing for since NDSU & SDSU went D-I, going to the WAC with the Fighting Sioux nickname does bear some consideration versus dropping the name to get into the Big Sky. Not saying its the best of all worlds, but it should be thoughtfully considerd before being dismissed. And again, with Denver already a member, it could be the start of a post Big Ten Hockey hockey conference.
  10. You know, there is a certain appeal to beating NDSU to FBS. The WAC needs teams like UND, for the BSC, its optional. If UND were to go to the WAC, it may pull along teams such as Montana, Montana State and even the other 3 Dakotas. THAT would be an interesting WAC along with Idaho, Denver, Utah State. It may also be a home for some of UND's olympic sports that the BSC doesn't provide. And last, with Denver already there, it could be the beginning of a new post Big Ten Hockey hockey conference.
  11. The NCAA considers this matter settled. They have no incentive to revisit it with all the other stuff (Ohio State, Tennessee, Auburn, Texas, Southern Cal, et al) on their plate right now. UND is now caught in a perfect storm and if we think we are so important that the NCAA is giving any thought at all to the Fighting Sioux nickname, we need a reality check. The Big Sky reignited interest in Sioux athletics that has not been there since the transition to DI began. I am surprising myself by moving so quickly to the dark side, but fighting the NCAA didn't sound nearly as daunting when it seemed that the Big Sky was in our corner.
  12. This one really hurts. Question now is, what can be done? The legislature has adjourned for the biennium and the nickname is the law of the state.
  13. According to a Jon Kasper, Assistant Commissioner in charge of Media Relations for the Big Sky Conference, the nickname has not been an issue for anyone in the Big Sky.
  14. Condolences to you & your family. Hope you get back in soon and the damage is minimal.
  15. From what I hear, Devils Lake is full too, and has been for a few years... This rain won't be helping them any, either.
  16. Disclaimer: this is a mean-spirited reply and may be very tongue-in-cheek... Since Canada will not allow the Devils Lake water to flow in to the Sheyenne River System to help alleviate the Devils Lake problems, why don't we demand that they keep their water that is flowing into the US via the Mouse/Souris and causing all the problems for Minot?
  17. Couldn't find USD & SDSU's 2012, 2013 or 2014 schedules, but both UND and NDSU have open dates September 21, 2013 and September 13, 2014. On top of that, UND opens against SD School of Mines Thursday, August 30, 2012. NDSU is open that weekend. What is the delay in plugging USD, NDSU, SDSU and even UNI into those holes and engaging some old friends and rivals? UND does have a game vs USD this fall and SDSU in 2013. That could be the start of a nice out of conference rotation.
  18. What about Nielson at Minnesota Duluth? If this is another season like last, Nielson should be on Faison's radar, and he may not be available in two years!
  19. Would you be able to get Wyoming from the MWC? They would be a good geographic fit and already have an FBS program.
  20. can someone send this to the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis?
