You’d think Penn State want to schedule tougher competition for their non-conference schedule to prepare them and make them more battle tested come tournament time. Correct me if I’m wrong but Penn State got taken to the woodshed a few years ago by DU in the first round of the tournament. Maybe they hadn’t faced an opponent of that caliber during their regular season?

Uscho.com WCHA picks has Mankato sweeping UND. Good-let everyone think that’ll happen.

I think a good alternative to plopping down $29.95 for the UND/MSU series is watching the DU/BC series if you get NCHC.tv. That’s probably the series of the week on a national scale.

I highly doubt Goon gets compensated for the work he does and I find his articles informative and appreciate the time and effort he puts into them. Thanks Goon for your articles.

Why?

CC had an opportunity to sweep Minnesota tonight and blew it. After a fantastic first period where CC outscored the Gophers 2-0, things fell apart for the Tigers. They took 5 penalties in the second, got outshot 19-9, and Minnesota scored 2 power play goals. So basically, the two PK units were out on the ice so much, you have the non-PK guys sitting on the bench for 7-8 minute stretches, getting cold, and when they finally do get back on the ice, they’re ineffective. Also, CC blew two 2-goal leads tonight, at home. You don’t deserve to win if you do that. Credit Minnesota for not packing it in on either time they fell behind by two. The Halloran/Wilkie/Copeland line was fantastic this weekend, accounting for all but 1 of their goals this weekend. That’s great but if they want to be successful this season, they can’t be a one line team. Opponents will quickly key in on them. Also, CC went to the well too often on the PP tonight; they kept trying to set up Wilkie on the left point for the big one-timer but Minnesota, after getting torched last night on that, made the adjustments and scoped that out and deflected several cross ice passes. They need to not be so one dimensional on their power play.

I’m embarrassed about CC’s sweaters last night. My buddy asked me at the game last night if they were wearing their practice jerseys. Terrible. Those sweaters oughta be put away and never worn again.

Caulfield played last night. I saw him score 2 goals against Boston College!

I don’t know how other UND fans will take your backhanded compliment, but it cracked me up and is very apropos! Having spent a lot of time and money traveling out to Buffalo last year for the series, I will say that it was tough watching UND lose but I give Canisius a ton of credit that weekend, they won fair and square and deserved it.

That Halloran, Wilkie, Copeland line looked good all night. That could be a great line all season. CC hit two bars and two posts tonight.

3-2 CC. Wilkie with the assist.

Kinda sorta similar to Caggiula in that both got very little recruiting interest? Man, I wonder what it was at the time before Pinto blossomed that Berry & Co. saw in him that everyone else missed? Hopefully our gain and everyone else’s loss!
-
So I just watched the new episode of Through these Doors and it was about some of our new guys getting drafted. Anyone know the story about Pinto? He’s a New York kid so how and why did he end up at UND? -I would’ve assumed a high end kid from out east would’ve ended up at BC, BU, Harvard, etc.?

Some are speculating that CC wants a more gender neutral name for the mascot but not sure how “Prowler” could be deemed one gender or the other? Here’s my suggestion for CC’s new mascot. Pat the Prowler!

I’m sure someone found a reason to be offended and made some far fetched causal relation with the name.

I personally don’t think of this as a “revenge series” given that UND has nobody to blame for last year’s sweep but themselves. They certainly can’t blame the Atlantic Hockey officiating as I thought they called it down the middle. Also, nobody told Canisius that they weren’t supposed to come out and earn two wins (God, now I’m stealing lines from Berry Melrose). Canisius just happened to cash in on their opportunities. I didn’t see a lack of effort on UND’s part, simply the inability to score on a team that proved to be a very poor team record wise down the stretch following their series with us. That said, I’m sure Berry & Co. won’t have a difficult time reminding the returning players of the sour taste left in their mouths following that road sweep in Buffalo as well as impressing upon the entire team what a PWR killer one or two losses at home could be going forward with this season.

Wisconsin player K’Andre Miller has been suspended by the team for undisclosed reasons.

How did Westin look tonight?

Only 2 more seasons at the World Arena and then they move into the new Robson Arena.

What’s tough to swallow is how teams like DU gets an extra year or two out of some of their blue blood players. Had Jost come back for at least one more season, who knows what might have happened?
-
https://letsgodu.com/2019/10/04/breaking-news-st-thomas-university-invited-to-join-summit-league/ I read that too. Sounds like some DU fans would also like to see them elevate their hockey program as well. A good fit for the WCHA?

University of North Dakota Hockey 2019-20 Season

Great arena and super cool fan base. I went to the series in, I believe, 2013 when UND needed at least 3 points to claim a share of the McNaughton Cup. We won Friday’s game by a goal in a very closely contested contest but then lost in overtime on Saturday night. I took my lumps and stayed in the stands watching the Mankato fans celebrate as they earned that win. Their fans were really cool, especially when telling them that I traveled to their barn to watch the series. Hope UND does well there this season! -
They brought in a guy in December who played in at least one of the games against UND. The goaltending for Canisius was good when it had to be but not overly tested.

What’s the over/under on UND finishing in the top half this season? I’m doing my second annual NCHC team preview on the Colorado College hockey discussion page and am having a difficult time trying to figure out where to pick UND to finish. It’s between 4th and 6th. -

I went to the Canisius series and I heard second hand that there was some pretty serious trash talking from the Canisius players to the UND players after that weekend sweep. If I were Berry, I would watch lots of tape of those two games with this year’s squad and highlight the Griffen’s strategy of playing “rope-a-dope” with us and really attacking the net as while we dominated zone time in the series last year, we didn’t come away with enough grade A scoring chances.
