  1. Skip down to the last paragraph and read Paula’s comments about 2007 being the year she realized that the Hobey was less about character and more about stats...Is this a dig at Ryan Duncan and North Dakota? https://www.uscho.com/2020/03/03/tmq-closing-out-the-2019-20-ncaa-hockey-regular-season-looking-at-hobey-baker-dark-horses/?fbclid=IwAR1PApa-IuCodP0Z1T8Rslbloood4qgSYF98XU3YIMrVEjnivalOu1y_kGw
  2. It comes as no surprise that he led all players for Team Canada in minutes played at the World Juniors. And, he was justly rewarded on the stats sheet with the primary assist on the GWG against Russia in the gold medal game to boot. He sprung a 4th liner with just a beauty of a pass to go in and score.
  3. Thanks! -I have a picture of me with Kevin Maxwell hiding someplace in my house. He was my coach at UND hockey camp, circa 1980.
  4. You’d think the geniuses with the NCAA would be aware of this. Yet another reason to have regions on the host teams’ own ice rink. That, or avoid having to paint over the ice and just leave it as is. I’m no fan of St. Cloud but this matter is about the student athletes and doing what’s right and making sure the ice conditions don’t deteriorate as a result of the NCAA wanting their logos on the ice. End of rant, I’m going to go grab a Coke and a smile.
  5. I can see how something like that would work to an inferior team’s (AIC) advantage versus a good skating team like St. Cloud.
  6. So question- who were the two 1980 players out on the ice for the trophy presentation? Alex Heinert kept talking during the introduction, I couldn’t make out what the PA guy said.
  7. Proof that plays like this don’t just happen in beer league! IMG_4550.MOV
  8. Cool beans! Funny your perspective about those classic Sioux players. To me as a 7 year old, those guys looked like grown men to me. Today, many of the current players look barely old enough to shave or drive!
  9. They’re replaying last night’s Minnesota/Michigan game. Did anyone see the gaping wide open empty net that the Michigan player missed from 3 feet out? Oof!
  10. On another note, how was the celebration of the 1980 national championship team? Unfortunately, they didn’t televise that part for me to catch. My memories of guys like Chorney, Taylor, Iwabuchi, etc are from attending those games back in the day as a little kid and from those pictures of those All-Americans hanging on the walls in the concourse.
  11. Given such strong opinions both ways, I say we settle this like men at the Hoggsbreath and thumb wrestle over it! @MafiaMan will officiate! (I’d love to be there but have other commitments).
  12. Was it a slash or a stick check as Jake Brandt pointed out?
  13. I asked our Air Force cadet whom we sponsor, who plays for the AF club team and has no dog in the fight whatsoever, his opinion on it and here’s what he said... ”The western guy goes down to one knee before getting to the net, so I’d say he made no attempt to avoid the goalie.”
  14. Anyone have a link to the video of Western’s waived off goal?
  15. Dave Starman went off on a rant last night during the St Cloud game about how bad the ice is at the regionals because of what the NCAA does to it with the painting of the logos and not allowing the ice to set, etc. He wasn’t making excuses for St. Cloud losing to AIC but he did say the ice was really bad.
  16. Update from Colorado Springs....Duluth up 3-2 after two. Wilkie with an incredibly stupid head contact interference penalty resulting in a 5 and a game DQ and Duluth scores.
  17. Update from Colorado Springs....Wilkie scores his 21st goal of the year to cut Duluth’s lead to 2-1 after one. Go Tigers.
  18. They will??? -I’ll go streaking the parking lot of World Arena tonight if CC can manage to win despite themselves.
  19. That’s not true...CC’s has some success against the Sisters of the Poor!
  20. I’ll be at the CC/Duluth series and, sadly, have very little faith that we (UND) can expect much help from CC this weekend. During the Mike Haviland coaching era, Duluth has pretty much owned us. That said, I’m sure UND recognizes the business they need to take care of on their own and not worry too much on what CC and Duluth are doing (that said, I’ll be worrying enough on my own, hoping CC can steal at least a point or two this weekend).
  21. Berry sure seemed to have a long and serious talk with the St. Cloud coach as they shook hands last night after the game.
  22. Were there different St. Cloud announcers on tv up in GF than Rich and Parrish here in Colorado? -Because my folks couldn’t stop complaining about how biased the SCSU tv announcers were and I was thinking, they must’ve had different guys because Parrish kept complimenting North Dakota all night long!
  23. I liked what Berry had to say in the post game to Hennessy...paraphrasing but basically, he’s rather be playing hockey the way his team plays than the way St. Cloud plays. That you might win a game here or there, packing it in and not playing on your toes. Edit: But more times than not, you will lose playing the way SCSU played tonight.
  24. I agree with the sentiment of everyone on here about the questionable after-the-fact 5 minute major but what are everyone’s thoughts about the hit itself. Question: did Caulfield have to hit Poehling a second or two after he had already released the shot? Seems to me that Caulfield had plenty of time to either stop or skate by Poehling without hitting him.
