  1. My 2 cents. Last nights game was one of the best hockey games I've seen this year. Lots of back and forth action. Greene and Jones probably played the worse game of the year, especially Greene. Brandt played very average, as did Briggs - 8 GA in 2 games = MVP? Someone flunked math Parise played incredible should win the Hobey I hope the Devils were not watching the games, BB had a very good tourny also Vanek was the lasiest player on the ice, the Randy Moss of college hockey Ballard was schooled by BB, other than that he was very solid, he is a good D man Smaby was the best D man on the ice for the Sioux, glad to see him improving If they didn't want to give MVP to a player from the losing team, give it to Irmen, I join the rest of the people scrathing their heads about Briggs I think the loss will be good for the Sioux, one last brain fart before the NCAA's Why does Waibel always seem to score against the Sioux? The win was good for the Gophers, if they would have played like they did the last two weeks, they would have been right up with the Sioux and UMD. The Sioux will either have the possibility of MI in MI or Denver in CO. I'd take Denver, but MI isn't that good this year, so no excuses if we head East.
  2. And next years Freshman are a bunch of stinking Canucks.

    UND vs UAA

Anyone see Prpich castrate that UAA player. The shot of him laying upside down on the bench was priceless. It was a very dirty play, but can't help but to laugh.
  4. 2003-04 All-WCHA Academic Team Announced University of North Dakota Brian Canady, Jr, F, Kenai, AK; Nick Fuher*, Jr, D, Grand Forks, ND; Quinn Fylling*, Jr, F, Minot, ND; Matt Greene, So, D, Grand Ledge, MI; Ryan Hale*, Sr, F, Colorado Springs, CO; Matt Jones*, Jr, D, Lisle, IL; Lee Marvin, So, D/F, Warroad, MN; Zach Parise, So, F, Faribault, MN. Looks like someone wasn't serious about only going to school to play hockey.
  5. I believe Blais has hinted at this. Beaverson was recruited for his size. He was not heard of before he had a big growth spurt. He will be very much like Smaby, who has improved steadily this year. Unless 1 or 2 D man go pro I'd be surprised to see Beaverson here next season.
  6. I saw Franky and his friends unloading at the Excel. It's nice to see the WCHA gives these "special" kids a chance to see quality hockey. I'm guessing Frank's group is the kids with the hockey helmets on. Not the one's wearing them for fun, but necessity.
  7. I will have to agree with you, I didn't realize the Southside was so strong at every level. South's JV team was the best in the state, their varsity team next year should be the best, Weisgarber is very talented, reminds me of Irmen. He needs some size, other than that he is a very complete player. Hopefully they can keep it up, would be nice to see some South kids at the D1 level, the only one I know of is McLean at Army, I think he graduates this year. By the numbers I've heard South is going to be a dominant team for years, looks like it may actually come true for the next 5-10 years. As a Northsider I feel a little jealous and hope the best players from the Flyers see the light and move north or turn Catholic.
  8. If you were to look at North from 78-85 you could say North is going to be the next powerhouse. Bismarck and Minot from 89-93. Schools go up and down. The fact is overall RR, Central and Grafton are the most consistent programs in the state. South should have a few good years, but this is the first year they have even made it to state in a few years. South was terrible in 95-96, their team that won state in 94 was not that good, was a good example of what a hot goalie can do - Matt Burm (who never played Flyers ) played an incredible tourny. Sorry to say the fact the Flyers have a good group of Squirts means little. The fact the Bantam A's had a good team probably is a good indication South will have good teams the next 3-4 years. After that who knows?
  9. All State Team Pioneer Press announced their all state team. Oshie is on the 2nd team. Lee received "honorable mention" Not a lot of credit for a kid many consider the best in the state. Notable - Moorhead players Gifford on 3rd team. Deutz, Loos , Ammerman, Lee all honorable mention. - Warroad - Hasbargen, Olimb, Hardwick, Sorrels all honorable mention. - EGF - Tyler Johnson - honorable mention Coolest names - Ryan Thang, ELI VLAISAVLJEVICH (good luck to the WCHA rink announcers next season) Not much respect for Section 8 - but what do you expect from those metro folks.
  10. I was just driving down Washington and the Southgate sign said "watch Fighting Sioux Hockey here 2:00 Friday". Take it for what it's worth.
  11. That is why I said up until Bantams In fairness to them, Cory, Halstenson and I believe Bjoralt all played high school as 9th graders - could have made a diffence in winning Bantam A state. IMO North will never win state with Smith at the helm, Wilson has at least won a couple of championships. I don't doubt South will have some good years, but I do not see them taking over Central or RR as the 'favorite' for a long stretch of time.
  12. That is the problem with Fargo - they get a group of kids that dominate youth hockey then fizzle out. The current Junior class at North was unstoppable up to Bantam's, they didn't even make it to state this year. I've heard a lot of people blame Smith and Wilson, not sure how far that goes. IMO Smith is a terrible coach, I don't know much about Wilson. I do know South's JV coach - Curt Smith is one of the best. It seems Fargo kids have more problems with drugs and other teenage rebellion like problems in high school. Two of the best players on my North team pissed away their talents in the mid 90's. After GF lost 1/2 of their players to the Bears/ Ice Sharks North should have been the favored to win state but still managed to screw up. I hope South does start building a good a good program, but I'll believe it when I see it, until then the GF schools are always going to be favored.
  13. Lou Nanne, while announcing one of the State games said it is Anderson's dream to play for the Gophers. Not sure how much credit I'd give that. As it stands look for Beaverson to possibly spend another year in the USHL, unless Jones or Greene leave early.
  14. They moved to Moorhead. They were looking to move anyway, after talking to Morinville they decided to cross the river. It remains to be seen if being a standout on a average North team or being another face in the crowd on a very good Moorhead team will better his chances of being noticed. Being named to the all tourny team at State should help.
  15. The wave is for baseball games where there are long breaks in the action. Hockey is too fast paced. I for one would be ticked if I missed a goal because some people were doing the wave or throwing a beach ball in front of me. In my opinion the wave does nothing for atmosphere - it has nothing to do with what is going on in the game. Standing for the PP, or chanting sieve, these are hockey things, leave the wave to baseball.
  16. They don't play very much at tourny time - they are in the ND league. This year they lost 2 EDC games 16-1 and 14-1 I think. In other words they are the worse team in the East every year, at least every year I can remember. How about that Loos kid, #1 player of the game two nights in row, on the ice for 6 of the 10 goals for and 0 goals agianst = +5 (one on PP). Maybe he'll get some looks from the WCHA. If not Quinnipiac's reign will start in 2005.
  17. Sorry Jloos, the McFeeley article in the Forum kept on stating that he was a 3rd liner. I was doubting that when I saw him playing with Becker last night though. Does it really make a difference with Moorhead? They are real deep. FYI, I played at South from 90-93.
  18. All those Polish names sound the same to me ski this ski that and the damned z's and k's. Disclaimer: To any ultra sensitive PC folks, that was a joke.
  19. I just turned the TV on in the student lounge, the announcers said he is playing out of his head, 28 saves in two periods. He looked ok against a very mediocre team on Wed. Anyone hear if either of the Sioux Staff is in St. Paul? I think Gwodzowsky? is the best forward I've seen, and Lee the best offensive D-man I've seen in the Tourny. Albert Lee and Lakeville both have a couple of good D also.
  20. The Moorhead Juniors' claim they are all coming back next year. With the Elite League and the schedule Moorhead plays, I'm not sure if the USHL would be that beneficial to Lee. I think it is great to see the MN Tourny look more like it did 7-10 years ago with the top players playing high school. I think the elite league is great for hockey, and is accomplishing its mission - keeping players from jumping to the USHL. Also the 17 min periods are a step in the right direction. I would still like to see about 10 more games, that would be comparable to college.
  21. The Quinnipiac dynasty could begin. They have a new rink, plus a former Sioux goalie. They could become the official Sioux reject school, and still dominate the MAAC, or AHC or whatever the heck they call that league.
  22. I agree with you, except Cory was on the 2nd line. He played on the 1 2 and 3 lines throughout the year. In last nights came the 2nd line was Loos, Johnson, Becker. Cory is probably 6 or 7 on depth chart on Moorhead. He has had D1 coaches talking to him and will most likely play D1, but probably not in the WCHA. He does not fit the typical Blais recruit, he is a lot like Grant Potulny or Massen, big with good hands, but not the quickest. My uncle (his dad) played at Bemidji, I could see him going to a CHA team or an ECAC team. When did you play for Wilson Roper?
  23. IF there is 3 western teams ranked 1-2-3 in RPI will one of the teams get a #1 seed out East or does there have to be 2 East teams in both #1 seeds out East?
  24. Lee did cough up the puck in the D zone a couple of times, it looked like nerves more than anything. I think he was getting frustrated, game should have been a blow out MHD outshot them 3-1. ER held the puck against the boards more than any team I've ever seen. Moorheads top line was shut down. Luckily Becker,Johnson,Loos line stepped up and played a great game. Becker is a very complete player, the only knock agianst him is his size. His dad played for the Sioux and I believe played in the NHL, Rangers? Lee is very lanky, he should fill out. He is far and away the best D-man I've seen in the state.
