I think one of the big problems with the student section is the same problem with the season ticket holders. Too many attend the games as a social gathering, not to watch a hockey game. When I sat in the student section I was very surprised at the number of students who had no idea what was going on at ice level. These were the students who felt the need to stand all the time and swear constantly. That is the price to pay for the new REA. It is going to be more corporate and will never be what the old REA was. On the other hand, the student section has been unfairly targeted and policed. I can remember a game two or three years ago against BC. The Sioux were losing by a couple of goals and mounted a big comeback in the third period. Many of the students there to socialize left after the second period. That third period was rocking. After the Sioux scored less than a minute into the period, the students stood most of the first half of the period, as the Sioux kept scoring. After that game there were many complaints about the students standing and being too loud. If I remember right the Sioux scored 3 or 4 goals in less than 10 minutes. That was a time to make a ton of noise and stand most of the time. After things quieted down the students eventually sat, but still a few complained. From what I have seen, the students have brought much of this on themselves. Many of them do not know the game and do not know how to act at a game. At the same time it appears the admin is going too far and generalizing the entire student section rather than trying to come up with a realistic solution. Personally I expect the student section to be full of immature 18-21 year olds. Guess what, many 18-21 year olds are obnoxious. Unfortunately some have taken their immaturity too far. Personally I think the best thing to do would be have the students police themselves. With the right supervision I think this could be done successfully. The student government should be involved, and they could work with REA officials. I hope my grammer and spelling are ok ND Pride

My father's paternal grandparents emigrated to Grafton via Iceland, and his maternal grandparents emigrated to Grafton via Norway. My mother's maternal grandparents emigrated to Iowa via Norway. Nobody in my family tree was in the US before about 1920, and did not steal any land (or anything else for that matter). Do you people not see how contradictory you are? You demand everyone thinks like you, and stereotype everyone who does not. At the same time you preach about how respective of others you are. The entire anti-name thing is just something for the elitist leftists at UND to whine about. Those opposed to the name are a tiny minority mostly made up of professors who are over-paid and under-worked. People like GrahmKracker I actually have some respect for. I disagree with him, but at least he is Native and obviously knows the issues. The others against the name, on this board and elsewhere, are obviously worthless socialists who will live their entire lives living off the government.

If people would learn that generalizing an entire group of people based on the actions of a few is not logical, then the world would be a better place. The majority of all hockey fans I have met are pretty classy. Before the Gophs won the first of two recent NC's I never ran into a classless MN fan at Mariucci. My first really bad experience was at the X during the frozen 4. I was chearing for MN, but wearing a Sioux hat. A group of Gopher "fans" tried to get me and a Badger fan to fight. After the game, they proceeded to try and burn down Dinky Town. I've seen Sioux fans go after guys wearing Gopher jerseys at the REA. I am not talking playful taunts, but actual physical aggression. I think this problem is more wide spread than college hockey. Poltiticians have been generalizing the hell out of each other. Republicans are all racist, gun loving, war starting animals. Democrats are all pot smoking, Jane Fonda loving, hippies. What is sad is it appears that there is a substantial number of people in this country dumb enough to believe everything their respective media outlet tells them.
-
The jersey tug and Lammy's actions are on the same page. Both classless moves. The hits from behind are not intentional. Fabian and Foyt both had Gopher players turn on them and both tried to hold up at the last second. Still it is a dangerous play and one that needs to be avoided, but it will happen by accident at times. However, there is a big difference between hitting a forward who quickly turns his body as you are checking him and coming across the ice and drilling a stationary player who has his back to you, which is what Paukovich did to Bina.

Which is exactly what I said A number of kids I coached play or played for Shanley and I have seen several of their games over the past few years. When playing GF and other good teams they shorten the bench to two lines (at the most). When playing weaker teams they let the other kids get a chance to play more. Shanley has a very nice program and will be much better now that they have a good feeder program established.
-
I was not at the game, but knowing how Shanley typically plays, they were likely playing some of their players who do not normally see ice time. Since bringing hockey back, Shanley has played no more than 2 lines against the good teams, and have given the other kids a chance against weaker competition. Personally I think it is great the way Shanley runs their program, it gives all the kids a chance to compete.

When I lived in the Cities I bought them for no more than face value from someone in the student parking lot next to the arena, the first year I lived there. Then next year (the year after MN won the NC) those same tickets were going for about $5-10 above face value. I never went to a game and could not buy a reasonably priced ticket. Also, the standing room tickets can be very good. The best thing about the rink is the Famous Dave's on site Kessel is obviously not a complete player, he has been shut down pretty well at the higher levels of competition. He is still the best talent I've seen in the 2006 draft. Towes is probably a more complete player right now, but he does not have the pure talent Kessel has. Eric Johnson, from what I saw at the WJ's, is a very likely #1 pick. He and Jack Johnson were the best D pair in the tourny by far for USA. I still think the best freshman on the ice this weekend (and all weekends) will be Oshie.
-
Good post. Replace tennis with baseball and you have Marto. Both of these players are naturally gifted athletes. It will be interesting to see what happens when they focus on hockey. Cory Johnson from Moorhead was another player like them, it is too bad he was not given much respect for his hockey abilities. I think he could have become a Panzer-like college hockey player.
-
I just hope the very bad St. Louis Blues team missed the tourney. From the little I saw Malkin was by far the best player in the tourny. He should be in the NHL right now.

American TV Anchor: But, Mr. Minister, it isn't like this film is the first troublesome thing to come out of Canada. Let us not forget Bryan Adams. Canadian Film Minister: Now, now, the Canadian Government has apologized for Bryan Adams on several occasions! The people in BC are a bunch of pot smoking tree hugging wack jobs, I wouldn't be too concerned about them. The fans in GF last year were not that bad, it was a very small group that was doing the anti-US stuff and they were likely from BC - or they were dirty French Canadians.

80+% of American Indians support the name. 80+% of whiney white far left liberals oppose the name. I would guess 99% of everyone else either supports the name or doesn't care.

This is my first year back in Fargo, Cable One sucks as bad as they used to. I was looking forward to a nice relaxing night at home watching the Sioux. Now I'm stuck watching the damned Gophers. At least it's hockey.

I was wondering what happened to Dave's kid, why did he go to IL? Serratore is probably the Air Force Academy's coaches kid, who I believe is the brother of Bemidji's coach. I think they are Iron Rangers. I thought Aaron Marvin was one of the best players, let alone sophomores in the state last season. If he continues to develop, he could be ready for the WCHA right out of high school. I would assume the Sioux don't actually have to recruit a Marvin ....Although I think there is a girl from the family playing for the U of M.
-
I was going to compare him to Massen, but I didn't want to curse the poor kid. Massen did have one very good year for the Sioux, then had problems with injuries and disappeared. The only times I have seen Willert play has been in select/elite tournaments. He stood out with a very loaded elite team last year. I will agree he does not have the flashiness that Christian or Weisgarber have, but he is a more marketable pro player. When Weisgarber was younger he was the best youth player around, maybe the best I've ever seen. I coached against him when he was a mite, playing on a squirt team. He must have scored 100 goals. Granted I have not seen him play that much the last year, but the few times I have seen him, I have not noticed much improvment since his sophomore year. I did see him with the elite II team and his speed stood out, but he was easily put off the puck every time he touched it, as was Jordy Christian. If he can learn to play against the bigger stronger players, he will be a great college player. However, he needs at least a year in the USHL to learn that type of game. You are usually right about these players, it will be interesting to see how they develop. I always like to see kids from Fargo play D1 hockey, even Danny Irmen
-
I have yet to hear if the Sioux are recruiting Jordan Willert. He is one of the best ND players I've ever seen play. I think he is playing with Mario L. at Tri-City. Those two would make nice additions in 07. Jordy Christian has a ton of talent, very fast skater with good hands. His size isn't the greatest, but he is only a junior in hs, he will learn to adapt. There are a couple of other Moorhead kids who are also very talented. Jeff Foss looked good at D last year. Devin Nitzkorski is very talented, I thought he looked better than Christian a lot of times last year. There are a few others that are also legitimate college players.

1. Gay porn + 2. Gay love triangle + 3. Professor adopting 18 year old lovechild + 4. turned public scandle = CBS miniseries Just wait until the national media gets on this story. If Reeves keeps playing the "sexuality card" they are sure to glam on at some point.

Here's the rest of the quote on that date (god I can't believe I've sunk to this level) I'll stand by that quote and say it again. That came from personal experience. I believe at the time I wrote this was when 2 or 3 North players were suspended after overdosing on ectacy. I remember the first out of town games I played in for North - we played Century and went to Minot the next day. As soon as we were into the hotel room (about 8 players per room - says a lot about their budget ) the older players took out the booze, tobacco and weed. Not all of them, but I would say a majority. Don Smith came into our hotel room the next morning to wake us up - we fell asleep around 5:00 am and it was about 6:00 am, and saw cigarette buts, chew tins, marijuana pipes, and spilt whiskey on the floor. He didn't say anything other than yell about getting on the bus. We lost to a pretty week (sorry Wilbur) Minot team the next day, both JV and Varsity. The statement was mostly sarcasm as the majority of players are/were not like that. However, I poked fun at myself and anyone else who went to North. As far as recent players, my cousin got out of North for several reasons, one was the number of players who didn't care about the game and liked to get high. I never once mentioned anyone. Sorry for those reading this, but this guy has made some cheap comments about me a few times - now that I know why I am defending myself. I am assuming these are former North players or more likely their parents. ND PRide if you have anything else to say, do it private - click on the send private message or email me at jloos8@gmail.com. I will be happy to respond to any comments you have.

To put an end to it - I did not make any allegations about any high school students. You can search through all of my posts. Unlike you I use my real name, so I take personal jabs seriously. This is an internet message board, but I still treat it and others with respect. I said something that ticked off the ND high school people like ND Pride, and specifics, but I never blasted high school kids. The closest thing I said was this: Mar 15 2004, or or How about locking this thread and removing that six foot stick from ND Pride
-
I'm not sure where this animosity comes from, but it appears misplaced. I have never said anything negative about a group of high school students. Looking back on this board the only other people I have "ripped on" were LaDoucer - the GF ref - who I, along with most of the state, would rip on again, and Ward Churchill - the Marxist professor from CO. You must have me mixed up with someone else, what high school team was I referring to? I may have made a jab at South when half their team was suspended after a party a few years back. A lot of my posts use a literary device called satire. If you are not aware of what satire is, I suggest reading Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal. I very rarely say anything negative on this board, or anywhere else. The only people that seem to have a problem are the people trolling the HS hockey board - I looked up your posts. I will say it one last time and be done. The Irmen's were jerks when they were in Fargo - that is my opinion based on no intimate or personal knowledge outside of the hockey rink. This felt my opinion was relevant on the topic. Other people have similar opinions - thanks Cratter. So what - I am sure other people think I'm a total jerk, especially those in Mayville. I could care less, much like the Irmens could care less that I think they are jerks. I also think all Irish people are poor, uneducated fools who should start eating their children to cure their hunger problem. Next I suppose you are going to tell my that you are Irish and deeply offended. I'm done with this topic.
-
Irmen is a great player, he has a ton of talent. However, this topic is titled "chip on shoulder". Todd Bertuzzi almost killed someone, and did end his career. He should be banned from the NHL for life. That is a terrible example. I know Irmen as a cockey jerk, I have never seen any reason to think of him otherwise. It has nothing to do with him recruited by Minny - I would have the same opinion of him if he played for the Sioux. His dad is a jerk, the kid is a jerk, both my opinions based on personal experience. Again, I would say the same thing about several of the former Raider players/parents. I seem to know a lot more about hockey than I do? You seem to know me personally. Although if you did, you probably would not have made the statement about hiding behind my screen name Would you care to inform me of who you are, private message me and it will stay private. Irmen is a jerk. My opinion based on a couple of dozen personal observations. Outside of the hockey rink he and his dad may be some of the nicest people in the world. However, they way they disrespected other players on both the opposing and home teams was classless. The way Irmen showboats, he did it all the time the one year he played for North, is classless. I figured he would have grown up, but apparently he has yet to do so. I would never speak about a high school kid like this, but he is a junior in college and a second round NHL draft pick. I think he is old enough to handle criticism. I will go ahead and say the same thing about a former Sioux. Jason Blake was a complete jerk and a classless hockey player. He finally grew up a few years into his NHL career and is now one of the best US players in hockey. I hope Irmen does the same, I really do, but he has not shown me any reason to think he is anything but a classless, cockey, punk.
-
Well said You have to be happy with the way Oshie played last weekend. With all the Towes-Kessel hype he was the best freshman on the ice. Both teams played well, the Gophers played better. Irmen's antics were classless, Chorney sunk down to their level.

All three of them are very moderate, socially, and bring home a ton of federal dollars for ND. North Dakotans typically don't like to pay for anything with state taxes, but have no problem accepting pork from the feds. Dorgan has always been close to the Indian Tribes, they likely give him a fair amount of cash. However, I think this story about him was pretty shady, I'm not so sure he did anything wrong. Dorgan, Conrad and Pomeroy keep getting elected because they do their jobs well. I join in the majority of ND's who voted for those three, and Bush and Hoevan in the past couple of elections. When nut-jobs like Mike Liffrig are all the Repubs can put up, it is really a no brainer. Too bad they couldn't get Schaffer to run. I think Pomeroy is UND's best bet to support the name. He has kept pretty close ties in the state and is a big UND supporter. Dorgan may also help, but he will not want to piss off his Tribal contributors. I'm pretty sure Conrad has not visited ND in the past five years but he sends back lots of money.
