  1. I think leaving Adam Pineault off the team had more to do with him 1. signing a pro contract with Columbus and 2. being injured.
  2. Paukovich? Just because the games are in Vancouver doesn't mean the US should take our version of Bertuzzi. Paukovich is a slow sloppy player who contributes almost no offense. Without looking at the USCH stats, I'm guessing he has very few points this season. This could also create some tension on the team between him and the Sioux players.
  3. He had to stop playing for Bozeman, he has a temporary metal plate holding his wrist together. He will not be able to play the rest of the season. It sounds like the Dr. did not perform the surgery the way he thought. Any of the other lawyers on this site do med/mal? If only he was drafted in the NHL, future earnings alone would make it a nice lawsuit
  4. He is a great kid and his mom is an MD in Fargo, as is his uncle whom I coached with and have a lot of respect for. They are from Winnipeg originally, and I am pretty sure he does not have a chip on his shoulder. Playing for and attending Harvard was probably not his second choice
  5. This is going to be some great hockey. I predict Michigan goes 2-0 Michigan St. 0-2, which leaves WI & MN 1-1. I'm looking forward to seeing Michigan play, they have a great team on paper. Jack Johnson is living up to the hype - he will likely be gone after this season.
  6. Doesn't flickertail refer to a ground squirral, which would be a rodent? This is a nice recruit for ND - although it was also one the Sioux were expected to get IMO. You can't lose a 1st round draft pick that lives an hour away. Both Forney and Marto are interesting picks, both are great athletes that have never focused on hockey (or so it appears). Neither are a sure things (if there ever is such a thing) but both have a huge upside. It will be interesting to watch them develop at UND.
  7. I will have to agree these rankings are meaningless. A few years back they ranked law schools and ranked Princeton Law School as a top 10 law school in the country. The problem was, Princeton does not have a law school. The Princeton Review is supposed to be the best reflection of how schools "rank". At least they know Princeton University does not have a law school.
  8. Nice recap, as always. I have been watching college hockey for a long time and I've never seen a player develop as much as Smaby. At times he was flat out bad as a freshman. Last year he was one of the best in college hockey. If the exhibition game is an indication of how he will do this year, there are going to be a lot of injured forwards on other WCHA teams. He hit everything that moved. I have been surprised how little credit Towes and Lee have been given. I can see these two battling each other for ROY. Glad to see you got out of dirty California smoggy, did you find a teaching job in MN?
  9. They took him off the Spezza-Heatly line and replaced him with Alfredsson, who then scored two goals. Hopefully he is given some more ice time with the big line. The Calder should be a close race this year. Ovechkin, Parise, Rene Bourque, Bochenski, Phaneuf - all could win it. I believe Malkin is playing in Russia this year, but he would likely be another contender.
  10. Thanks. He is still recovering from wrist surgery. He just started skating about a month ago. Bozeman played him a little bit in the few games they've played. They fly to Alaska and play 4 games in 4 days in a couple of weeks, then fly to Minny for the NAHL showcase for 4 more games in 4 days. Hopefully he'll be ok to play in those games. Did anyone else catch the Jets-NDSU scrimmage? I noticed Moreland was playing with the Jets again, I'm assuming he is not trying to walk on again? I still think Graalum could play D1 hockey, although this has to be his last chance, he must be 20 by now. The best player on the ice was actually from NDSU, I'm guessing he was Nick Krebsbach from Minot - I heard he transferred to NDSU from Wayne St (I think).
  11. I thought you were dead.
  12. My cousin is playing for Bozeman - you'll have to keep me updated on how he's doing. I believe the younger Fylling is also playing there.
  13. I assume Spirit Lake High School will now be changing their nickname - the Indians . I'm a little surpised the Tribal Council caved in to the activists, I thought they were smart enough to see they are simply being used by the PC left elitists. I think this resolution will be the backbreaker for the Sioux name. It gives the NCAA reason to differentiate from Florida State. The whole thing is so stupid. Even though these Tribal Councils have passed these resolutions, people need to realize it is still a vast minority of Natives who oppose the name. In my opinion these Tribal Councils are being used by these leftist activists. Tony, comparing the Sioux name to segregation is at best, in poor taste. The University of North Dakota has done more for Natives than any school in the midwest. Their Native MD program is the best in the country and their Indian Law program is in the top 3 in the country. UND has done a great job honoring not only the Sioux, but all Natives.
  14. The official I know at Spirit Lake says they have been getting a ton of pressure from a group in CA, as well as the leftist UND Profs. It sounds like it will be a very close vote. Spirit Lake still has some leaders with common sense that realize they would be hypocritical calling for UND to change their name (they are the Indians). My concern is, what will happen to the Indian programs at UND if the name is changed. The Sioux name gives the University a pro native identity not found at any other school in the region. Without the name they will lose this, and slowly lose many of the great Native programs at the school. UND has been very good to the Native communities, and in turn they have been good to UND. I hope Spirit Lake sees this and continues to support the Sioux name as they continue to support their own Indian name. Standing Rock, Rosebud and Pine Ridge and all out in left field - they represent the "we hate all white people and blame all of our problems on them" mentality that is keeping them in poverty. They were screwed by the government in the past, but they need to learn to put the past behind them. They refuse to do anything to better themselves. The gov't tosses money at them (especially Pine Ridge) and all they do is embezzle it and elect leaders they know will steal the money. Of course the gov't can never fully make good what they did to Natives, but Natives need to realize they are trying, and are no longer the enemy.
  15. GrahamKracker, I'll give you a little advice. You will live a very lonely, unhappy, unproductive life with your mindset. You stereotype everyone and everything. You have yet to state why you want UND to change its name - just that you demand they should because you are of Sioux ancestory. At least come up with a rational. I think most on this board would give you some respect if you actually came up with a well thought out argument. The vast majority of Indians have no problem with the name. UND has done everything they can to honor the name. UND has done more than almost any University in the country for Indian students. UND has done a lot for Indians who never set foot on the campus through the med school, law school, and I'm sure other schools. Personally I am involved with Indian law and have met hundreds of tribal leaders. I do not discuss college sports names with most of them, but the majority of those I have talked to about it draw a very big distinction between UND's use of the Sioux name and the redskin or savage nickname. The name redskin or savage is akin to calling a team a derogity term I will not put on this board. Using the name Sioux or Seminole is akin to using the name Irish or Viking. Ironically those that I've talked to who want the name change most often site the negative press received from people like you as the main reason for wanting the change. Everytime someone pulls a stupid PC move like the NCAA, they find some Native poster child to pretend it is the Indian community behind the push to change the name. This creates some hard feelings toward said Indian community. In reality it is most often some fringe group of white people that pretends the use of Indian names is like segregation. I think I'm done ranting - I never did see you come down to the Indian Law Center - ironically nobody there nor anybody at the Indian center had any clue who you were or could be.
  16. American Indian people are being used by the anti-establishment nutjobs who are unfortunately now mostly college professors. Also people like Russel Means have jumped on the bandwagon sniffing for publicity - which equals more $$ for them. Much like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton use black people for their own financial gain. Your "ancestors" gave UND permission to use the name. UND as an institution has always treated the name with respect. I have been to several Sioux hockey games home and away and encountered hundreds of protesters - I suspect less than 10% of these people had any native blood. Most Indian people I know and that I am friends with support keeping the name and feel it is a case of out of control PC. The few Native friends I have that want to keep the name can at least make a coherant argument for wanting it changed - I have yet to see this from anyone on this board. To generalize every white persons ancestors this way only goes further to show your ignorance. This ruling by the NCAA is likely unconstitutional, I hope UND challenges it, hell I would if I had standing. Even if the ruling stands - UND will not change their name. It's not like the Sioux are hosting a ton of NCAA postseason events - my understanding of the ruling (which I have only heard about second hand) is this will not have any effect on football.
  17. From what I can tell the only thing this ruling will do is make the Sioux where the "NORTH DAKOTA" jerseys in post season play. What I found very interesting is it is only in sports after February I guess football teams using these logo's/mascots is ok -it is just the other sports that make it offensive. It looks like the NC$$ is balancing there elitist liberal thinking with there capitalist greedy thinking. What a great organization
  18. Chorney - 2nd period, Oct 8. following a natural hat trick by Lee Marvin in the 1st.
  19. I can't understand how Oshie is ranked lower than Fisher - or Vandevelde for that matter. All are very good players, but Oshie sees the ice better and has the best offensive skills. I'm guessing the 5'10 height is the only reason he is ranked lower - I'll never understand how they think 2" makes you that much better of a hockey player.
  20. I hope you are working in Bloomington. I lived in Bloomington for a year and it was the worse decision of my life. I had to drive to St. Paul everyday - I spent 2+ hours in traffic everyday pondering why the hell I moved there. Hopefully the 494 will be better after the expansion - but 35W is where the real nightmare is. I ended up driving through town (98th st) around the airport and up through St. Paul - seemed pretty stupid considering there are several interstate/highway options - but they are basically parking lots from 6-9 am and 3-7 pm. Bloomington is a nice place to live - so long as you rarely have to leave the SW burbs. On the whole Fargo - GF thing, having lived in both and graduated from both SU and UND, IMO Fargo is a much better city, UND is a much better school. There is more to do in Fargo, and Fargo is rapidly expanding - although they are not going to hit MSP size they may turn into a Madison or Omaha type city. You have to face it - both the Alerus and the Dome suck for football, I haven't been to a concert at the Alerus yet, but the Dome is a terrible venue for concerts also. Actually the only good event the Dome has held on its parking lot (RibFest). UND is a much better college town - mainly because they don't have a closeted fascist in charge of the police department in GF. I think we can all agree - both towns are cooler than Minot
  21. Almost 24,000 people voting for ND? MN has 10,000 votes - it looks like some NDSU fans have way too much time on their hands.
  22. I didn't follow SSM much, but the few times I saw them play Chay was playing forward. He is listed as a forward on their roster - either Vernon thinks he can play D - or they need to pay their scouts more.
  23. Hoeven has better style, although not by much.
  24. In this case it would be right wing
