  1. Obviously Parise did not have his best game - he was out of position on 2 or 3 of the goals. However, one of those was deflected and the other two were perfectly placed - Bochenski type goals. The Sioux played 60 hard minutes. They made some huge mistakes, which BC capitalized on. As a fan this was such a frustrating game as the Sioux outplayed BC most of the game. Every time the Sioux play BC it turns into a wierd game.
  2. The Sioux played a bad game mentally. They made too many mistakes. However, they never gave up and played as intense as ever. Even Parise continued to battle after letting in some soft goals and having a bad deflection. This team was a lot of fun to watch - hopefully most will be back next season.
  3. If your on the Northside in Fargo, there will be a bunch of people at Labbie's (formerly REEBS). It is owned by the parent of North hockey player and is a very hockey friendly place. No smoking and they allow kids.
  4. Bars close at 2:00 except Fri & Sat night they can stay open until 2:30. The off sale laws vary by county, but most cut off early 9 or 10 - after that it is 3.2 beer or nothing. You can get off sale (beer) in the grocery stores. In WI you can legally drink in a bar/restaurant at the age of 18, if you are accompanied by a parent or a spouse - over 21.
  5. Prpich scores the only goal in the third period for a 1-0 win. Parise with 35 saves.
  6. This may sound strange, but I had the best grilled cheese sandwich of my life at the Water Street Brewery. Kind of cliche, but they have some damn good cheese in Wisconsin. Their microbrews are also very tasty. Their burgers are also very good. The Miller plant is mostly a pretty boring tour - mostly behind plexiglass, but the last time I did it they did bring us to the caves where they used to store the beer, that was pretty cool. If you want a real brewery tour, stop in Chippewa Falls and tour the Leine's factory. Wisconsin has earned their reputation as being a state full of fat alcoholics. At least they have fun. Wish I could attend this year. Damn pregnant wife
  7. I hope Potulny and Irmen make it in the NHL, it would be good for ND hockey. Both have the potential to be regular NHL players. Neither has the foot speed to be a star in the NHL, but if they make some adjustments they could be good 3rd line checkers. Potulny may be able to make a career as a PP specialist, but I think he is going to have to adjust his game and play more defense. Irmen has done well against the Sioux, nobody can deny that, but very few college players have ever "dominated" every time they are on the ice. Irmen is not one of those players.
  8. That is one funny guy. He was in Minneapolis a couple of weeks ago. His best movie role is the guy pulled over in Super Troopers who they play the "Meow" game with.
  9. Jimmy Hoffa is also buried directly under the center face off circle. Also, the government runs a secret facility underneath the home locker room where they study alien technology. I imagine such a stupid rumor was started based on Ralph threatening to halt construction on the arena if they changed the name. For numerous legal and common sense reasons, the REA is not going to be blown up... or in
  10. Nicely put. Personally I hope Potulny wins because he is a local kid. Carle is the best d-man college hockey has seen since Leopold, although I still think Leopold is one of the best college d-man to ever play, not sure if I can say that about Carle, maybe if he stuck around for next season and put up similar numbers. He still had the best season in college hockey and will likely win the award. Potulny scored a lot against AA - but so did everyone else. He also had a ton of points against the Sioux. His stats this year are impressive, nobody can legitimately deny that.
  11. Specifics just crawled up from the high school thread. Kind of like the cocky 11 year old who thinks he should be sitting at the adult table for Thanksgiving dinner. Just say "no specifics - back to the kiddie table, at least until you know what in the hell you're talking about".
  12. You would think those soon to be Doctors would have better temperments. Last year the only fights we had were against the med school. Who was involved in said fight from the law school? I am hoping it was a certain 6-3 250lb Canadian law student who seriously smacked down some cocky future MD.
  13. My Dad went to six Sioux games this year - they lost them all. He had suite tickets for this weekend and will be watching the games in Fargo.
  14. I would disagree with this to a point. I have been to a few Gopher football games and the only ones that come close to 50,000 fans are when they play Iowa or Wisconsin. Those games probably draw 60,000+ fans, of which about 25,000-40,000 of them are from Iowa or Wisconsin. Football attendance is not a good way to judge the popularity of the program IMO. They have what, five or six home games - the one game against IA or WI they play every year drives up the average. Except when the Gophers travel to AA or Tech, they pretty much have every game on MSC. The Gopher football team is rarely televised.
  15. Lex Luther doesn't know what the hell he is talking about. I support Bison football to a small degree, but this guy is a tool. The guy is from Nebraska or Kansas, so he doesn't know a thing about hockey or its popularity in the area. I will say congrats to NDSU for getting on the Gophers schedule. It is a big step in the program. No AA football team is as popular as Sioux hockey.

  17. Hak will be on today at 11:05. You can listen on the web at KFAN
  18. I played last year for the law school. We did not have many guys, but a few could skate. We had a good goalie with a very cool paint job on his mask. Yes there was a very large Canadian on the team who was only a first year, so he should be back. Also we had a kid who played some DIII hockey - I think at Gustavus. The skill range varied, but I would guess half of the team played high school or junior gold. As far as regional HS players, I played for North, we had a kid from Minot and one from Warroad, I do not believe we had any GF guys playing. The med school cheated as usual and used undergrad "ringers" last year. They had a guy from West Fargo who was pretty good. Last year we would be lucky to have two lines and the med school always had 3+. I hear the law school only accepted students who had a LSAT score of 150+ and played HS hockey, so this year should be better.
  19. Don't overlook Holy Cross. I believe they are bringing their vomiting goalie with them. Maybe the Gophers are all sympathetic vomiters, this could be the Crusader's key to a victory. Seriously, the only decent teams Holy Cross played this year destroyed them. I predict the Gophers take out some frustration and win a 5-1 game (if the HC goalie is on) or a 12-1 game. 60 shots on goal by the Gophers would not suprise me. Bemidji is a much better team and should not have been given the lower seed. At least they scheduled some good games.
  20. Kessel already won ROY with the help of AA. I believe about 1/3 of his points were against AA. I don't buy the "phantom assist" BS, both Kessel and Potulny put up great numbers and deserved every point they got. However, as much as I dislike him, I think Irmen was the best player on the Gophers when he was healthy. Kessel is a very good set up guy on the PP - the knock against his teammaking skills was debunked this year IMO. I think Carle deserves the Hobey this year. However, I think Parse from UNO will be getting a lot of looks.

Awww right. I believe DMT driscol and myself will all be at the Northside BW3. Look for three Sioux fans around 30 in age drinking green beer.

  23. True - but they should not be out on a Friday afternoon watching ND and WI play - even if they are they would likely be cheering for ND or at least against WI. The last time I was at BW3 up North they had the Gopher game on the big screen and it was full of Gopher fans. The last time I was at Bennigans in Moorhead it was full of Sioux fans. I guess the hockey fans around here really pull for the local kids. The Sioux need to recruit Weisgarber or Galt -they will increase the Fargo ticket sales.
  24. Myself and some other posters on here are planning on meeting at BWW up North - in the nice part of town
  25. Who doesn't know when to quit? The vast majority of every group wants to keep the name. Maybe the PC people should focus their resources on the real problems in Indian Country. The only people against the name are the ultra leftist PC types and the "poor me" Natives who look for "racism" like Jesse Jackson has done for African-Americans. I suppose CBS is going to have the wife beating terrorist Russell Means on to present an "objective" viewpoint.
