Unless he expatriates his US citizenship he has to pay US taxes. The IRS will hunt you down no matter if you're in Switzerland or Mongolia, so long as you are drawing income. It sounds like Murray had a very rare opportunity that he almost had to take. That is a pile of money to be playing in Europe, and Switzerland is a place many people can only dream of living. In GF you can drive a couple of hours and be in Winnipeg or Minneapolis. In Switzerland you can drive the same time and be in Paris, Munich or Rome. IMO Brady would be a fool not to jump on this opportunity.

They will soon with or without the closure - somethings gotta give. For me this means leaving GF as my wife is a young teacher - they will have to shut down the school at the base which means cutting a lot of teachers in an already crowded market. Besides educators I don't see the base closing having that big of an affect - it should lower rent, and some of those slapstick units they are building may sit vacant for a while, but overall I think GF will adapt fairly quick. My question is, when does this happen? My other question is - how much taxpayer $$ is going into putting the new runway in this summer? Last time I checked Ellsworth Air Force Base was just outside of Rapid City, about 300 miles from Sioux Falls.

I'm not sure. I'm just learning how this system works - it was a lot different 10 years ago. My cousin and another Moorhead player were picked up by Bozeman of the NAHL. I think to be on the protected list you had to have already been drafted - but that is just a guess on my part. People in Omaha seem to dig hockey, but I also wonder if they will be able to support a D1, AHL and USHL team.
-
I was surprised at the number of NAHL players taken. Lee, Ammerman, Fisher, and Vandevelde were already drafted, Becker is playing college hockey next year. I was surpised Loos, Johnson, Hittle, and Deutz were not selected, or at least one or two of those players. From what I understand being drafted doesn't mean much - you still have to try out. I know some of those Moorhead players have been invited to multiple tryouts. Looking at this years draft it appears the NAHL is becoming a feeder program for the USHL. I guess they want kids to play a year or two of juniors before playing a year or two of juniors

None of the above. Fargo (ND) The Fargo-Moorhead Jets Junior A Hockey team is proud to announce that defenseman Todd Alexander, has signed to play Division I ice hockey. Alexander has signed on to play for the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux in Grand Forks, ND beginning next Fall. Alexander, a New Hope, MN native becomes the first Jet to join the Fighting Sioux in the franchise

Congrats to Marto - he was picked before some very highly regarded D - namely Olimb and Hummel. Hopefully my cousin and some other MHD players get picked up. I'm surprised nobody jumped on Cory Johnson, I think he would be a very good player in the USHL.
-
But if they did it this way nobody would be getting rich. I thought it was pretty sick how much Furness and some other politicians were greasing this. It was pretty clear it was a terrible idea, so what was in it for them. Maybe I'm just being cynical, but I see at best some promises of cushy jobs after public service, and at worse some kickbacks. The people of Fargo want hockey, but they are also realistic. You cannot propose a $40 million taxpayer funded building with no foreseeable tenants. I have no doubts they would be able to get a few concerts in there, but there is no way a junior hockey team could support the operating costs, let alone generate any revenue. Plus Lauerman's is the best bar in the area, it would be a shame to destroy it.

16,771 watched - in a 20,668 seat stadium James Madison University WHO?beat Montana in last years championship D1AA game. 17,155 watched in a 17,000 seat arena (how it was set up for hockey), Denver beat UND in this years championship game. As far as TV numbers, I have no idea what they were. I do know there were a lot more D1 hockey games on TV than D1AA football games. Down South I'm sure that is another story, but D1 hockey is clearly a much bigger deal in this part of the country.
-
Come on now, D1AA is D1. That is like saying JV sports are not high school sports. The Bison are like a JV team, they will never compete with the big boys, but can brag about beating up on the other JV teams. I guess that makes the Sioux FB team like the sophomore team I am still a Bison FB fan (could care less about the rest of the sports, actually I barely care about FB), but the program has been going down since Rocky left. Bohl looks promising, hopefully they will continue to have a good showing in AA ball. Of all the dumb things NDSU has done, I still think missing their chance to go for D1 hockey 10 years ago tops the list. Too bad idiots like Irv Inniger are in charge of the university
-
I also respect a kid for not focusing on one sport. My point with Marto is that he hadn't really been tested playing with top competition. I figured teams would give him some USHL time before making an offer - I noticed the Sioux waited until after the Chicago Showcase, where he reportedly really stood out, to sign him. That may have been enough for Hakstol et. al. to sign him. It sounds like he has a lot of natural talent - hopefully he lands in Lincoln and is able to work w/ Johnson. As far as ability and position. When I coached youth hockey I usually put the best skilled player at center, then the best skating players at D.
-
This goes to show Bollinger et. al. could give a damn about the rink - they just want public $$ to help finance their real estate project. They are not trying to make downtown better, rather they are trying to milk downtown's recent popularity and cash in on it. I believe there has to be a supermajority (2/3) vote to extend the Dome tax - I highly doubt they will get that many people to vote yes.
-
I'm not trying to sound down on Marto. Of the D-men being talked about he is the one I've seen play the least - and I've never seen him play against top competition (elite league). Comparing him to MN players is not fair - and I should not have done that. From what I've seen from him - he has a long ways to go defensively, but he skates just as well as any D1 D recruit. He also has great hands. I think the WCHA is a good league for smaller D - but by smaller I think Bina type - short and stocky - 6' and 160 lbs is a little lean. I still think Ammerman and Hardwick are the Sioux's best bets for the 06-07 season. Dowzek is also on that list - although I haven't seen him play since last fall.
-
Nicely put. I am a huge hockey/Fargo guy, but this proposal is simply retarded. This is the worse case of putting the cart before the horse - let's build a rink then find a team to play in it What it is, is a proposal for Bollinger and others to get richer off the taxpayers. You would think they would have learned their lesson with the Express, Sugarkings, Bears, IceSharks, (soon the Jets) and other junior hockey programs that haven't lasted more than a couple of years. Fargo has a ton of hockey fans - but the majority of them spend their weekends watching their kids and/or the Sioux. Most would rather watch a MHD game than a Jets game (MHD had much better attendance). Plus they would take down Lauerman's - which is the best bar in the F-M area. The only thing I disagree with in your post is the SU BB would never come close to filling the arena - again the MHD HS hockey team had more attendance than the 'D1' BB program at SU.

I should have included the word 'more' before likely. I know the reports of Ammerman not wanting to play with Lee are either inflated or false, but I don't think UND has really recruited him as much. I have heard he has been talking to them lately - but with Marto signing this may not be the case. I am very suprised Hardwick has yet to verbal, and even more suprised Marto did before him. I have seen Marto, Hardwick and Ammerman play several times and IMO Marto is no where close to the other two. All three are considered "offensive" minded, in MNHS play Ammerman had 48, and Hardwick had 66 points. Marto had 37 against much weaker opponents, although his supporting cast wasn't as good. Maybe he can become a Fuher like D-man. I imagine his USHL stock just went up - along with his chances of being selected by Lincoln
-
If Marto gets a scholorship without any USHL time I would be very surprised. He may verbal, but I would find it hard to believe he is going to sign this early.
-
Both Ammerman and Hardwick are likely coming in 06-07 so it is likely one of them. Either way I haven't seen anyone act like Fetch is since the second grade Edit - I didn't know PCM was related to King Hippo
-
Kyle Hardwick is more like 185

Fargo South - now that explains a lot. So you were cut in termites? That explains your frustration towards hockey. The only thing I don't understand is how a university like MI allows such poor journalism in its student paper. I've seen better written articles in junior high and state prison periodicals.

I thought you were dead. NDSU will never get hockey as long as idiots like Irv Inniger have positions with the school and or city. The CHA's best hope is to get a DIII school to jump up - which probably isn't going to happen. Maybe one of the Wisconsin schools would be willing to move. Bemidji and UHA both have good hockey traditions (yes Alabama has had hockey for years). I'm not sure about the rest - but it would be good for college hockey to have these teams around.
-
It shows up on my computer - you have to find a pic of Owens a few years old to get a real good comparison. Not sure how I can fix it since it works for me

What about and

A very good showing by team ND - I guess they proved me wrong Team MN won the tourny again - Moorhead's Cory Johnson scored the game winner in the third. It should be interesting to see who gets picked up by USHL teams in the May draft.

I am probably in the minority, but two seasons ago I had lower seats and missed two games - both of which I gave my tickets to people that used them. Last year I went to one game in the upper GA - I will not get into that experience again but needless to say my wife refused to do that again, frankly I decided I would rather watch the games on tv. Luckily I know a lot of people that had extra tickets here and there so I made it to about 1/2 of the home games. My point, if I had my 108 tickets again I would have gone to every game. The fans in 107 were great - nothing like the major a-holes in 30?(whatever is next to the students in the corner the Sioux score twice). Personally I'm done at UND this year, so I don't have an interest in how they do things next year. However as a fan of Sioux hockey I want a good student section so I hope they get things worked out. From what I've experienced the way they distribute tickets was left up to the student gov't - leaving a job to any gov't entity ensures things will get FUBAR'd. The student gov't is no exception - the way they screwed things up this past season was so bad it was almost impressive. The lack of foresight was truly amazing. Let's make everyone line up a block away - then run, brilliant.

What league are they going to be in when they move to CA? Hopefully Jason catches on with another team or follows this one to CA. I've never been to either state, but I imagine CA is a lot nicer than NJ. 2 goals and 3 penalties - nice work.
