  1. I have to imagine a lot of people who dislike the new logo feel like I do. I truly do think it is hideous. I think some small improvements (like what some people on this board have done) would make a big difference. I also am way to sick of the nickname logo fight to go anywhere other than this message board to complain. Petitions, emails to the University ... they aren't often read or listened to, and frankly the administration isn't going to act on them. The last time there was an uproar about something, Kelly put No Nickname back on the ballot for a week or two then took it back off. I'm tired of all of this. The new logo was going to happen, I just hope they make the necessary improvements and add another (BETTER) logo to the mix.
  2. Because nobody can really read Santiago's name when he is running that fast anyway.
  3. Because they want to confuse us?
  4. Because the name on the back is more important than the one on the front?
  5. Is there a reason we haven't see an article on this from Schloss or Miller? There has to be a reason Baker isn't player, whether it is personal choice to leave or dismissal. Regardless, it would be nice to see some information when this happens. Some people on this board claim to be "in the know", so share the knowledge.
  6. Agreed, this is a nice improvement.
  7. Good post, though I will continue to complain about eliminating the interlocking ND symbol. I wonder if that logo will be treated like the others and be included in the Dacota Legacy collection.
  8. Had we never had the Brien logo, and this mockup was made, nobody would give it a second look. I think it is a pretty unique look for a hawk logo. Regardless, I think UND needs some variation of that type of logo. I personally like that 'head dress/feathers" because it gives a flavor of the former logo that everyone loved, while still being completely a hawk logo. Want to get more people to buy into the new name? I think something like that would help. Getting rid of the name and logo was bad. The new nickname process was painful. Phasing out the ND is pointless. The new logo works, but more is needed. UND seems to be focusing on purging everthing historical about the program from the name to the logos. Not sure what the intent was on the ND, but I think fans would like to have something to hold on to. Just my opinion.
  9. Actually yes. I think they could have used some variation of this concept logo as well as a variation of the logo they chose. As I mentioned in another thread, the concept art could lead the way toward a mascot, if that is something that the school wants. You can call the concept art a cartoon. Some have called the logo that was chose a bank logo. There are issues with both options, if they were the only options in place. States the importance of having multiple logos.
  10. Totally get your point, and completely agree.
  11. I don't buy the headdress business. They are feathers ... birds have feathers. It is incorporating school history into a new name and logo. Regardless, if you think it is an ugly logo, that is an argument that I can completely understand. It is kind of how I feel about the new logo. I think it would be fine as a secondary or alternative logo, but I would prefer something similar to the concept art. Not necessarily that exact one, but some variation of that. I honestly didn't see the state outline incorporation, and I agree, this logo could get rid of that part. If UND is going to go all in with the "Fighting Hawks, they could definitely implement a mascot, but I think you need to implement a strong logo from which the mascot can be based. I don't see any scenario where the current logo could be developed into a mascot. The concept are would be much better IF the school wants to move towards having a mascot.
  12. You could also easily tie in a mascot based on this logo design.
  13. I have to admit, I would really start getting on board with the new name if we had something better. I really like the concept art in the below link, or at least some variation of it. https://www.behance.net/gallery/34630947/University-of-North-Dakota-Fighting-Hawks-Concept
  14. agreed, it really does end up looking like a P
  15. Does anyone know what the intentions are for putting the logo onto green helmets? Outlining the green ND? Changing the color of the ND for the green helmets? Obviously green ND and a green helmet won't work.
  16. I could care less if Notre Dame is better know for the interlocking ND logo. UND has also used it for a very long time. I'm not saying it has to be our only logo, but there is no reason to eliminate it completely. I see this as an another attempt by the school to purge everything that was ever tied to UND when we were the "sioux" in an attempt to force fans to fully accept the new name and logo. Seems to me like they will only upset more people. Forcing fans to accept the new name isn't the answer. Having created a cool logo would have been the right way to go about it. I think this works as a secondary logo, but they need something much better as a primary. It'll be tough seeing those football helmets without the ND.
  17. Agreed, I think Schaeffer would have handled it much better; but I've never like Kelly. Hawks it is, but the logo they provided is just pathetic. I can accept the name (at least for football and basketball; it'll always be Sioux Hockey to me), but they need to at least put a better or alternative logo out there. This would be ok, if it wasn't the only one, but they definitely need an alternative. I really just don't see this being a great "helmet" logo. Like I said, some of the concept art I've seen has been much better than this. I'm sure it will improve with additional logos and changes over time.
  18. I'll need to see it before I comment too much. I am cool with putting a new logo on the helmets, but I'm really not impressed with this particular logo. Some of the concept art that has come out in the past several months all seemed better than this. I'll be interested to see how the new logo looks on the helmets, but I am beyond disappointed that the school is phasing out the interlocking ND logo that has been a part of the school for long. The only possible reason for this is to give fans nothing historical to hold on to, to try to force people into fully accepting the new logo. IMO, they are going about this all the wrong way. Force people, and you actually piss people off. Pick the right name and the right logo, and you will get more (not all) to buy in. I would never full buy into the name and logo (I admit I have a tough time, particularly with hockey), but I have been fairly open with football and basketball. Hawks was one of my least favorite choices, but even so, had they chose the right logo they could have got many more people to buy in. Unfortunately, they did not. Any alternative logo, will be ESSENTIAL at some point (SOON).
  19. why do they have any less right than any of us to express their opinions?
  20. really sucks that they are phasing out the interlocking ND instead of just keeping it in addition to the new logo. As for the logo, I probably wouldn't have been thrilled with anything, but I am disappointed that this is the best that they could come up with after all of the time and money that was spend. It really is pretty boring and shows now creativity. I saw several mock up ideas from other that would have been a much better alternative, and there was most certainly a way to create a logo that would have incorporated a taste of the previous name and logo with taking away from the hawk name, and also remaining PC. Overall, I'm not shocked. It just another poor step in an overall poor process by the University. I'm glad that Bubba and some of the coaches and athletes are enthusiastic about the name and logo, but certainly can't expect everyone to be quite as upbeat.

    2016 Season

Are there rumors that he might not play for UND this fall?
  22. Hard to have high hopes for this given how the whole nickname process has gone. I'm still going to refer to them as the Sioux, but I may try to be a good alumni and buy a shirt or something if the logo is decent. Otherwise, I hope they still make some apparel with just ND or North Dakota on it.
  23. No clue, and I certainly am not going to criticize how UND handles its hockey player from a playing time or roster perspective. I was just speculating in response to some other comments. David certainly had opportunities to play and didn't exactly do a ton with it. To be fair, there may have been some lofty expectations (particularly from fans) purely because of his last name and the success his brother had. Nevertheless, I don't care who you are, how high of draft pick you are, or what you have done in the past, you spot on the roster needs to be based on your effort, motivation, and current production (not necessarily measured by points either).
