Does anyone know when the Men's basketball schedule usually comes out? Just curious to see who we get this year.

This works for me. I agree the team needs to think with that mentality, but as fans, there was no doubt watching the SBU game that our lack of offense was at least partially due to them being good on the defensive side of the ball. Regardless, I think we turn it around this week and play a more fluid game. Can't have so many 3 and outs, have to find a way to sustain drives, run the ball, and wear them down. For those who are concerned about their offense (which they DID NOT show last weekend), the best way to eliminate that threat is to keep them off the field. Run the ball, Wear them down, Control the clock. Can't wait for Saturday!

Agreed, O-Line is key ... but I have to believe they will play better against Bowling Green. SB had a tremendous defense, and we had to shake off some rust. I think these guys will continue to gel and get better throughout the season, but hopefully we see a nice improvement this week. Have to sustain drives and wear down their defense. If we establish our running game in the first have, they will be good and tired by the second half. Can't wait for the game. Go Sioux!

Yep, that's who I was thinking of. -
Agreed! Run Run Run Should hopefully limit their passing game too! Regardless, we just need to play North Dakota football and get back to what we were doing last year.

They had a pretty good guy on defense a few years ago too. He was an UFA and I though he was doing ok at the NHL, but I really don't know. Can't remember his name right now though. -
Per the Bowling Green Forum, there is a 90% chance of thunderstorms and gusty winds on Saturday for the game.

I'm all for playing tough, but you have to be smart too. You want to make the extra effort fine, but you have to secure the ball. It was tough to see, since the quality wasn't great, but it really looked like he stretch the ball out and the defender just took it out of his hands. Maybe it was just an unfortunate situation with Clive basically landing on top of someone (preventing him from being down by contact). Its certainly easy to critique the play when you are watching from the couch with a beer. I guess in the end it doesn't matter, sucks for the team to have lose the ball and lost the game. Sucks for Clive. Sucks for the fans. On to Bowling Green.

agree wither everything you wrote. I would have like to have thought Studs would have moved seamlessy into this season too. I'm sure we will see improvement in the next two games.

If you saw, he was already being brought down. He wasn't going to carry the defenders for another 4 or 5 yards to get into the endzone. Aside from putting himself into a vulnerable situation where he gets seriously injured, he fully extended the ball out in front of him. He basically handed the football to the defender. Gotta secure the ball. I'm not opposed to fighting for extra yards, but you have to take care of the football.

ok, lets see MSUM play the SB defense then. I get your point, but even when the ball did get to the receivers there were multiple drops. Can't place all the blame on 1 player. Everyone, including Studs, knows he played a bad game. 1 bad game, compared to like 7 good ones last year. He'll bounce back. Yes, coaches could have done something different to protect the punter, but there are multiple areas we could have won that game. I've already stated I feel bad for Clive, but he put himself in a very vulnerable situation stretching out the way he did, when he was already being taken down. Instead of tucking and securing the ball, he tried to extend for a few extra inches. He already had the first down and should not have extended the ball like that. Do that and we likely, score, win, and keep our top WR.

I agree, but I'm not ready to burn him at the stake yet either. As hard as many of us are being on him, I guarantee you he is being even harder on himself. He knows he wasn't good last night. He know he could have done more to win that game. He will get it corrected. At the same time, he didn't let the punt get blocked either; and as bad as I feel for Clive, he tried to do too much instead of securing the ball. Secure the ball and go down and you probably win, and don't get injured.

Stony could have the top defense in the country. If not they are right up there. I don't really care if they are #1 or not (statistically speaking), if you are even close to the top, you are good. NDSU does have a great defense and they always seem to get better as the season goes on. But Yes, they do have a much more complete team. If there D has an off game, their O picks up the slack and vice versa. I've heard through other threads that Cole is ok, nothing more reliable than that though. Feel bad for Clive, but now it is next man up. I do anticipate Stony being a pretty decent team though, remember their offense wasn't good, but they were playing a top D as well. I actually though Carbone played better than I initially expected, at least early on. Their D could definitely win them a few games. I think they have a pretty good RB, but that didn't really show because of our front 7. UND will be fine. Time to get to business for BGSU.

Agreed, but are we really going to question Studrud? He played 1 bad game this season. He played like 7 good games last season. I'll judge on the overall body of work and trust he will play better. If he has another 2 games like this, then I agree, but he will get back to his normal form. I'll cut him a break for his first game and playing against a top defense.

ok, I must have been screaming or drinking at that point. First I was mad that clive didn't secure the ball and just go down. Then I was mad that he was injured. Oh well, S*%t happens. Next man up!

If anyone really wants to get down on this team, remember Montana last season. Yes they started with a big W against NDSU; then they went on to lose to Cal Poly and Liberty. After that they went on to make the playoffs and beat a good SDSU team. Point is, it is a long season, and there will be a lot of ups and downs. It would have been nice to be 2-0, but it was more realistic to be 1-1 after 2 tough road games. That can still happen. I know most people expected for SB to be in the win column, but now we just need to get that win somewhere else. Win a different, close, game. Maybe that is N Arizona, or Bowling Green, or Mt St on the road. No reason to get down on this team yet. They are the same talented bunch that we were excited about going into the SB game.

replay? I was watching on Roku and I didn't think they had any replays. Just wondering if I was missing something.
-
Agreed, I don't think it was dirty. Clive was trying to get extra yards, and was stretched out on top of a defender. It almost looked like he handed the ball over to the defender; I'm not sure if the ball actually hit the ground or not. On a different thread, someone said two broken bones in his leg. Not sure if this is accurate or not, but it is all I have heard. Also heard Reyes should be fine.
-
If thats true, that sucks! I fell really bad for the kid; he was poised to make some noise this year. Like I said though, once you have the first down and you've gained 15 yards, there is no need to open up and stretch yourself out like he did to gain another inch or two. Pull the ball in and secure it, and go down. If he does that, we likely win the game and keep our #1 receiver.

I agree, some of these posts are ridiculous. Its ok to be disappoint, but there is a long way to go before our season is over, or a failure.

Next week will be a very different game. Have to remember that this is not the same BGSU team that was in the bowl game last season. They have lost a ton of players (QB, RB, and something like 4 receivers). They do return the most experienced O-line in college football (not the best, but the most experienced). They also lost their coach. I expect their play style to be the same, but not their talent level; it will take some time for them to gel. SB challenged our front 7 with the run game, and overall, we held them up pretty well (62 yards rushing for SB). BG will challenge our secondary, which looked pretty rough early in the game, but seemed to play a little better as the game went on. Maybe I've missed the update, but has anyone heard how Reyes is doing? SB defense was also very good at locking in on Santiago and limiting the run game. Last season we could see Santiago get to the edge and turn the corner, and SB sniffed him out almost every time last night. I expect him to have more running room again BGSU. Someone on the BGSU forum stated they thought they would have the best front 7 in the MAC this year, which seems pretty bold considering how bad their run D got torched by Georgia Southern in their bowl game. I'm not a good judge of O-lines, but I didn't think they cost us the game by any stretch last night. They will certainly need to continue to grow and improve, but I though they were ok for being somewhat of an unknown. I wouldn't expect this to be any different next weekend. #1 most critical thing for UND to beat Bowling Green is better QB play. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I really like Studsrud. He showed why he was the starter last season, but he was awful last night. Didn't play well under pressure, and didn't play well when he had time. I trust that was partially due to being the first game and that he will get back to his true form. Special teams were ok, and I was really thinking Dussold was playing ok, up until his punt got blocked. That is SO unacceptable, especially given where they were on the field. On to Bowling Green! Lets get another FBS win, even up the record and come back home!

My outlook would be better this morning, if I had not poured that extra whiskey in the 4th quarter.
