  1. Graduate: Ausmus, Hrinkiw Likely to Sign: Brock (Obviously), T. Poolman, Poganski (based on current reports) *It will be interesting to see what happens with Tucker and his injury. Outside chance he comes back, but probably gone. Pogo should stay, but will probably go get paid and play in the minors. 50/50: Cam (Turned down offers last year, already has a title), Jost (obvious NHL talent) *If I had to guess, both Jost and Cam will be back; but I would not be shocked if either left. Unlikely, by possible: Gersich, Gardner, Wolanin *We always seem to have a few that sign early that shouldn't. Gersich is the most ready to make the move talent wise. Gardner has the size and physicality. Wolanin played much better as the year went on but could be a really good 4 year player. If you could keep all 3 guys through their senior year, you could have a ton of talent. Actually, if you look at how many good Sophmores this team has, we could be really good next year, and really really good the following year. So much good talent coming in to add to the mix. Mismash will be a stud. I like Kawaguchi to light the lamp too. Jones, Keane, Bast ... Love this program; it is always easy to look forward to next year! Really hope Tomek is ready to step in and play some game. Kids has the potential, and I'm ready to see it. Anyone who questions what they have seen from Tomek, need only look back to Cam's first time getting some game time for UND. Heck even look back to his first game last year against Maine. I'd say he has turned out just fine; I assume Tomek will too.
  2. I hear ya, my point was just that you retain your top talent unless they are a massive distraction. Granted, maybe there is more to the situation.
  3. And for those who don't remember Tyler Hirsch, He just about killed himself with this dumb move after losing to UND, in what I believe was a 3rd place game at the WCHA final five. Psycho!!!
  4. Yeah, there is just no way I can believe Boeser leaving would have been better for UND or Brock. Brock couldn't help having injuries, anymore than any other player can. I'm sure he played when he could, but have to understand he also has a lot more to risk being a highly drafted player with a bright future and money on the line. If Brocks situation was affecting anyone in the locker room, it is on the coaches and captains to address those issues, and the team certainly seemed to come together to close out the season. IMO, IF there were and real locker room issues, it had more to do with losing 8 games between January and February, which is on the team, not one person. Hard for any team to cope with that stretch, let alone a bunch of kids coming off a championship season. By the logic that Boeser should have left, we may as well not welcome back Jost either. Which would be completely preposterous. If you have high end talent, you want them back unless they are a total distraction. And I mean huge off the ice issues, or getting in trouble publicly, or losing their f-ing mind like Tyler Hirsch from the Gophers did. As was mentioned, 1 or 2 things go differently last Friday, we "could" be playing in Chicago, and the statement about Boesers return is even more asinine.
  5. Agreed! I do think part of what Kelley did to make people upset was implement a committee and a vote, but then take the most popular option off of the table. Now, I understand why he did not want the "no nickname" option, but I do think that move upset a lot of people. Also seemed like the committee weeded out a lot of legitimate options early on. Ex. I thought Nokota (Nokes) was a decent option and could have had a cool logo. Committee nixed that because it sounded Indian and was too closely spelled to an Indian tribe, when it is in fact the state horse. If that is the case we should probably eliminate "Dakota" from all official school language too. There were a few other decent options as well. End of the day, at least we are not SUNDOGS!!
  6. My .02 The nickname battle is over. The "official" name and logo are set; whether people like it or not. I think a lot of the anger is not just for the new name and logo, but they way they were shoved down peoples throats. Regardless, it is done. I have somewhat warmed to the name and logo, at least for football and basketball. I'll admit, I still call the hockey team the Sioux, and probably always will. Partially our of habit, partially because, that is what it was when I went to school there, partially because I like Sioux better than Hawks, partially because the name Fighting Sioux was SO intertwined into the hockey history, partially because I'm stubborn and defiant, and partially because ... I Can. I haven't bought any Hawks gear yet, but probably will when I get to Sheels in Fargo in a few weeks. I'm not completely defiant, and while I love the name Fighting Sioux, I support UND. Also want to buy a current hockey jersey before they are gone too. Want to protest the name, keep wearing your old Sioux gear to games. There is no shame in that. It is still part of the history, and still represents UND. Keep cheering the name if you choose to. Frankly, I think it is dumb for people to put down those who cheer on the old name, just as I think it is dumb to put down those who cheer Hawks. Everyone adjusts their perspective at different times, everyone has different feelings about the name, and as with any socio-political issue, putting people down or berating them based on their views is not going to convince them otherwise. Hawks, Sioux or otherwise. That being said, I think at this point, formal protests in attempt to change the name or logo are far beyond worthless at this point. The name is what it is. The logo is what it is, though I get why not everyone likes that logo. If you really want to make an impact, initiate a letter writing campaign to the school to NOT replace the logo, but ADD to it. An additional logo may draw in more fans of the name, it allows for additional merchandising options for fans, and if you do it right, could even create a potential mascot, which appeals to families and young fans.
  7. Yep, whenever I make it up to Fargo or GF and have some pepper, I say I'm going to hand in my adult life and go back to college too. Seriously, what is the kid supposed to say? F you all, I'm going pro! I'm sure the kid is just pleasantly appeasing the people asking him. That being said, if I were a betting man, I'd guess we will see him one more year. The article make some great points about him being NHL ready, but another year at UND solidifying his immediate NHL contribution. Also picked UND partially because of Toews, who stayed 2 years to develop. Could have gone major junior route, but was set on college; I'd assume this was always likely to be a 2 year commitment. Also made it very clear just how excited he was to be here, and how great the culture was. Also just played with Brock Boeser who stayed for a second year to continue development. Also just had a heart wrenching loss in the NCAA tourney. That is the kind of loss that gets some kids to return and end on a better note. No guarantees, but IMO, we see Josty as at least a top 10 finalist for the Hobey next season.
  8. I also think Malone made his biggest jump during his senior year. Maybe a product of the talent around him, but maybe pogo could do that if he stayed. Tough to know.
  9. Agreed, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't benefit from one more year. Even Jost took huge strides in the maturity of his game. The Toews comparisons were all warranted. Hope he looks at Toews using 2 full years to develop, even with the age difference.
  10. Don't sleep on kawaguchi. I'm thinking he could light up the score sheet next year.
  11. Agree, rowney was a solid college player but never a star. Great that he made it to the NHL, but it took a lot of work to get there. Certainly didn't look like an NHLer when he was at UND.
  12. Agreed, our D improved drastically over the season. Hope mismash and kawaguchi will be productive freshman on the scoring sheet.
  13. Only silver lining on yesterday, that is the kind of loss that can convince "some" players to stay another year. They don't want to go out like that.
  14. Big ten. I believe I read that they refed the championship last year.
  15. Yeah, i guess. Frankly, I'm just looking forward to the game tomorrow, and pulling for a big time Fighting Sioux win! Can't wait!!!
  16. Yep, there are plenty of people from opposing teams on twitter that can talk hockey and rib eachother in good nature. He is not one of them. Though, if he is sincere in his potential donation, then it is hard not to support that. If he is truly full of BS and just being even more of a jerk, then he can deal with that when he meets his maker. No way I'm gonna stoop to this guys level and bicker with him about some of this garbage. In his opinion if you wear, wore, or ever will wear a Sioux logo, you are a racist. Shows how ignorant some folks are.
  17. Hope not, since he actually tagged the group he would donate them to and they already thanked him.
  18. I'm going to throw a shoutout to @BurntBoats, who is a Boston University fan. On Twitter, this person is very intolerable. Already called me a racist several times just because of my twitter handle and logo. BUT offering to buy tickets for less fortunate people, IF UND loses and tickets become available, which is a very admirable move, and for that I will overlook the unkind things that he has had to say to me, and about a large amount of our fan base. I would encourage anyone on twitter to take the high road, and compliment this individual of his intentions, despite any vulgar put downs you may receive. I think most, not all, of us can understand that there are people opposed to old Fighting Sioux nickname. Everyone has their own reasons, whether it has to do with their own heritage and beliefs, or their own socio-political beliefs. I also think, there can be an understanding between those who support the old name, but understand those who don't; and those who did not support the old name, but understand why some did. This is not one of those people. Unfortunately, this is a closed minded individual, who believes if you wear the logo, you are racist in every sense of the word, and uses the word racist in a very liberal manner. It is not worth arguing with this individual, as you will accomplish nothing, but I do encourage fans to take the high road and compliment this person on their intentions. Again, IF UND were to lose and this person donates tickets to less fortunate, that is a very commendable action. Just my opinion.
  19. The one Duluth is defending.
  20. Public service announcement for all dog owners, particularly in the Fargo/Moorhead area. There will be free dog neutering service provided at the Scheels Arena this weekend, so bring your Bulldogs and Terriers! ... and Buckeyes too
  21. .... where are they eating tonight?
  22. THIS!!! Just rack up the shots, and look for the rebounds. We get in trouble when we try to find the perfect shot.
  23. Agreed, he has looked much better. Would still like to see him make some quicker decisions and rip some shots from the top of the circle. Though that goes for most of this team. They seem to hesitate on their shots, and let the defense clog up the lanes. Quick shots will be especially crucial if we make it to Saturday and play the Dawgs again. Duluth is really good at taking away the shooting lanes, and we need to be a little quicker.
  24. oh, I'm sure Blood started it. Hilarious to watch though. You can actually see Ben just laughing at the guy.
