  1. I think UND comes out and establishes the run early. Lots of 21 personnel groups. I think they want their new and young FBs and TEs to get some good work and try get comfy in the run game heading into the SDSU week. I could also see them spreading them out and running the ball out of some 1-back stuff. They very well could throw one up early in the 1st 2 plays, but I see the theme being establishing a running game early on and giving Bartels some easy reads and intermediate throws to gain confidence. I think Valpo will be coached up and ready for the deep throw early. Can't wait.
  2. Wow, Tom Miller really outdid himself on that. I can only hope he continues to do that in the future for each week's game preview. Bravo.
  3. I get it. There's merit to that. Winning definitely helps. But how about having some loyal UND fans with some conviction that don't just front-run all the time too? That would be worth something.
  4. The lack of knowledge by our hockey-only crowd about other UND sports on campus just frustrates me to no end. MafiaMan, I know you are just asking questions and I am glad you are showing interest in UND Football, but there is just almost this elitist attitude of ignorance towards anything non-hockey by many (not you and not all) fans. I just only wish our hockey-only crowd would invest some time into following the other programs and take some interest and attend the games. The UND fanbase for all sports would literally be second fiddle to NO other school at our level. We have a unique advantage with our UND following because of hockey. It would just be so amazing to have everyone pulling in the same direction for all sports. I really hope to see that happen sometime soon. Maybe its wishful thinking, but it would be so great. Sounds like you understand the Valpo scheduling reasoning now though. Hey it's a step in the right direction. Thanks for stopping by and asking about the UND Football program, MafiaMan.
  5. I'm hearing Bartels steam as well. I so wanted Mollberg to win the job, but if Bartels is named the starter for week 1, this competition is still far from over. Joe will get better and injuries happen just like last year. I also think it's way too early to talk about transferring. The Chris Belmore/Reed Manke situation is the perfect example of why not to. There is more than on-the-field football lessons to be taken from this situation in the longview. Ask Reed Manke. I hope Mollberg is mentally strong enough to understand that he just needs to tighten up his belt and go work harder, rather than start thinking about transferring already. He seems like he has a good head on his shoulders. Times like these are when we will find out what Mollberg's made of. Best of luck to both kids. Both are very talented and we will no doubt need both of them before all is said and done.
  6. My understanding is that the SID's from each athletic department are required to produce and submit a weekly depth chart to their opponents. I would imagine the "Valpo week" UND depth chart should be released on undsports.com in the next couple of days.
  7. Unless injuries arise to force their hand, I hope they both redshirt.
  8. He's talented enough for sure. But given our depth at WR, there isn't sound reasoning for them to do that. (edit: unless there is some injury we aren't aware of) He's probably just been giving the upperclassmen some breaks on their reps. IMO, no chance they pull his redshirt.
  9. Agreed. Whoever may win the job needs to have some time to settle in and start learning how to lead a team and take command of the offense and the huddle - the sooner the better. Doesn't have to be permanent, but just give them the opportunity to be 'the guy' and adjust from there. I do not agree with the QB by committee approach. The coaches will have had approximately 35-40 practices between spring ball and fall camp to decide. I hope an announcement is made by the end of this week. Excited as hell for this season to start.
  10. Tools are great, but you have to be able to utilize them correctly. If he ends up being 80% of Freund as a QB, I will be thrilled. I think Freund was/is underestimated. Great cerebral QB with lightning quick release and great accuracy. Was also pretty dang athletic himself. That being said, I hope Mollberg utilizes his tools to become a better QB than Freund was. That would be great.
  11. What a great thread! Keep going!
  12. Talk about hockey in the hockey thread.
  13. And to be clear, I'm not grabbing my pitchfork and torch and trying to start an uprising against Alerus Financial or UND to get it changed. This thread is titled "New Turf at the Alerus". I simply stated that it is my belief that they dropped the ball on it....twice. Then I was told my opinion was deemed "whining and complaining" and that I need to "deal with it" and "get over it". It's not impossible. "Paging Gate City Bank..." Now look what you made me do! Ok, it's the offseason. Will someone snap a football please? And I agree, in the big scheme of things, this is way down the totem pole. But it's a 'talker' on siouxsports.com. I digress. Moving on...
  14. Doh'kay...
  15. No it's not. In my opinion, they have done the field turf twice and have missed the boat both times. If me wanting a UND logo at midfield and "complaining about it over and over again" as you so eloquently put it is too much for you, then again, I guess I'm sorry. I'm not sure what else to say. I'm not asking for miracles here. Just a UND presence at midfield. I understand the business aspect to all of it, I really do. I just don't agree with how it has been handled by Alerus Financial. There can still be Alerus logos on the field with a UND logo, cant there? You can also change them out in a couple years if need be. Like you said earlier, "get over it". I'll try keep my whining and complaining to a minimum for you from here on out.
  16. Sorry if wanting a UND presence at midfield of our home stadium is asking too much for you, Sic. My apologies.
  17. Some of us just disagree with you and want a UND logo and presence at midfield. Get over it.
  18. At least they did the end zones differently this time. This is better than the first version by far. But I still don't understand why Alerus Financial and UND can't get a 'ND' logo at mid-field. Figure it out.
  19.  Dan, you are something else......carry on.....what a beauty.....
  20. And from the "you cannot make it up" department.......I am speechless.... Good 'get' for FU...
  21. Hell no. I would certainly hope not. We don't need or want that baggage.
  22. I'm not so sure about that. FU as an academic institution?.......meh. UND would be more attractive academically than FU, that's a given. Geography is a wash between both of them. What's that mean? Not sure. This isn't the end of The Summit league raiding. You may consider UMKC "Summit Trash" now, but as a number and member of The Summit, they could potentially look really good in a year or two if another team or 2 leaves for better options. Would you take the former SL conference outlier, Southern Utah back now if given the opportunity?
  23. Yeah, Dom and Vandrovec are bewildered and just can't understand the UMKC deal. They just can't seem to grasp that geography and academics matter, which puts both SU's way down the list. There has NEVER been more proof of that than now. There's an article that says UMKC, Valpo, Illinois-Chicago and Loyola(IL) will get Missouri Valley visits this week: http://www.kansascity.com/2013/03/31/4154451/umkc-to-get-missouri-valley-conference.html This is very telling as to where the SU's stack up in the big scheme of things. At least UND has the academics side going for them. Geography, not so much.
  24. The names "Rover" and "Flyer have been used throughout the years for the safety position on the UND Defense. "Rover" is the strong safety, "Flyer" is the free safety.
  25. Ummm....your first link needs to be fixed.
