:points at Goon: SIEVE SIEVE SIEVE SIEVE SIEVE SIEVE!!!

Good or bad remainder of the season, you can still count on something: At least the Gophers will end the season better respected than the Timberwolves and more than likely the Wild. They already have done better than the Vikings and it's not even playoff time... Heck, when all is said and done, the Gopher hockey program will still be the only winning big time program in the state this year. Despite the fact that I hate basketball, here's hoping the T-wolves only win something like 20% of their remaining games. Then they'd fire McHale and the road to recovery will begin for that program.

I dunno. I'd hate bodily injury coming to Adam... Campion got injured during a game (A UND game ironically) and he's gradually gone downhill from then on. Adam...well, injury or not, he couldn't get any worse, but it is never classy to call for anything that bad (not that you are). I'd love to see Adam fired and the news going public. It's not like Adam would be without income. I think this isn't his primary source of income.

Because Genoway is well liked, Finley is over 6'3" tall and a first round pick.... and he doesnt play like Smaby or Greene or Commodore. Since Genoway is better liked, he's given more of a pass. Finley isn't. I could go on..... Thought you'd know that by now.

But they don't necessarily run away. They just don't drop the gloves. They just yap and then try to avoid the blows if punches are swung. I don't approve of it, yzerman19, I just see that as their strategy. And they've done it in the past regardless of the score.

Same story, different school basically. A few players have done that in the past. And Clarke won't be the last either.

I think Gregoire has a good shot at being offensive potw or at least rookie potw this week. So does Eids. Gregoire and Lasch each had 4 points on the weekend. I don't think any other player in the WCHA had that kind of a weekend as far as I know. A few got close, like Fontaine of UMD and I think Wiercioch of DU (all assists tho). No goaltender gave up less than 4 goals over the weekend for the WCHA. That being said, I'm sure it could be anything.

FS- Thats why he went to the Force. Herter was tabbed as an assistant for Blais.

I think there's another point I'd make in support of what I said: If the opposing player drops the gloves and your player doesn't, the team and its fans can remember that they cannot hear what is being said nor can they hear anything that player may have said leading up to the event. That means, on tv and on radio and even in the stands, the audience will only see the opposing player dropping his gloves. That gives the homers the opportunity to call the opposing team a bunch of goons. Something we have seen in the past from Gopher players, fans, commentators, and coaches.

I have a wild idea about this whole Lucia/Jones thing. I am speculating (and that's all it is) that Lucia did indeed want to go with Jones, but Hill told him to do what Lucia always orders his players to do: Instigate verbally if at all possible and then let the opponent drop the gloves and skate away. Sure, there's no dignity in it, but it will surely draw a penalty on the other team and the Gophers could use that to their advantage. It's happened many times before. It wouldn't happen in MJ or the pros, but because even the act of dropping the gloves in the NCAA is illegal, it is a surefire way to go onto the powerplay if you can find the right opposing player and make him lose his cool. I don't like that idea, but it certainly makes sense to me with regards to Minnesota. I've never seen other WCHA teams try to do it. UW in the past has employed diving (so has, at times, Minnesota). To my shame, I feel so has UND (Porter and JPL have been known to dive). Minnesota is the only team, that I know of, that has put on the appearance of trying this tactic. I cannot say for sure because I don't know what is said between coach and player at any given time at UMN. Just an angle I'd throw out there.

FS92- I agree that the sig is a bit big... As for Clarke, he was a big time defensive prospect. A lot of hype behind him, though what for I'm not sure. I guess he was projected or is projected to be a top defensive prospect for the NHL Draft year that he's eligible for. He committed to UND and joined the Fargo Force. I don't recall if he ever played a single game for the Force, but he bolted for the Q. Personally, I wasn't all that surprised that he bolted. When he committed there weren't a lot of "experts" that said he'd be going to college route. I wonder if he committed just to ensure that he had a fall back plan if the MJ team that held his rights wasn't who he wanted to play for or didn't offer the package he wanted.

Golf Channel? Who can watch golf? Talk about boring. Get me out on the links, let's play! Throw on the Golf Channel and I'll fall asleep in minutes.

I thought Gopherz didn't live in Grand Forks and was travelling to the games this weekend? That might explain things. And Gopherz has a long way to go before he/she (whatever) becomes truly a troll. I find more objectionable behavior by Sioux fans in these threads than by her leading up to the series. We also have the one hater hanging on for dear life floating around here...

I guess it is true, but not really. I think it is a conditioning issue. Here's examples: John Tavares goes off to WJC, junior team trades him, he played more games than Fairchild/Hoeffel/etc. in the WJC, and he returns now to London (OHL) and scores 1g 2a. Or how about Filitov? He comes back, gets called up immediately to the NHL and scores a hat trick. What I think it is hitting on is the fundamental flaw in college hockey: players who are used to playing more games leading into the WJC will have less of a problem upon returning from the WJC. Hoeffel/Fairchild/etc. are conditioned to the NCAA style season. So, when they come back, they're not conditioned enough and they're out of gas. It is truly one of the only things I think the players that go the college route miss out on.

I predict a Sioux sweep and the scores won't be close. I'm always 100% correct on Sundays!
-
Yeah. I'm not sure I see much of that here tonight, stupid comments by Stoa, Woog, and Hill aside.

Say what you will about Russians in the NHL, but has anyone seen the NHL Network's commercial for the All Star game? I really like the shot of Ovechkin. The camera angle is unbelievable. It was during the skills competition, which is the only time I think that showboating is ok in the game of hockey. The other commercials suck. Like the NHL Center Ice commercial. The message is alright. The retard in the Penguin sweater needs to go though. I wonder if the ad writers intended to make him look like a 42 year old virgin who still lives at home?

Comon! Join the Fire Hakstol movement. Everyone's doing it!

Uh.... don't fall for the bait.

This weekend settles it for me.... Fire his ass.

Stafford with an assist tonight. In non-Sioux news: Goon, I hope you didn't start Huet tonight. He was a sieve tonight. Filatov returned from the WJC and scored a hat trick. Also Tavares returned from the WJC, got traded to London, and scored 1g 2a in his first game back. Kinda makes you wonder about NCAA WJC participants (not just Gophers)

I think the telling stat is 6 goals on 28 shots. That tells me the Gopher D wasn't there. Normally, we're not the winningest team when we shoot less than 30 SOG.
-
That's to be expected. Gopher arrogance... it starts with the program and works its way down. I wouldn't call Jones' move classless. Unnecessary, perhaps, but classless no.
-
Seriously... Good win by the Sioux. Great Sweep by the Sioux. I wish Jones didn't try to start anything. We might've squeaked out a shutout.
