  1. I think UND has an excellent chance against Bye. Bye is having an off year and is vying for last place and the worst record in the NCAA simply because they lack good goaltending and have atrocious offense and special teams. It was still good enough to split MTU in Houghton. That being said, I think we're going to see a lot of backups. I project Walski gets the start and we'll see Blood, Fienhage, Davidson, and the whole crew. If things go well Friday, we might even see Harrington in net! I say UND 6-1, 5-2
  2. Because of the distance one must travel to get back to Omaha, it really limits what I can and cannot do. The Final Five is out. I can probably swing golf in Watertown this summer, though Golf in Fargo would be better as I'll be spending considerable time back in ND.
  3. Yeah, but usually you can guess which way the refs will bend. On this one it's hard to say. I just hope no one gets seriously injured.
  4. I'm only 500 miles south! Comon down! Aw heck, I'll meet you half way... in Brookings.
  5. Yup. Here comes another NCAA crackdown. Remember the definition: My entry to the NCAA Dictionary: Crackdown - noun:- An action taken by the NCAA Rules Committee in response to serious or repeated misinterpretations or misapplication of the rules as stated in the applicable NCAA rulebook (insert specific legal mumbojumbo) by on-ice officials. The result of a crackdown can vary, but usually results in a single interpretation and standardized application of the rule stated in the initial crackdown. For example, all hits along the boards deemed checking from behind shall automatically be called a five minute major and the player immediately given either a game misconduct or game disqualification based upon the judgment of the on ice official. What's left unsaid is this: Crackdowns' main purpose is to remove the judgment of the officials from certain aspects of the game because the NCAA Rules Committee feels that the on-ice officials continuously cannot call that aspect consistently nor appropriately. Crackdowns would not be necessary if hiring practices and accountability standards were not only enforced, but rigidly applied to every official at every level within the DI ranks. INCLUDING that of head official. That is simply nonexistent or rarely ever achieved. Hence, crackdowns. NOTE: I don't expect the officials to be perfect. I expect them to be consistent, or consistent as much as humanly possible. I expect the rules to be applied equally throughout a contest and throughout a season including the post season. That CONTINUOUSLY is a problem.
  6. Dagies- Right on. It very well could be that perception. But it also bites us as well. Almost every fan can find it difficult to admit that their team has acted goonish in the past. Even if the "past" began minutes ago. Eids gave up 3 goals last night but it could have been much worse. I still think he was the difference maker. Hopefully tonight we'll actually bury some pucks.
  7. Didn't he sit for a few games because of that? Was Anderson injured because of that? He sat on the ice for a little while but he got up and skated off pretty well for an injured man, didn't he? Zajac's move wasn't very classy, I admit that. But I'm sorry, Anderson was NOT on the ice. He was NOT about to get ejected anyways. And he didn't leave the ice on a stretcher. He left the ice with his helmet on. And Zajac didn't sit on him flailing away. Zajac's moves weren't classy. Schack's moves were MUCH worse. Boe could have been knocked unconscious. He could have had a serious head injury. ICE DOESN'T GIVE DUDE. Pounding the back of the head, A REALLY bad place, so much so that it is against the rules in most Martial Arts competitions to hit a person in the back of the head because if the skull fractures and impinges on the brain stem, the dude isn't out cold, he's out DEAD. We're comparing both classless acts. Both were emotional and both were illegal. However, where severity is concerned, the Schack business was FAR worse. Boe was NOT going to put up a fight. One doesn't fight much when their mind is screaming in pain from an ankle that's messed up!
  8. We're going to start that debate again? I can rant on that all day long.
  9. I didn't read the whole thread but here are some thoughts: 1. This incident is nothing like the Conboy incident (not the Tropp incident that coincided with it) or the Paukovich incident. Why? Because Schack was given a 5 min + DQ. Neither Conboy nor Paukovich were ejected from their respective games. 2. HEY! Anyone want to know the common denominator between the DU crap last weekend and the Schack incident? Todd Anderson. This isn't coincidence anymore. It's a trend. 3. Gopherz - Uh. How do you know it is intent? Boe checked Barriball from behind. True enough and the penalty was called. Did Jutting send Boe out on to the ice to intentionally try to injure Barriball? Did Boe decide to injure Barriball? Or was it simply going for a hard check at the boards and Barriball turned his back at a bad time for Boe and Boe couldn't change course? I don't know. Either way, Boe should have gotten the CFB call, but the respective scrum, though perhaps warranted broke Boe's ankle and another enforcer type has marred another big name program. However, justifying the use of a stretcher during a game for ANY reason on a player of ANY team is INCREDIBLY classless. I can't imagine a single scenario that warrants intentionally sending a guy out on the ice to attempt to injure another player. That simply IS NOT DONE. Will Schack get a severe punishment? I'd love to say yes, as any action that results in another player's injury and especially an injury that requires a stretcher, should warrant a stiff response from the league but... Schack didn't break Boe's ankle. Who knows which of the myriad of MSUM and/or UMN players rushing into that area managed that. So, I'd say if I were McLeod, I'd suspend Schack for 2 games not including the DQ. So he's done for this weekend and the next series. 4. The real "bad guy" is the officiating crew. They allowed yet another game to get out of their control. However, we can expect no punishment because it's simply not smart to expect the Head Idiot to do anything remotely competent. I'm sorry for Barriball who almost got injured due to unfortunate circumstances. However, I'm even more sorry for Boe, whose season might well be over because of the ref's lack of control. He breaks his ankle and, while lying there turtling, Schack takes advantage of Boe's unprotected head to beat him senseless. I just hope Schack is a scratch if/when we play UMN again. I wouldn't want Trupp or someone else injured because of some stupid perception.
  10. I heard it isn't even ABBA. It's more like this stuff.
  11. Sorry, but I see UAH as sub-bottom feeder teams in the CCHA. I see it SERIOUSLY diluting the talent level in the WCHA. I'd rather have NMU. It's geographically more friendly AND it brings with it a ready-made rivalry in the annual MTU-NMU tilt.
  12. Chances are highly likely that he won't return to MSU. That's alright. As for Conboy, Tim Conboy was just like him and he's seen NHL time. Who knows. Even Cheapshot Downie is getting serious NHL time.
  13. I can understand BSU. They have or will have most of the keys towards competition well in hand by the time they enter the WCHA. UAH has a head coach with credentials but not much of a rep (Danton Cole I believe his name is) but that's about it. They would be another UAA geographically... though the winters in Huntsville will be easier on the flesh walking across campus . UNO would be ideal, but they're not going to jump. NMU would be ok, but really would end up being another UAA/MTU (sorry MEg and Suze). All I can see is that our argument of the WCHA being stronger than the CCHA would diminish significantly as NMU and at least for the immediate future BSU would weaken the conference.
  14. I think Hakstol, O'Keefe, and the UND Athletic Department should call her up and ask her if there was anything they could to do help her pack her stuff and move out. Would late April be too soon?
  15. I wouldn't mind tOSU as a member of the WCHA over NMU or GOD FORBID UAH. I know it's sad to say, but... Niagara and RMU are being considered for AHA. If BSU gets into the WCHA, then UAH is left in the cold. It could VERY well mean the end of another hockey program.
  16. Hopefully this Dell dude isn't a drug addict like that Dell dude. By the way, one of the people in that commercial was a Fargo South grad. Not the guy pictured, but there was a cadre of others. The one who is a blond.... I'll see if I can find the commercial.
  17. Conboy is going. "Aw man! Tropp did the worst damage and even Paukovich only got a 1 game league and a 1 game institutional suspension for a total of 2 games! And he really DID nearly end the career, if not the life, of a hockey player! What a rip off!" Overall, I hate to trivialize a cheap shot in light of two being committed in the same few seconds on the same player but... I think Conboy's suspension was right on. I can't for the life of me understand why Tropp is still even on the team. His slash didn't get him kicked off the team but AJ Thelen's attitude did. Ryan Turek must be going "WTF!" Trust me, a bad attitude is far easier to handle (see TO in football) than a cheap hack like Tropp. Pull the plug on Tropp, MSU.
  18. true that. And Tropp's Double DQ? I doubt WCHA officials even know what that is.
  19. didn't change fast enough is only part of it. If there is a single iota of backlash...say, for example, some idiot makes a stupid tshirt or perhaps an idiot makes a stupid remark to a NA student or even if something, God forbid, gets vandalized it will simply refuel the fire. They feed off this crap. Moving on is the least of their concern. I'm sure, once things cool down after the nickname has been changed, some of them will deep down miss the nickname because then complaining and whining at UND was much easier. As you said, UND will become just another University. Other than the usual gripes regarding how an institution could spend more on whatnot, there's nothing left to whine about. It will be an end to what they term "legit" grievance.
  20. According to WCH, Comley says that the league was unfairly going after Conboy. Uh... Then he lectures Michigan during the post game conference about class after some Michigan players apparently swore at him. Frankly, I'm impressed Michigan players even went over to shake his hand. But one thing is for certain: if Adam were on the ice, Conboy would have gotten 2 for boarding and Tropp wouldn't have gone to the box at all. he would simply have ignored the two hander. On the other hand, Conboy wasn't ejected.....
  21. I wouldn't mind Dayn as a walk on.
  22. That might be circumstantial. Gwoz may have been making that motion to Anderson in a variety of different interpretations. He also could be imitating what he felt the Sioux player (VV I believe) was doing to his player that deserved a penalty. As per Schlossman's blog, I agree about the idea of forfeit. When the official told Gwoz to get off the ice, he immediately turned around and got off the ice as soon as he could safely cross the ice. The big issue with Gwoz on the ice falls on the shoulders of campion and Anderson. They should have immediately skated over and told Gwoz to get off the ice before he had taken 3 steps and told the linesmen to get off the ice or on the opposite end of the rink from Gwoz. This is a matter of...gasp...safety. Something that the WCHA is NOTORIOUS for ignoring outright. What if it wasn't Gwoz but a rinkydink coach of some sort that really did want to choke Anderson but couldn't get to him so he choked the linesman instead? In fact, on the YouTube video, neither head official was ever in the screen at ANY point while Gwoz was actually on the ice! I think Gwoz isn't the only one who deserves suspension. Anderson and Campion do. HOWEVER, unlike Gwoz, neither official will see a decrease in game time. Mark my words. Daddy Shep has already slapped their wrists, said "Bad boy" to each, and sent them home without dessert.
  23. Hey, I found Gwoz without his wig! And he's giving the camera a "come hither" look too! Gwoz sorry Puck Swami. I know you lurk here occasionally. I couldn't resist.
  24. I feel like ever since DU killed off Gwoz's penalty, the Sioux were just hanging on.
