SIOUX Recruits - 2008-09 Updates, Monitoring Their Junior League Play
redwing77 replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Now now... Walski once played one of the best games of high school championship hockey ever! Then again, so did Englestad and he turned out to be a top notch #1 goaltender for the Sioux right? Well... was he ever even #2? -
Well... maybe they'll injure enough teams to become a TOC. or maybe that should be
-
I should add that Riley Nash was fairly nonexistant against UND when we played them.. 1g and 1a for the weekend. I don't know what his faceoff % was like back then or how he looked on the ice... I don't think Riley is even DI to NHL direct material.

I should delete that post. In fact, I will. It was unfair of me to assume it was a relative of his. Stupid of me and I'm feeling the shame. -
I agree with AZ. Nothing against VV, but he's not the type of talent that jumps right from DI to the NHL. If he had gone MJ, he wouldn't be MJ to the NHL either. He'll need a few years to make it to the NHL level. I'm not sure who to compare it to... Maybe Brad Winchester or Jeff Finger. It may even be as rocky as the path Bayda took... and Bayda's position is nowhere near solid. There's no saying he'll be in the NHL next season (remember, the Coyotes told Roche to buy an apartment in Phoenix... and now he's overseas).

Wasn't it last year that BC had a much worse season than the Sioux are having now and ended up in the NC game? I thought they were at .500 for most of the first half of the season. Say what you will about BC, but they come on at the right time and have a tenacity for timeliness. I wonder... is that because of the local environment? I mean, BC is in Boston. So is BU, Harvard, Northeastern, Amherst is like Bemidji to Grand Forks (about 95 miles west of Boston), UMass Lowell is only 37 miles from Boston... Not that they're a huge draw, but... I don't know if there are many DII/DIII hockey draws other than UMass-Boston in Boston as well.

Heh. I can see the boards now: Back to the "dreaded" goalie rotation. (Personally, I LOVED the goaltender rotation. Keeps everyone fresh). -

Since this is obviously sarcasm, how about this: Uh... all hockey players skate on water... frozen as it may be. -
I'm not diminishing Oshie's goal. I'm saying that the goal was WEAK by Osgood. Different shot or not, it hit Osgood in the torso, IIRC. Sorry... logo killers NEVER end up in the net unless it leads to a rebound that gets banged in. Sorry Osgood. SIEVE!

2 minutes for boarding IIRC.

Did I miss something? That fight looked just like a normal fight to me. If it was in response to a tactic by his opponent, he might have fit in well at UND. We saw a lot of that kind of fire from Commodore. I know it's not cool to tease last names but... Useldinger... Wow. I know kids here in Omaha that would eat that last name for lunch on the playground. :D

Chris Dilks (WCH Blog) has reason to believe that there will be no supplementary discipline. It appears as though Schack would have actually had to break Boe's ankle himself in order to get extra penalty. I'm really wondering if the Gopher "cut and run" style and the clout Lucia has is handcuffing the WCHA. I mean, they're not "known" for cheap antics (and, no, I'm not being facitious. They've may done tickytacky stuff in the past, but they're not a cheap team by any means) in the past and UMN is one of the big $$$ schools in the WCHA (UW might make more money but it's going to be close). Lucia has a ton of clout because of that. I really wish there was an alternative universe where Boe was a Gopher and Schack was a Sioux. I wonder what would have happened then. But hey... anything's really possible. Paukovich got a 1 game suspension by the league that DU added another due to pressure. He wasn't even kicked out of the game he was playing in at the time. It won't surprise me if all Schack ends up getting is a talking to.

I thought fans were air circulation devices.

I watched the replay of it. Watch it again. It's called WEAK. Still, good goal by Oshie. Happy for him, but no real goaltender would ever have let that get in the net. Not so impressed with Oshie on the shootout. Get Osgood going from side to side and you can pick your spot. See Boyes attempt. I loved Legace's homage to Turco in this game. 1 weak goal by Osgood is nothing compared to the 2 or 3 Legace let in.

I think that's silly. Teams like UNO, Miami, UAA, BC, Maine, Dartmouth, SCSU, and even UMN have had European players (not counting UND of course). With the exception of UMN (Vanek was never going to be a 4 year player.) and SCSU (Nodl was a surefire bolter too), they've largely worked out. There's always a risk for an early defection, not just to the pros. -

If those emails really do exist, I agree. I think there are a myriad of different fans calling for this. In fact, I think there may even be some from the Tribes... something like "kick them out of the league until they choose a better nickname." Or "Kick them out of the league until they give back or donate all of that Nazi-lover's money to charity!" I, quite frankly, am impressed that these Neanderthals actually know how to use email. -
I agree. Just wait until the new Twins stadium opens. I'm sure they'll be right there among the top attendence teams in the majors during the first year (they'll still just barely squeak into the playoffs and lose in the first round). It has very little to do with the team on the field being any more popular than another in the local area (though I'm sure the Twins will claim that their system is what's making it possible). Yeah, I dislike the Twins. Yeah I beat them down alot. I admit it.

I agree with most of this except.... UND takes two ties against Bye SCSU and CC Sweeps DU gets at least 2 points. UW-UMN will split. UW on Friday, UMN on Saturday.

One of the main NASA stations is there, yes. And it even includes Space Camp (yes it does exist). NASA also has major space facilities in many places along the Southern US. California (Edwards AFB), Cape Canavarel (FL), and Houston, TX are the most famous of these. Marshall Space Flight Center is the HQ of Space Camp and space exploration and space science. NASA's HQ is in Washington DC, but they have 3 sites in California, a test facility in NM, a few sites around the DC area and VA, and a few more around the US. =============================== Anderson isn't good at all, but I still maintain that Adam is the most dangerous.

Something tells me that SMN isn't a historian. Werner had nothing to do with the Atomic Bomb. He didn't even defect to the US until Germany was out and, by then, the bomb had already been developed far enough so that Von Braun would have been a useless cog in an already greased wheel. Werner's influence was in rocketry. See the V1, V2, and just about every early edition of rockets developed by the US after WWII. From what I've read, Von Braun wasn't much of a Nazi. He supported the Nazi power because they gave him money and resources. Nothing more. It's amazing what scientists can put up with if they are given whatever they want in return. He only defected because he didn't want to be Russian. MANY of his counterparts stayed in Germany and became a cog in the Russian machine.

As low as this sounds, I don't mind it. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Lucia can put halos on his players if it means an officiating overhaul.

No. Bye. If the Sioux end next weekend without any points, I think we should definitely consider the following points: 1. Finley should be kicked off the team. 2. Eidsness should be benched the rest of the season. 3. Hakstol should be immediately fired. 4. The Sioux are worthless hacks and goons. 5. Jim Dahl should be renamed Doogie Howser Dahl. 6. Goon should endevour to become the worlds foremost ABBA affectionado and openly broadcast such a claim. 7. WPoS should return to SS.com. 8. Slap Shot should refer to the Gophers as the skating halos. 9. Diggler aka Dirty should be forced to clean up his act and change his handle to "Clean" Feel free to add more.

I think it would be amazing to have a new Commish and then have said Commish hire a retired NHL official or someone from the NHL league office who was in charge of officials (a lot like hiring an assistant head coach to be the new head coach) to run our officials. In any case, if we get someone who is an administrative type who is very familiar through experience with the NHL in its current format, that would be ideal. That being said, I think the Commish still gets renewed and Daddy Idiot remains.

Bye played UAA back in November. UAA took 3 points.

I really think every weekend is a big weekend for the Sioux from here on out. Our split against SCSU means we really have to play well against CC and UW. I'm almost going to say that anything less than 3 points vs. MSUM would kill the Sioux.
