Actually, I think DU played well enough to win. UND played well enough to prevent DU from winning. We were atrocious on discipline all weekend long. The radio integrity was much worse. I could only listen to maybe 3 periods all weekend long. 3rd period Friday and 1st two tonight. Amazing how easy it was for DU to get on the PP.
-
This is the DU I expected. We're doing "ok," but not great. DU is playing much better. Let's see how the 2nd period goes.

Ok, I see your point Chief, but listen to this wild speculation: Remember what happened to the advocate who got what he or she wanted? They had nothing to complain about so they were forced to be muted. It's like Hamas and Israel. If Hamas and the Palestinian land recognizes the State of Israel, then they are forced to abide by international law and, legally, Israel can wipe them out if they continue to practice terroristic acts against Israel. So they don't. This prolongs the confrontation and makes Israel look foolish for, IIRC, they recognized at least partially the right of the Palestinian government to govern their lands. So...do the math. If the Tribes don't use the lever and the Nickname changes, they get what they want AND they get to continue to rail UND and blame them for their problems because surely the backlash will be because UND is a hostile and racist organization. The Advocates don't lose their jobs...or at least dont' have to look far to find a new thing to advocate for. I'm sure this Time Out cancellation is just another log to throw onto the fire that burns under the idealism that is victim mentality. It's not so much the lack of funding that caused the cancellation. It is rather the lack of support from UND that caused its cancellation. If UND truly fostered NA growth and prosperity, the tribes and the Indian Programs people wouldn't have had to pay any bills to run the event. Everything would be free and they can charge admission and it would be 100% profit. Now, this is wild speculation. But it is in line with how they come across publicly. At least to me anyways.

They also lean towards UNO. I think they have Cziszar or something like that. He committed to UNO when he was 5...or just a few years older than that.
-
I would also add Pat O'Leary. No.... Trevor Hammer. No.... Byfuglien Seriously, why wonder about this stuff? Everyone knows that if we could add anything to this team it would be Blais while subtracting hakstol.
-
50.5% chance. I say that, if our offense scores at least one more goal than their offense, we'll have a significant chance at beating DU tonight.
-
Sure! It didn't have to be today. Sorry for implying that. I would just love to see what everyone's talking about. Radio has been rather up and down lately, especially when UND faces a big time opponent such as DU or UMN.
-
shortsighted how? What possible incentive would the pro nickname changers have to talking when all they have to do is wait for 3 years and they get what they want? I don't see the incentive to talk at all from the Tribe's perspective. Not derogatory, just fact. Heck, if they sit and talk, they might lose part or even all of what they want. Compromise means that you don't get everything you want, but you get some. I don't see the pro-nickname changers being a party to that.

I think there is a 50 50 chance of winning. If we get ahead of DU, then we'll be winning. If we get behind DU, then we're only fighting to catch up. Remember, we need to put everyone behind us. Because, if they aren't behind us, they'll be in front of us... Goals are scored in front of us. Any more ridiculously stupid cliches? Sorry, I don't listen to the moron on the NHL Network anymore. Him and the Progressive retard.

I hate to repeat myself many times over, but was Shattuck's goaltender tested? I'd love to know more about Farrell.
-
It's worked on us before... This year too. Saturday Cornell, GLI, etc.
-
I hope your kid was playing in it. Otherwise.....

I would love it if someone would post the goals from last night on the videos page... I saw Watkins' breakaway, Finley's, and the scrum, but nothing else. It's all I get for these series. I appreciate it. By the way: What do you think of Fins' goal? To me, it was either a very weak goal or one that Lars simply didn't see. I don't know how he could have missed it though. The shooting lane was fairly wide open. Goon- Not right away they won't. The NCAA only takes action when it is either forced to, or there is a specific problem that is league wide that officials can't seem to handle. Then they are called "crackdowns." The NCAA cannot force any particular division to be more competant. They assume that the division's hiring practices, provided they follow the law of the land, work and competent officials are being employed. If there are incompetent officials, then it is up to the league office to correct the issue. So, it might eventually do something, but not to our satisfaction. That's why I believe that Shepherd has to be fired. If not McLeod as well.

Hey, I'm so terrible at predictions that I had to make an easy one to ensure I would at least predict SOMETHING right.

I think UND is willing to sit down and talk. However, UND has many opponents, their faculty members among them. I think if the state, the SBoHE, and UND united completely, there might be a bit more temptation for the tribal leaders to at least sit down and talk. SBoHE is now thinking it isn't a fight worth fighting. The State has simply moved on, as all things political do once the issue is out of the headlines. And UND is still fractured. There's no real reason for the tribe to talk. They simply wait out the 3 years and say "Well, we still dont' approve. Change the name." So, yeah, I say change the name as soon as possible. And let them make suggestions that will have just as much weight on them as I would as an alum or Johnny Student would as a student. No special treatment. And I also sponsor the cessation of the University going out of their way in other areas for N.A. students. No, not dropping funding or backing out of scholarships. Rather, a funding freeze. They get the same amount every year based upon federal funding and student enrollment. The N.A. program can instill, of course, any student fees they wish on the N.A. student population. Make the University truly equal (well somewhat anyways... until there is a Caucasian-American Cultural Center or a program for every ethnicity with equal funding, it will never be truly equal) and make N.A. students simply another student population no different than any other student population in the school. If they complain, simply tell them that everyone here is now treated equally. If the funding isn't enough, hit up the tribes.

I agree. There are quite a few. Yann Danis of Brown too. I thought his stats with Brown was because how weak the ECACHL is. He'll never be a #1 goaltender in the NHL, but I thought he'd never be an NHL goaltender...period.

I fear that DU is going to regress tonight... DU has employed the trap in the past and I really think they'll employ it tonight. That means that we're going to have to beat the trap. It also means we have to score first and stay out of the box. I also predict that the officials will once again lose control of the game at some point.
-
Sica- I agree except for the last comment. I don't think officiating has improved since 2004 so.... how could we regress to 2004 when the officiating has been subpar consistently (hey, I just said that officiating was consistent in some manner!) since then? Sorry, but yeah... everyone knows my rant. Every year they sit on it, it gets worse.

Was that the breakaway goal? If so, here's what I understood it to be going from the live chat on Brad's blog: Duncan was in the box and a delayed penalty was called for hooking right as the DU player scored. This negated Dunc's penalty but not Marto's. So Duncs came out of the box and marto went in. If you are asking about a different penalty, then I'm mistaken.

I agree with AZ. I thought Wheeler was showing every sign of being a bust being picked #5 overall. He was good at Blake. But he wasn't tearing up the USHL (Brad Miller almost kept up with him for much of the season I can remember) and he wasn't really that dominant at UMN. In fact, I'd say Stoa has been more dominant in limited time than Wheeler was. So he bolts just to brush off Phoenix (which again surprised me because Gretzky was absolutely star struck with him) and signed with Boston. And now he's pretty gosh darn good. Who knew. I knew Vanek and Kessel would be good at the NHL level. I didn't expect Kessel to be as good as he is this soon after turning pro. It took Vanek longer, IIRC. Yeah, Gopher obsession continues. But let's go elsewhere: 1. Who'dathunk that Army's Dan Hinote would have a long NHL career? 2. How about former Vermont goaltender Tim Thomas? 3. Andrew Murray of BSU... REally? 4. Ok, less so, but what about Andy Greene from either OSU or Miami or some red and white colored jersey from the CCHA? 5. Of course, Vermont's Martin St. Louis, UMD's (briefly) Brett Hull... There's a long list. Hey, just remembered. Joel Otto. He's had a huge career. Not hall of fame. Certain not all star either. But how many DII/DIII players (BSU was DII or DIII at the time) can you think of that played more than 5 years in the NHL? Joel played 15! the only other player I can think of was DIII Norwich's Keith Aucoin. However, he's only played parts of 4 seasons in the NHL and never more than 38 games during any single season.

I'd love to know about Shattuck's goaltender: Farrell. On a separate note, not concerning the midget tourney: What's the word on Emerson Etem?

How about a 4 point night for FINLEY?!?!?!?! I couldn't watch or listen to the game until the 3rd period. Stat-wise, it looks like the second was a downright awful period. DU must have been pushing and UND must not have been able to handle it very well. We kept going to the box over and over and over again... We CANNOT do that tomorrow (or rather later today) and expect to win. Also, there's something odd about this series. Remember the Cornell series? They were, at the time, one of the top defensive teams in DI. Friday night, we stomped them by 5 goals. The following night, we lost 2-1. I think this very well could be the scenario tomorrow unless we come out like we did against MTU. It is true we are playing much better now than then, but I don't think DU will roll over like UMN did. If a fight is going to happen, I doubt it will be Rhett Rhakshani. It will probably be a role player like either Nutini or someone on the third or fourth line. Gwoz might not be all that loved around here, but he's not an idiot. You don't do what he's done purely on luck. He'll adjust and we'd better be ready. DU is far better defensively than UMN is.

The Aces would REALLY be hurting if JPL left though. I read somewhere that Marek Schwarz bolted for the Czech league. Somewhat surprising as I saw him at the U20 WJC a few years back and he looked alright. His stats showed he wasn't all that great, though. According to the roster, he's the ONLY goaltender listed.

No, because to think it is applicable to those leaders on the minority side would mean that they'd have to admit that there is even a remote possibility that their opposition, in this case the majority, might be right or at least right on some aspect of this debate. That just doesn't exist. If it did, there would be compromise. There was never a chance at compromise. They are also quite ardent in what they are doing is right. Most disasters as leaders thought that, too. They feel that the only recourse is to punish the majority for the past. And whenever the punishment has been completely doled out, they'll move on. Unfortunately, that will never happen. Because once the punishment has been adequately doled out, then failures and adversity from then on would be their own fault, and can not be blamed upon others. That kind of responsibility isnt being instilled on N.A. youth. It will never be instilled until the victim mentality becomes a societal taboo.
