  1. As for goaltenders: What about Shattuck goaltender Justin Farrell? Wasn't he supposedly one of the top '91 goaltenders at least at one point? He's ideal for UND. He's from Shattuck and he's under 5'10.
  2. If batches determine success, then UW has the inside track.
  3. Chief- That's because of their heritage and how they were brought up. There are a few African Americans who try to hold back their race, such as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. However, many African Americans are now becoming more successful because they have a stronger emphasis on education and overcoming adversity through personal ambition, strength, and drive. I fear many N.A. people have no such thing. Many statistics show that. North Dakota is among the nation's leaders in N.A. graduation rates last time I checked with 56% of N.A. students graduating high school per year (2000 data). According to a site called All4Ed, in 2004-2005 that number drops to 38%. However, this does not account for a self-acknowledged 8% drop between ND State and independent sources. Since All4Ed is an independent source taking the gap info from EducationWeek, one must assume that the state probably reported a 46% grad rate. But alas, N.A. graduation rates would jump up to close to 80% if we just got rid of the nickname.
  4. I'm going to correct my last post. As it stands, Heisenberg lists the following players as 2009 - no option listed: Corbin Knight Mike Cichy Danny Kristo Andrew MacWilliam Brett Bruneteau Joe Gleason The following recruits can come in 2009 or 2010: Danny Mattson Mike Fink Though Mattson has a better upside than Fink, I still say Fink comes in next year. I'd much rather have Mattson in juniors playing and Fink riding the bench than Fink in juniors and Mattson riding the bench.
  5. I think Knight will come in before Mattson. I think Mattson would do wonders at the DI level with a year in juniors under his belt. I actually think Fink should come in next year. In all likelihood, he'd be riding the bench much of the time, which means he'll have plenty of time to heal up for injury and get used to the system. I'm glad stats don't determine DI worthiness or I'm afraid I'd have to ask what Fink's upside is. His junior career, again statistically, has been rather subpar.
  6. I'm not sure UNH even qualifies as far as tradition or prestige either. Maybe $$$. Don't know how big UNH is monetarily...so to speak.
  7. When has UNH? They've been to the finals, but they've never won it. Remember, they went to the finals in, IIRC, 2002 and got positively smoked by Minnesota. BC fans call UNH "The University of No Hardware." Their goaltender, Michael Ayers, had several posters saying "You can't spell plAYoff chokERS without Ayers" Also, if you want to include all who have, then our "conference" would have to include LSSU, BGSU, NMU, and RPI. Oh, and perhaps Cornell.
  8. I'm not sure, but if the Sioux do recruit for 09, it will be for a goaltender to replace Walski. I can't believe they'd go for anyone else unless it was one of the few blue chippers that are still uncommitted. That being said, I truly believe that, if someone like Morin was going to go the NCAA route, he would have committed by now. Who knows. Dylan Olsen is still available. Who knows what's going to happen.
  9. I didn't forget, I omitted. Far be it for me to egg on someone like the person I quoted, but I'd love to hear their response. I personally don't feel that they have much of a response to counter my claims other than to call me a racist (something I've already acknowledged) and "appeal" to my inner Mao.
  10. S f (2) - Don't know. Haven't really heard much. If we believe what people were saying when Harrington came to UND, then it might be that Harrington takes the same path as Walski and moves into the #2 slot and UND invites a walk-on for the #3 slot. I live in Omaha, NE. So I am NOT connected in the slightest.
  11. Seriously... the last true semi-competant stay at home defenseman the Gophers had was Jake Taylor. EJ was ok, Peltier was ok too. However, they were beatable at times and were continuously asked to do too much defensively because of breakdowns. It's almost like the Gopher defense is three things: Goaltending, forechecking, and offense. They are almost nonexistant in their own zone. Just strange.
  12. I still think that Minny's problem isn't Kangas. They simply have NO defensive presence in their own zone.
  13. I'm mocking the Sioux people? How so? How do you function in life? Has the victim mentality overwhelmed your sense of personal responsibility? If a police officer pulls you over for going 75 in a 55, do you countersue him for racism because you are Native American? If you screw up in some way and lose a contract at work or even you job based upon the actions you made, do you blame your boss for being racist? Why can't I have a simple conversation for which I disagree with someone without it being blanket rated? Why is it that people like you are reviled? Is it because of racism? Or is it because we're called racist if we disagree with you regardless of how civil we state our disagreement? You need to start dealing with people as people, not as races, ethnicities, or minority vs majority. I'm sick and tired of people who come on this board and start preaching about change and, when someone disagrees with them, they're accused of anything and everything. So, if it makes you happy, I call myself a racist because I continuously dare to disagree with certain N.A. posters on this site. I'm definitely a WASP....if WASP stands for Russo-Polish Jewish Grandson of a Holocaust survivor. So I guess I get to call you Anti-Semitic! Works for me.
  14. Something tells me IU basketball fans aren't a big fan of him either. IU post Knight haven't exactly been.... dominant or even...well... all that good.
  15. I HIGHLY doubt we'll chase Cheverie. Minnesota has offensive capabilities this year that has, overall, been very good despite their ineptitude against us. DU hasn't the offense necessarily that Minny has, but they have twice the defense....well, if Minny showed they had defense against us, then I'd say twice the defense. This series is HUGE and by no means will it be easy. On the other hand, I thought we'd struggle against Minnesota and it worked out. Who knows. All I do know is that this is not a series that we can expect blowouts. I personally am not expecting a blowout either way. This is not an easy sweep. Just an FYI: IIRC UND heavily recruited Cheverie and the netminder at Northeastern I can't remember his name.
  16. I just thought about something... UND could probably make it work if UBC joined the WCHA. But I'll tell you two colleges that would suffer horribly: UAA and UAF. UAA especially struggles getting players to come to Alaska. With UBC just down the coast... yikes. Hey, neither Alaska team can even keep the decent Alaska kids in the state! If I were Shyiak or the UAA AD, I'd be screaming bloody murder in support of NMU.
  17. I said it elsethread, but... I can't stand Brand. He's ruined many programs in his past. He's a huge hypocrite and an idiot to boot.... that being said, I wanted him to retire. I didn't want him to contract cancer. It's too bad for him and his family.
  18. But this post directly personifies the problem at hand. We're busy attacking the institution for the actions of individuals. The individuals aren't punish as much as the entire institution. So let's take guns. If we ban guns, will murder cease to exist in the US? Nope. Because guns are tools used in that heinous crime. It doesn't eliminate it. Attack the problem itself: people's attitudes and then worry about institutions. What about those people who properly use guns and don't kill people? What did they do wrong other than buying a gun? Racists exist. No institution name change will change that. It won't even improve it. It's even possible it will exacerbate the problem. What would have been better would have been to compromise and work with the University to make something work. There is no intention by the tribes to do anything like that. So, please... just go back to your usually schedule bellyaching. You've won. Go live it up off the board.
  19. This might seem negative, but... this is the first time I can remember where I can honestly say I'm impressed with Marto. Usually he's been, at best, solid but unimpressive. He hasn't, to my knowledge, been "awful" but he was supposed to be pretty good offensively. Well, count me impressed.
  20. DU knows how to play us and can play the style of game that gives us fits. It will be a HUGE test next week.
  21. I dunno... some of us can't give up player bashing... so I guess I have trouble giving embarrassing eras in SS.com's history a rest.
  22. Lee on the ice for the game tying goal by Ottawa... I don't think he got an assist.
  23. Like Lee? So you're saying that Forbort sucks?
  24. Yep. League leader has 30. Jeff Carter of Philly.
  25. I'd prefer UNO, personally, as that means I'd get to watch the Sioux two games a season...but I also think NMU makes sense as it would be a travel partner with MTU, though Schlossman talks about it being a partner for BSU...I don't understand that though. Bemidji and wherever the heck NMU is aren't close. Adding to avoid a double post: I don't understand how UBC adds more to the WCHA than NMU. I don't see UND favoring it because it will greatly affect UND's recruiting out West. Regardless, though, I'm not sure I understand how it is geographically advantageous or advantageous at all for UBC. Can someone explain it in layman's terms?
