Because old is in. Everything that was considered faddish or stupid from years gone by are now cool. I've seen leg warmers return, frizzy hair, torn jeans, women who tear sweatshirts off of a shoulder and then have the tank top or sports bra strap on that side visible.... everyone knows that elevator shoes and bell bottoms are back in style. I can't wait for poodle skirts, tweed jackets, and the Don Johnson (pastel Tshirt with light colored sport coat) to come back in. What it comes down to is originality. Just like in movies, originality is very hard to come by. They don't have a clue so when the society fails to have a clue, they go backwards. And yes, mullets are coming back.

Ha ha. Hasuck. He's a great goaltender and you know it! In any case, yeah, I was wondering why the player didn't just shoot the puck instead of passing it, but I guess that was just how it happens. The next opportunity, though, the Czechs capitolized because he shot it in from the red center line. Was Spirko wearing a red Czech jersey? I didn't see many wearing Czech attire except for that person and myself. I didn't see any Slovakian jerseys. Oh, on a slightly odd note, it seemed as though the Slovakian team got the most cheers. Is that because the crowd decided just to cheer for the home team or is there some strange connection? For those of you who didn't know: The Slovakian team was the home team.

Ok, I thought I'd try to make a recap out of this experience but who was I kidding? Anyways, I showed up at a crowded Moorhead Sports Center wearing my Czech Republic Hasek jersey (home jersey) and I take my seat on the maroon benches behind the penalty boxes for the game. I had a really good experience. Turns out the fella in front of me is a high school hockey ref, so I got some ins and outs of the game throughout. In any case... This game was VERY VERY close. Both teams were pretty evenly matched and neither team ran away with the shots on goal totals. I really wish I could have seen the names of the players. The Czech red away jerseys did not have names on the backs so I didn't get any names of who was scoring and such. Czech's team is a lot like Canada's size-wise. Smallish up front and big in the back. There were more big guys on the Slovakian team than on the Czech team. Czech's team was VERY fast. The first period started out very tentatively on both sides with neither team being very aggressive at first. with less than 5 seconds left in the first period, Slovakian defenseman Boris V(something... #9) scores a goal from the point off the faceoff. This guy was huge compared to the rest of the players on the ice. That would be the only goal Marek Schwarz would give up. He made some outstanding saves, but overall, Slovakia's goaltender made even more spectacular saves. The second period was all Czech Republic. The scored 2 unanswered goals, but they were VERY hard fought. There were attempts at three fights, but the refs wouldn't have any of it (Hanson was the lead ref with linesemen being Freeman and Ludwig). The third period was the most spirited hockey of the night. It started out all Czech Republic with a goal to make it 3-1. It seemed a few times that they would run away with the game until a wicked slapshot sailed past the Czech goaltender that evidentally hit the pipe, went in, and bounced right out without being called a goal. There were tons of complaints, Hanson talked to the goal judge, and the goal was allowed. After this, it started to get more Slovakia controlled with a flurry of activity in the Czech zone. With 50 seconds left, Hanson calls a Czech player for slashing (Olescz?). Now it is 6x4. In such a span of time, Slovakia turns it over and Czech turns it into a 2 on 1 odd man rush the other way with an empty net. The play of the game happens when the Slovakian defender picks uff the pass to break up the 2 on 1 and takes it the other way. The Czechs still end up scoring an empty net goal, but it was an unbelievable defensive stand. All of the goals, save the empty netter, were unbelievable "highlight reel" quality goals IMO. Of the 6 goals scored in the game, one was empty net, two went high glove side, one went high stick side, one went low glove side (between leg pad and glove) and the one from the point I didn't see where it went.. I think these two teams were pretty evenly matched. It was a very well played game. I enjoyed it a lot.

No, let's just ban people from leaving their homes.

I'm going to the Czech vs Slovakia game tonight in Moorhead. I think I may try my hand at a brief recap. And no, I'm not going to try to get anywhere near as good as PCM, but perhaps it will be an interesting read.

Uh, to each their own. In the Jewish religion, Friday sundown to Saturday sundown is a day of rest. Therefore, you shouldn't hold hockey games on those nights, date on Friday night, drink on Friday or Saturday, or do much of anything except attend religious services Friday night and Saturday morning. Choose your battles. This battle would mean an end to many many things including the NFL and various other social and sporting events.

I'm really curious as to what could cause a zamboni to explode like that. I really feel badly for the youth hockey teams in the area.

Sorry Wild fans, but I hope Tavis comes back in the NHL (if and when it starts up again) and severely puts the hurting on the Wild. In any case, my Roche's success be burned in the retinas of the wretched that call themselves the Minnesota Wild. No, the Wild are not my favorite team. In fact, I consider them one of the trifecta from hell with the other two being St. Louis and Colorado.

No. Canady tripped him.

Would you like to revisit this post and rephrase it? it appears as though you are saying that Bochenski articles that are spotlights are the only articles worth mentioning. All of his success on the ice is irrelevant, or as you say, hogwash. ABER- thanks for the post. driscol- Thanks for the post.

Then we'd best hope that Greene doesn't try to play sans helmet

Gee... didn't see that coming kfah-- Generally, I'd avoid pop, light rock, acoustic, country, holiday, religious.. well, I'd just stick to rock.

I thought a great intermission activity would be to "chuck a puck" at Breezer. Knock him over or any part of his costume off and you win a prize or are entered into a drawing for a prize. Dumb mascots cool name or not, don't belong on the ice.
-
Ok, this is a slight tangent, but I'm going to put my plug in: I like Spirko. He always seems to work hard when he's on the ice. And he is a great passer.
-
Who cares? I thought Breezer was a dumb mascot. I'll think the eagle will be dumb too if it steps onto the ice.

Who are the captains besides Suter?

I don't know what it is they play but I like it. Good combo of great plays, goals, and hits. It is before and during the game that the music seems to suck. Heard Billy Joel and Dave Matthews on Friday. and, from what I gather, cfm's name is a type of aircraft engine used to power airliners... perhaps the 737?
-
Because there is only one type of person who doesn't complain: the dead. No, I know we hear "But Bob would have wanted this." No, Bob's dead. He's not saying anything.

Speculating on whether Minnesota would have scored more against Canisius is meaningless! First off, Gopher fans would never go for a Canisius vs UMN showdown for fear that they would not be able to use a preholiday series vs UND of this caliber to taunt us. Everyone knows not a whole of them can handle teasing very well. Secondly, I think the Gophers would have played Canisius similarly: Good grief it's Canisius. It's not BC or UW or UND! In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see JJ play. If JJ plays, for sure you know what the Gophers think of their opponent's offense. The whole reason why we play a series like this is to provide morale. The Sioux have had a tough season thus far. Everyone in the WCHA (I think) has had at least one off week so far except UND. Canisius playing would simply be a neat series where they can go out play hard, but have fun without the stress involved with playing a WCHA team. Off topic, but I think this year overall, there continues to be a huge disparity between the strength of WCHA teams and the other conferences. Incredible.

Interior Division goaltending must suck except for Prince George and Vernon. I mean, when a backup goaltender can beat out the rest of the league, save one team's, #1 goaltender for the last slot... wow.

But by comparison, at least it was the players making the charges and not the boosters (Notre Dame). Also, you may note that Conley, the VP who fired him, was a long time adversary. I don't think the players convinced her, I think the players finally gave her the excuse she needed.
