  1. Tell me about it. I guess it would be like instead of holding the football game vs GVSU at the Alerus, holding it in the FargoDome so that the greater population that Fargo has over Grand Forks can come to the game. I can hardly believe that Mankato's AD would ever consider giving up home ice advantage. It was going to be enough of a blow out with the game in Mankato. Now, I can't see Mankato coming to within 4 goals of the Gophers on Saturday.
  2. its hard to get playing time as well when you are a senior and have put up some solid numbers the past 2 if not 3 years <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  3. Hometown Mankato fans get boned by Mankato AD. Gophers extremely pleased that their away game is now only across town. ESPN.com Link
  4. Wooo.. I think we will have to start practicing. Canisius has 1 vote.... I guess we can't start all our scratches against them. Wookiee is for real.
  5. I was unable to view it.
  6. POI is Pride On Ice. It's the Gopher's official website that features a message board similar to this. http://www.prideonice.com
  7. I love seeing Nick take a shot. I wish he did it more. He seems to be very accurate with his shots. Let him loose!
  8. It's interesting really. When an opposing team gives props to another team that isn't theirs, especially a rival of theirs, it seems like there are a few people who have to come in and say "Yeah! That's why we rule and you suck!" And so on. There is nothing wrong with stating respect to a Gopher team that faced adversity before the season began and came out of the gates playing FAR FAR better than anticipated. I do agree that it is only November, but a strong showing is still worthy of respect. I agree with sagard. Keep it nice folks. I don't harbor any warmth for the Gophers, but one HAS to admit they are playing extremely well. They have some players who are contributing at a level very high. A good question for sagard et. al. With Goligoski and Potulny's performances this season thus far, do you think they'll last until their Junior years? Is there remotely a chance that they will stay for 4 years?
  9. Quit clouding the issue with logic! It's almost like saying the key for UND to defeat Pitt next week is for UND to outscore Pitt.
  10. But they will be up to the task. They bent a bit vs GVSU, but they never broke. I think, as I've stated before, offense is the biggest issue right now. Our defense will show up to play, play hard, and do well. I'm sure of that. Defense wins championships, so we have a good shot. After all, Baltimore and the NY Giants won superbowls and their offenses both weren't anything to write home about. I'm hard on the offense, but I think it doesn't have to go as poorly (fundamental wise) as it did on Saturday. Let's come out gunning, pounding, covering, slamming, and nailing next week!
  11. I may not know as much about football as I do about hockey, but I saw what I saw. I admit, fully, that many aspects of my analysis of the defense may have been exaggerated. It just was frustrating to see them play the same play over and over and we couldn't really stop them. As for our offense, call me a moron then. I'm standing by my analysis. We have good RBs and a decent O line, but the wide recievers need to learn how to catch the ball first then run. There were 5-10 passing plays that should have been caught if they had concentrated on just catching the ball instead of the move they are going to make to try to break a would be tackler that hasn't reached them yet. I mean, I'm talking about off the hands of the WIDE OPEN reciever. When there is good coverage, I tend to let it slide. 2 fumbled snaps, 1 was lost the other turned into a busted play (which is smarter than trying to force the ball in, I'll admit). At least 2 long INTs that were nothing more than punts that weren't kicked (amusing to me rather than frustrating), and a 7 step unassisted sack (does Belmore get credited with the sack?). I saw a LOT of offensive mistakes. Maybe those mistakes wouldn't have amounted to anything even if they were remedied. Who knows, but I generally give grace to plays that get busted to the credit of the defense or an attempt that is beyond the skill of those involved in the play. However, when the basic fundamentals of the game are broken, football or hockey, I'm not going to give them the benefit of the doubt. They should know how to catch the ball/pass the puck. I thought that there were several players who had good games. We did win and I'm happy they won. However, if we expect to put up some sort of contest against the offensive juggernaut that Pitt State is, we'd better fix those fundamentals fast. I trust Lennon will find a way.
  12. Ok, my thoughts on the game: 1. Rating the teams overall. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being "these guys could beat anyone right now" and 1 being "Are these guys DIII or a club team that stole the jerseys?" I would say that UND recieves a 3 and GVSU recieves a 3.5. Both teams looked pretty bad. In fact, the fact that UND looked worse than I've ever seen them and still won the game, can be considered a good omen. 2. QB: Could we please settle on a QB and stick with him? Inconsistency while on the field is one thing, but does Bowencamp or Belmore even know going into it if he's going to be in the game the next quarter? The next time they are on offense? Admittedly, both QBs didn't look very good. Bowencamp couldn't get on the same playing field as his recievers and vice versa. Belmore possibly played the most inconsistent of any player in any league I've ever viewed in person (from High school up to NFL). One minute he's sensational and the next minute he's either helping the GVSU defense with the sack or just plain forgetting to take the ball before setting the play. That being said, I don't care if you have to flip a coin. Take a QB and stick with him. A rotation may work for goaltenders in hockey, but it doesnt work in football. 3. WRs: A hint from someone in education: You have to know the basics before you can take it to the next level. Meaning? CATCH THE DAMN BALL BEFORE YOU THINK ABOUT RUNNING! I'd rather have 0 yards after the catch than the POSSIBILITY of a TD should you CATCH the ball. BASICS BASICS BASICS. You want a tape to watch, watch GVSU's #2. He caught the ball nearly every time it was thrown to him. He didn't pull a Brian Shroeder off a Brett Favre pass (bounce off the numbers), he didn't let it bounce off his hands. CATCH THE BALL!!!!! 4. Defense: GOOD WORK boys, you are the only reason it was even close. The only thing I can say is, where was the homework? GVSU ran that option from the shotgun, what, 30 times? Is there a way to stop it? The way they were succeeding, I wouldn't have altered it at all. Every other time they ran that play they ran for 8+ yards it seemed. I would have to think they would have designed some defensive plays to try to counter that play. Evidentally, though, I was wrong. Also, this week in practice: Open field tackling. Let's try it sometime. BUT BEAR IN MIND: You guys are the best of the best even with this critique, After all, you guys showed up to play, unlike the offense, which took sheer luck and two GREAT offensive line plays to pull this game out of the posterior. One little bit of homework, Pitt State scores a TON of points. Word to the wise: The offense that has been absent the last few weeks..... NEED TO FIND IT if we are even going to dream about the NC game. Bottom Line: Good win, but we were lucky. Let's shore it up, and get ready for next week. End Rant
  13. Exactly. The Gophers are amazing which is a suprise, but what the F is wrong with the Bulldogs? Reichmuth is breaking down, their defense is falling apart, and that offense isn't scoring... Losing to SCSU like that? Wow.
  14. JPar isn't so scary if your remember Siembida. He's had some bad games... two to be exact. HOWEVER, Brandt's three goals vs. Minnesota were worse than JPar's by far. He didn't even see one of them. JPar is capable of some great saves and he's got a LONG way to go before he'll become a poor goaltender or even a mediocre one. He's not stellar. He's not Karl, Ed, or Phil. However, he's not Josh or any of the other duds to come through UND either. JPar is a butterfly type goaltender. Could someone please post that goaltending thread on USCHO up here again? He is a bit aggressive, but saying that he leaves the net area too much is a bit much considering that, thus far, all of our goaltenders have that tendency. No one is calling Phil on that goal he gave up vs. SCSU where he came halfway out of the defensive zone. Goaltending is about playing the angles. I'm not going to lose faith in JPar until he totally loses it. He did well against SCSU and generally gives each game everything he's got. He's not a headcase like Siembida (who again looked awful recently for Quinnipiac) and actually brings things to the plate when it comes to defense. Despite all this, I would like to see Brandt play at least once more before January, because if the Cansius series comes and goes without seeing Brandt in net, I highly doubt we'll see him at all until the senior game.
  15. I can't think of a single member of the 2000 NC team that I don't miss seeing. They just worked well together. Kollar was good and won big games when Karl was out, but it was VERY clear that Karl was the #1. Bayda was unreal fast and good, but I think the line of Ulmer-Goren-Panzer was great too.
  16. I think the main problem with women's hockey attendance wise is that it's new and the demand for this niche isn't very high. The program is new and has very little tradition, if any at all. Now, mind you, that brings great opportunity to start a tradition, but when the men's team has the corner of the market, it's tough enough. However, I'm thinking that the local high school teams even hold the edge over the women's team among those people whose kids are NOT on the teams (assumably the uncommitted public). If I had a choice between UND women's hockey and a Red River hockey game, I'd go to Red River. I think it's more personal preference more than anything, but that's another topic. I've gone to two or three women's games so far and the best I can say was: BORING! Let's face it, one girl runs into another girl. The result? 2 minutes for body checking. LAME! I mean, even the music played during the game doesn't smell of sports, it smells of cheap R&B and LizzFair (or whatever that all chick lollipalooza is). Every time they get a goal scored on them we have to endure Twisted Sister. If I hear "We're not going to take it" just one more time.... I've been saying it for years, but I'll say it again. Since the women's lib movement broke out, women have been beating down doors saying that they can do everything a man can do and do so just as well or better. I agree. They can. So, let's make them put there money where their mouths are and simply say "Ok" and implement men's rules on the women's game. There can be a few gives and takes along the way, but I don't see why checking shouldn't be allowed. If they were allowed to play the person and not the puck, which is what it was in the men's game, I think it wouldn't be a lot of figure skaters with sticks wearing pads moving a puck around while doing camels and triple sow cows while the best the defense can do is pray that their sticks can steal the puck without hitting one of the moving bodyparts. In other words, take the "women's" out of women's hockey and make it hockey that happens to have all female players. Lose the purses and pick up the sticks!
  17. There are threads and threads and threads about him in various places. And should the Sioux jump in? No. We shouldn't waste our breath. Why? Because USCHO's recruiting ticker has reported that he has narrowed his choice of schools down to Wisconsin and Minnesota. The only surprise to me is not that we weren't recruiting the guy, because we may have early on, but that Michigan was eliminated. I had predicted him going there. It's now only a matter of time before he commits somewhere. But where he commits is hardly the topic of a thread here as we are very sure it won't be at UND.
  18. The fallout from saying this is entirely your fault. Not mine like last time
  19. Off the instate recruiting topic, but news nonetheless, Jimmy Spratt, a decent goaltender that I thought the Sioux should look at for next year, has been signed to play for Bowling Green. I'm thinking that maybe we should recruit a good goaltender for 06 and take a walk on like Moreland in 05. What do you think?
  20. I'd love the head of Jon pasted on the body of Chewbacca Or a Before and After the haircut picture with the phrase: Shear Stupidity underneath it.
