Canisius: Defense Indecently Exposed and Left Dangling In the Wind
-
Being one of those Sioux fans who rooted for the Gophers vs. UNH, I'll explain why. It's simple. For every 10 second clip on Minnesota ESPN showed when talking about the NC game, they showed 45 seconds of UNH clips. I do have a "hatred" of the Gophers, but nobody is worse than HEA and their cronies, ESPN (when NCAA DI hockey DOES get any attention).

I did bring up Hale because he played for the Sioux. So does Greene. The reason why I brought them up wasn't to be a Homer, though it is easy how you would see that. I brought it up because I've watched both players play. I would list Orr in that list, but I didn't see him play at all. I've only heard about him from my father, who watched him play. Second hand knowledge can get exaggerated, so I omitted Orr. What if I left Hale off the list and used, say, Taylor or John Scott instead? Would that bring more credibility to my list? I would think not. Hale was brought into the equation because he was a hard hitting defensemen that MOST people on this board would be able to recognize. Greene has been undisciplined at times during this season and his freshman campaign (a lot of his freshman campaign). However, the refs seem to go with reputation to put things over the edge. If Bina had been where Greene was when he got called last Saturday, would Bina have sat? Hard to say, but if it were borderline, I'd put my money on no. If Greene had committed that hit to Murray except done it to Schwabe, would he have been called? Yes. Yes he would have. It may not have even been only 2 minutes either. Greene hasn't done well this year. I will admit that. Perhaps it is the curse of the letter. Last year Schneider took a nose dive when he strapped that C on his jersey. The year before that, Hale looked more like just another player on the ice rather than an offensive or defensive force. I have faith in Greene. No doubt it will be his last in a collegiate uniform. I also don't think you can place all of the blame on Greene's shoulders. I'm sure he's already doing that to himself. There are plenty of reasons why we aren't winning games. UMD wasn't better than us on Saturday. They were opportunistic and took advantage of a poor officiating performance and unusually sloppy team defense. Phil can't stop them all.

I'm going to delete that post. Good grief people! This isn't an argument on who belongs in the hall of fame!!!! I put that paragraph together to explain that all of those players are hard hitting defensemen!!!! Some of whom are so successful at their trade that they could be placed in the hall of fame!!! Since then, it's gone to Hale bashing and ribbing me! WOW! NDFlyer - I think you're the one with lack of hockey knowledge. I've watched all of the players I mentioned play (which is why I did not mention Orr). I was comparing STYLES.

I don't see this being the case. I think we can split CC and sweep SCSU. However, I don't think we can sweep Denver or Wisconsin. The good news, so to speak, is that Denver had to cope with road games the entire playoffs last season and did well... I'm not so sure we can pull this off anyways. I'd settle for NCAA Quarterfinalists this season. We won't make the FF.

Hmmm... reading comprehension... strong suit? Remember, I put the term "MOST" in there. I didn't say all. Make fun all you want. What I was referring to was their defensive playing style. Hale threw just as many people around as Greene did, only he was smaller in size and somehow avoided the repuation Greene got. I did not say that Greene or Hale would make the NHL hall of fame.

I find it safe to say that, should ANY WCHA team lose to any AHA or CHA team, they suck. It would be as bad as BC losing to Harvard.... oh wait. They did.
-
Don't much care. We have our own problems at the moment to worry about than the outcome of some game out in the perifery. Aren't you guys more concerned that your AD is a chump who would rather sell out their own fans and home ice for a few $$$?
-
Coming from you? Anyways, wouldn't you be a tad upset if the calls of a ref or an AR directly affected the outcome of the game? No, It didn't result in the game winner, but what hogwash! I wouldn't care so much if it were a clean game. It wasn't. Seriously poor officiating job. If the Sioux got called for a penalty, watch out Bulldogs. You're next! WHAT THE F#$% ARs do NOT make penalty calls in close games UNLESS it is too many men on the ice. Anderson completely lost control of the game in the 3rd period. He didn't even know which way was up! If we lose because we were sloppy defensively (which admittedly did end up with a game winner to Schwabe) and that's the end of it, so be it. But a ref getting involved just so his name will appear in the headlines is just plain stupid. What can Hak do about it? Nothing. He can file a complaint, sure... but everyone is so buddybuddy with Greg "blakety blank" Shepherd that there is no air of accountability among anyone in the WCHA front office. We've seen that countless times in the past. They "SAY" they review games. What do they do? "Oh, Todd, that was a bad call. don't do it again next time." Or perhaps they make it a reflective bs stance like "Did this game go well for you? Why or Why not? What could you do next time to change it?" There's no accountability whatsoever. These refs can do whatever they want. END RANT

Yeah, that is kind of an interesting statistic. When we are playing a solid opponent, it seems as though we can't put two games together. For a team that is shooting for a split against UND can simply roll over on Friday and come hard on Saturday and get a decent shot.
-
So what happens now? Do we fall out of the top 10? Can Hak get any kind of retribution for the dumb officiating job done today?
-
Schwabe scores. Bulldogs win. Good job Dogs. Nice game. Folks, I'll tell you, this should now be tied 3-3. Oh well. F#CK ANDERSON!
-
Anderson and that AR are trying as hard as they can to help you out! Comon! Fire Anderson. This guy has no idea how to call a game. Sheperd misses calls, but Anderson has to be the worst. Screw him. Hak should take the fine and blast the living hell out of him to the press and file a complaint. Refs should NEVER EVER EVER make a difference. The only problem is, Stafford foiled his plans. Anderson must be pissed.

Karl can't win every game... Good job Bo! Just wish it had been Leclaire you lit up!

I'm going to reply to dagies post, but not quote it because it is LONG! In any case, that lucky save JPar made... I saw the replay and it sparked a need to ask a question: When is a goal a goal? Is it when the puck entirely crosses the red line or when any part of it crosses? It appeared that the second shot that the UMD player took hit the crossbar and skittered right down straddling the red line. In fact, I swear I saw part of the puck cross the line, but at no time did it cross all the way or even most of the way. Should this have been a goal? I agree with most everything you stated dagies. I will say, with a clearer head, that most of Anderson's calls seemed legit, but a lot of the early calls and the late calls (the one that negated the 5x3 for the Sioux for example) were BS. UMD fans can complain too, but only about the second period and parts of the third. For most of the first period, Anderson didn't even realize that there was a second team on the ice. Marvin got tangled up with, I believe, the player whose number is 4 for UMD. I don't know the UMD players very well. I don't think Reichmuth should get any flak for the goal he gave up to Murray. He was caught out of position, true, but he also has to rely on his D to take away center ice. The D was out of position and Reichmuth tried to take away shortside. By the time he stopped moving, Murray had jumped towards center ice and his breezers officially got singed. IMO goaltending is a two entity job: the goaltender plays the angles (1), and the D takes care of the rest (2). Hence, whenever a goaltender is left out to dry and he makes a sprawling, ugly save, it still should be applauded because he basically did a 2 entity job alone. As for Zajac, as I said, he's been the most impressive player outside of Murray and McMahon to me. He is the only one who has CONSISTENTLY rushed the net. Last night I saw Porter and Murray do it a few times and to that I say "About time." It's interesting to note that we've not rushed the net consistently twice in recent history: Friday SCSU game and last night's UMD game. The result? 2 wins. I kinda think they should keep doing that. BC beat us by rushing the net. UMN beat us by rushing the net. I didn't get to watch UW. Rush the net, good things happen. PERIOD. In other news, I've generally said nothing regarding our TV announcer "issues" but this time, I have to say it: Sweeney flat out SUCKS. I mean, during the first intermission HE HAD TO LOOK UP THE SCORE!!! What the HELL was he watching before the period ended? Is the DECC pressbox positioned in such a way that, not only can he not see the scoreboard, but his assistants couldn't write down the score for him (if he couldn't himself)? Ok, let's assume that he was just filling in time to get organized with the next pieces of information, then that STILL means he sucks because he shouldn't have to get organized WHILE ON THE AIR. Damn, I have no experience in TV Broadcasting, but at least I would have been organized enough to make a good run at atleast FAKING it!

Gah. That's what I get watching the game while playing Texas Hold "em with a bunch of friends. Stafford had a goal and 2 assists tonight. Murray had at least 2 goals maybe an assist. Zajac got a few points too. Boy, Zajac is humming right along, quietly but surely. For being the pre season WCHA ROTY, he sure isn't getting much press. I really really like Zajac. I wonder, if he stuck around long enough, if he would end up with an A or C on his jersey?

Very nice game for the Sioux! JPar supporters can look upon this as a game of the season for Jordan. I'm not saying that Phil shouldn't be #1. Even now I am wondering why he started over Phil, but his strong performance tonight was well worth the quandry! Some things of note: Murray and Stafford: Wow! Yeah, Stafford didn't score, but he did do VERY well in creating chances. Murray... well, look at the box score. I haven't seen a goal like Murray's second since Zach did a similar thing to Briggs last year. Anderson is a very bad ref. His early calls were shady and the call on Stafford to make it a 4x3 was simply a make up call. He didn't realize there were two teams on the ice until most of the first period had expired. After that, he was consistant. First he screwed us, then he screwed the dogs, and then us again. I can understand the protective ring around Derek Shepherd, but what's keeping Todd employed? Has he ever called a good game? Ever? I was shocked that we chased Josh early. However, he did look a lot like JPar has during the season: Lots of uncontrolled rebounds. Unlike vs. UAA (Saturday), we were able to beat the goalie glove side. We missed two goals because of our shooting the puck into Lawson's glove last Saturday. An interesting note: Lots of penalties on Jones. Very few on Greene. Peluso let his emotions get the best of him again... It will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow... I don't want a fight to happen, but with Canisius next week... I wouldn't put it past them. I hope not. We're already thin at forward. Good work Sioux! Hope you do good tommorrow!
-
Actually, I wouldn't expect Radke in the ranks of forward. If any of our current D (besides Marvin) gets put up forward it will either be Fuher or Foyt.
-
Zach Parise was the winger. They said that his size outweighed his talent and he ended up with tourney MVP. OH, and if you want to throw a fit about youth in the world juniors, we must laugh at Canada. They added Sydney Crosby to the roster last year. No wonder why they only were able to win silver.
-
Wasn't size the reason why we were told not to expect that much out of a certain winger last year? I'm sorry, I don't buy into that reasoning. If that was the case, then the same rationale could be used in the NHL regarding age. Nash, Bergeron, and Kovalchuk shouldn't have made the NHL when they did. Obviously, there are people out there who disagree with that assessment and they happen to be in positions to disregard the age issue.
