  1. Is it bad to have 2 extra forwards? I know I'd love to see everyone play, but if this year is any indication, I don't think those two forwards would have lost an appreciable amount of ice time considering the play and the injury problems we've been having. IMO I would hope Oshie does what Goligoski did with Minny: Come in only if another player leaves early (he came in when Vanek signed). That being said, if Stafford stays another year, Oshie should be an '06. With our forward situation being as it is, I think Moreland's chances of returning to the team are pretty slim.
  2. I agree! I think what is greatly overshadowed by these losses were that there were only 3 mistakes made by the Sioux defense over the weekend. That is VERY good considering how porous their defense was (not saying that it was a problem as they won both games). I think the big winner this weekend was Phil Lammearoux (I give up on spelling his name. My apologies). He played outstanding. In fact, I think this was the best two games he's played where I can honestly say that I can't think of a single goal that went in that was "weak." We held CC to 3 goals on the weekend. Minny held CC to only 8 goals. Doesn't that speak a little bit about our defense and our goaltending? Likewise, we gave up 44 shots on goal to CC this weekend vs. 65 that CC shot at Briggs. Statistically speaking, it says a lot about our defense.
  3. I wonder if this Cup is designed for the "lesser" conferences in mind. I mean, it's going to be VERY VERY hard for the ECACHL, CHA, and AHA to win a National Championship, so this may be the "consolation prize?"
  4. The best part of that bundle was that we didn't have to sell out our home fans to do it like Mankato did!
  5. You have the oddest way of putting things. The first sentence you state is really nothing more than beating a dead horse and not being productive and then you follow it up with some constructive criticism. Odd. At least you posted a combo instead of the usual "Greene sucks" posts. For that, I can respect your opinion. He does need to learn to play a lot smarter, but instead of throwing a book at him, what I would do is to show him tapes from last year. He played pretty smart last year. Don't know why it has changed. Nevertheless, I believe shep will get his wish at the end of the season. Goon is right, Greene is all but gone. I, for one, will miss him because other players look at him with a certain amount of fear. He will be valuable at the NHL level because of his physical play and defensive skills. From what I've seen in the NHL, bad calls still happen, but reputation calls are relatively rare. In the WCHA a good percentage of one's penalties, especially among players who (at one point or another) make stupid mistakes, are made based on reputation.
  6. Sure. But flaming him? Wishing he'd sign now rather than later? Implying that he is the cause of the losses? I mean, did he cause us to get swept this weekend even though he spent time in the box? Do you think Greene's penalty woes are more important than the inability to put the puck in the net? It's easy to criticize a player for doing poorly on a winning team when he is directly responsible for the loss, but it's not ok to do the same when our lack of scoring is doing the losing for us.
  7. It is interesting to note that he hasn't done that in quite a while. You see, here's the main problem with Greene: When he doesn't stand up for his players, he's a bad captain. When he stands up for his players and gets called, he's a bad player. You see what I'm saying? No matter what he does, he'll forever suck to a good deal of you Sioux bandwagoners. When the Sioux are winning, you see, the Sioux rule. When the Sioux are losing, it's because of this player and that coach and whatever. You see what I'm saying? Say I'm wearing the sunglasses or whatever. I know this team has problems, but I'm not going to point fingers except at poor fans who should really think about leaving the board. For example, like you and BDB and all of you who would rather flame than be constructive. You say that you hope the NHL is back soon. Well I hope that none of the players, their friends, or their parents read this board for fear that they see what kinds of fans frequent here and how the contructive positive fans are gradually being outnumbered by the idiots, flamers, and bandwagoners. Flame away! I'm sure that's what you are good at.
  8. I rescind what I said about last night's game being the best effort in a losing cause. It is nothing compared to tonight. We moved the puck and shot it well, but we just couldn't finish! I wonder if Zaba needs a new jersey and glove. Perhaps a new left pad? We seem to not be able to pick our shots and the end up, if we can corral the puck, going into the goaltender's equipment. Hakstol called it "bounces." I don't know what to call it except unfortunate. I really don't know where we'll end up, or even if we'll make the NCAAs, but I just hope things turn around and we can perhaps squeak in. Phil played awesome the entire weekend. A few other random notes: 1. Can anyone tell me if the penalties against the Sioux were really penalties? Listening to TH doesn't give you any impression. To him, they all were bad calls (except the one on Genoway, I guess). 2. TH talked about how well we played, but I think the glaring difference between the Sioux and the Tigers were in two words: "chance" and "score." The Sioux had a ton of "chances." The Tigers didn't have as much, but they "scored." See the difference? I'm tired of chances. Chances are meaningless if they don't go in. 3. That being said, the one thing I preached week in and week out (SHOOT THE PUCK) was finally followed and it didn't work. Thank GOD I'm not a coach, I just pretend I am.
  9. baaZIIINNNNGGG!!!!!
  10. Actually, some of that yes, but nowadays, it's more of starting a thread specifically to flame him.
  11. Ok, despite it being only one season, Dan Hinote of the Avs attended Army at West Point and he did ok. Not a GREAT example, but still, it is one. His HockeyDB stats And by the way, he uses that Army experience all the time in interviews.
  12. Could we please lock this thread? I hardly think we need a thread dedicated towards the flaming of a player.
  13. Wow! I didn't know Greene was a senior! I thought he was a junior? I am sick of the bitching too. I am sick of all the bitching going on that puts the blame of our woes on one or two particular players. The Sioux are a TEAM. The reason we aren't winning cannot be put on single players' shoulders. It is a team issue. So knock off the Greene bashing. Do you realize that he made... wha? uh.. Yup. 1 MAYBE 2 mistakes the entire game? You can't blame him for not scoring, he's not that kind of a defenseman! Oh, and by the way, before you cry about those two mistakes they resulted in a save by Phil and a penalty killed off. Total of 0 points allowed. Any mistakes that do not result in points for the opponents are not to be set aside, but are not flame worthy either. And uh, I hardly see anyone blaming the loss on the officiating. I see everyone blaming Anderson for being an extremely inconsistent and incompetant referee. There is a difference. We lost last night. We were extremely undisciplined with a few shady calls late in the 3rd period, but we killed off the entire thing! Did anyone notice that? 2.5 minutes of 5x3 (I think) hockey and we killed it off. Folks, this was not a bad game. Neither team played poorly. Just they capitalized on our two mistakes and we only capitalized on one of theirs. We have to finish more and we'll do better. As far as losses are concerned, I think we've never looked better in a losing effort than last night. Odd to say that, but it is true.
  14. (This is not meant as a rip on PCM) Matt Jones and Nick Fuher aren't stars? Matt is excellent in positioning as a defenseman. Fuher works hard every single shift and.. AND he shoots the darn puck! If points scored is your medium, then Fuher's UND record 7 GWGs as a defenseman should count for something!
  15. Very good! Murray's drop in production was, or should have been, expected. He can't score every goal. Look at tonight's game. He set up Zajac PERFECTLY.. TWICE! But the puck didn't go in. If you set people up and they can't finish, you don't get points. If you make a great shot but it gets tipped or an equally great save is made, you don't get points. In the last few games, Murray has had such luck.
  16. Alright. Sorry, Poncho and all. Deleted the two posts.
  17. I actually think that speed is great, but stick handling and puck control are even better. It was plainly obvious that Stafford wasn't the fastest player on Team USA, but his stick handling and puck control were such that he still scored consistently. I'm not saying that speed should be put by the wayside, but look at (the overused) Zach Parise. He had speed, sure, but his stick handling and puck control skills were unbelievable. I think that is what Toews is going to bring to this team.
  18. No. 20 - James Massen No. 9 - Quinn Fylling With Massen, with how he's bounced around the past two seasons, I'm wondering if he and Fylling for that matter, knows what his role is anymore. A man at a workplace is just a man unless he knows what his role at the workplace is. I don't know enough about coaching hockey to say whether rigid role assignments can be made and still play the game to its fullest, but it could very well be that neither of these two players know what role they are supposed to be playing.
  19. I would say it would HAVE to go back to the hockey team. And, starting with the next home series, I'd suggest a SUPER fan appreciation shindig to try to make amends with the people of Mankato and the businesses who boost Mavs hockey after the massive screw job their AD gave them. The only surprise you get when you give up home ice for money is that they scored more than twice.
  20. You're right. I take back my accusation on you being a Troll, but still here's a little guideline I use. Take it or ignore it, your choice: Criticism: Criticism is when an object, group, or event is judged and then advised on how improvement can be made in a positive and constructive manner. For example: The Sioux need to crash the net more. Flaming: Any criticism that goes beyond what is generally considered constructive and is used solely for the purpose of berating and insulting a object, group, or event. For example: Hakstol should be fired because we're not blowing teams away and we are losing to teams that just played better than we did. Yeah, I know he's only had half a season, but he still sucks! See the difference? Modified my previous post accordingly.
  21. I can't say what "we" think, but I think Greene will sign because of the way the WCHA is officiated. It is not friendly towards big guys who play physical. The AHL, even, is better suited to Greene's defensive style than the WCHA now. His reputation is speaking more than his gameplay and it is costing the Sioux anyways.
