Might want to check into that Joe Brock kid. Not quite Okposo nor is he from a place known for hockey, but definitely worth looking into for 2006.

Hakstol is viewing Cedar Rapids vs Green Bay tonight. He also could stick around to see them play Chicago. It could very well be that he's just checking up on Miller? Or perhaps he's looking into Dan Tormey, who is CR's goaltender, and the only one which is uncommitted. Just worthy of note: Stalock committed to UMD, so if Ziggy did indeed transfer there, he's no better off there than he would have been here.

Trademarking a number... What a concept! I'm going to trademark the number 21 and then sue everyone on their 21st birthday for trademark infringement!

Well... I don't get the Herald so In any case, my questions still apply.

I wish I had PCM and Sic's ability at finding hard statistics such as that because I'm pretty sure I said the very same thing a while back (Defense isn't the problem, offense is), but anyways, maybe now that PCM and Sic has posted that info, perhaps some of those posters will start to believe that it isn't our D's fault we're not winning.

Wow. With that in mind, how does that fare for us the rest of the season? Aren't the majority of our games at home? Short term it looks nice, but long term, it may equalize. Especially if UW or DU comes to the Ralph and wins.

KFAN said that Roger would be named NCC Commish tommorrow officially. So this brings the question: WHat's next for UND? This could mean serious problems if an AD of Kupchella's mindset is hired. Roger is money minded, sure, but he also listened to the students as best he could. I mean, even if the results didn't end up the way we wanted it, I still got the impression that he at least took the time and common decensy to hear me out. Who do you all think would make the list of potential candidates?

I just can't be optimistic about this season anymore. They've done too much to hurt the sport of hockey. Do you want to know what the best thing that could happen now? Clean House on both sides. NHL COmmish and staff fired. NHLPA staff all fired. Interim staff or new staff resume talks about next season. No, that's not going to happen, but it would kinda be interesting.

Actually, the phantom assist would go to cfm
-
However, with a Midwest regional looking like that, the only thing that would be assured is that UND would get a rematch against CC. THat lineup looks almost as weak as last years West Regional.

Good! Still, having not seen Cam Jenson play, you only have stats to look at which still makes me ask: What makes this guy so special that he's good enough to garner even 2nd in the polls?
-
I've seen him play. Let's put it in plain comparison: If you don't like Smaby's style, you won't like Dowzak. They are comparable in size. It didn't look like, when I saw him, he moved his feet all that effectively. However, he was (I think) a sophomore at SSM when I saw him play. A LOT can change in time. He sounds like a quality defenseman, but in the NCAA, height can be a blessing and a curse.

How does a player who has 1goal, 1 assist, and a -10 in 35 games have 2 more votes than the leading point scorer on Albany? Oh wait, something tells me it has something to do with his 169 penalty minutes. Kinda speaks for the sophistication of the fans who come in to vote.
-
Albeit it may have been the wrong choice, which would you have had? I'm pretty sure that Smaby was bigger than the guy he tried to play the puck off of, so if he would have laid that guy out, he would have taken a 2 minute minor for cross checking/intereference/take your pick, which could have resulted in a score anyways. With all the stupid penalties being a problem with the Sioux, him being a big target of this criticism, don't you think he might have been thinking about avoiding a penalty? This doesn't justify Smaby's actions, but it could be a factor.

I'm not sure scoring can be coached. If that was the case, Tice nor Green would be head coaches in football, Dahl would have been fired a long time ago at SCSU, and the adage "Defense wins championships" would be the laughing stock of the sports world. Coaches can teach plays that could produce scoring chances, but it is the player's responsibility to put the puck in the twine, not the coach. The coach positions the players for the strike. That's my take on it, though since I'm not a coach, I could be wrong.

I agree with a lot of the criticism going on here. The domination thing is only really true if you look at the shot totals and listened to the game. It wasn't the kind of domination like UND had with a team like MTU or Canisius. If you want to use domination as a positive, CC didn't dominate us like they did against Minnesota. They outscored us 3-1. They outscored Minny 8-4 I think. We held the HB twins to 1 assist each, and I think Sertich's assist (I could have flip flopped the names here) was added later to change the box score.

Hardwick's older bro played for UMD. There's a strong contingent who believes that he will follow brother to UMD (I'm slightly in that boat).

Thanks for posting this. It's an interesting read. I saw him play at the Ralph a year or two (?) ago and he seemed a lot like a Matt Smaby type player. Very stay at home defense like. One thing was certain when I saw him, he seemed WAY TALLER than 6'5" on the ice. That boy was freaking HUGE. I don't know who is in the lead on him, unlike with Okposo and Toews, I have no sources on where he's headed, but if you read in between the lines, it seems Minny has a better shot than us.

I think the way PCM put it is definitely true and concise. Critical, but realistic and fair. I am optimistic that we'll Sweep BSU, SCSU, and UAA and split with DU and UW. I am not such of a guru to calculate where that would put us WCHA or NCAA playoff wise, but that's my hopes. My biggest comment is, though there were some crashing of the net on Saturday, there isn't enough of it to begin with. I remember the SCSU Friday game at the Ralph where Zajac simply put himself right outside of the crease and stayed put. Genoway(?) passed him the puck and bangbang, goal. We need Prpich, Zajac, Porter, McMahon, whomever to start (in Zajac's case continue) doing that and we'll do better. I don't see us as the developing goals by picking spots like ZPar and Bo could do. I see our best shot as getting down and gritty and getting goals primarily off the rebound and screens.

Well said even though I'm as guilty as the next (being a coach when I'm not).
