My sentiments exactly. Can't expect to win this game but we can expect two things: 1. A realistic impression of what level we are on depth wise (three players injured, one more on Team USA). 2. Does Brandt have anything left... if he DOES play. (I won't believe it until I hear his name in nets despite the fact that it makes perfect sense for him to start this game). If we can keep it within two goals, I think we'd be doing fine. If we win...well, even the 1980 Olympic team lost a game before the tourney started

This is nothing new really. Miller has been playing all season with Green Bay and doing alright but not great. Brian Lee is spending most of the season with Lincoln, only not being there for the period of time when the MN HS season is going on. So he's been in only a few games thus far with Lincoln because of the high school season starting up. After that season ends, watch for him in Lincoln. TJ going to Sioux Falls is probably the same system Brian is using in Lincoln: Play the high school season out and then join the USHL for the remainder of that season. I'm thinking Vandevelde will do the same.

From what Hakstol said after the game, it appears as though they are treating this like a real game. Who knows who is going to start in goal. Phil didn't know when he was interviewed whether he'd play or not. It's all speculation on a meaningless game. I hope we can score a few goals and make it close. Question is, in this case: Who do you root for? Can you root against USA? What do you expect from this game? A more real question not regarding tommorrow's game: Do you think the Sioux will ever shut any team out? It seems like holding a team to 1 goal is as good as we can get. Now, don't get me wrong, a win is a win is a win, but it would be nice to see a shutout for Phil or perhaps JPar.

Smaby did a solid defense on an odd man rush. Can someone elaborate what was going on that helped that develop?
-
Why? Canisius isn't Northeastern. In any case, Zajac has 1 goal Radke has 2 assists Porter has 2 goals Fuher? with 1 goal 1 assist?
-
Porter top shelf. 4-1

We're missing the net an awful lot. FYI- Don't much care about the Bulldogs. Sorry, UMDogz. No offense.
-
It references the Coulter incident... I'm curious what that is all about.

Radke and now Jones get penalties. Radke's penalty seemed like a must-take. Jones seems to have taken a "questionable" penalty.

UND powerplay. We're 2 for 3 on PP tonight. Wish we could be that sharp against conference teams.
-
Pot meet kettle. You're on the other thread wondering what the BSU vs WMU score is. Bah.

My impressions: 1. Crowd- Hella lame, but what do you expect for the Canisus series at this time of year. I've never heard only half of the poop chant before. 2. Officiating: Overall, I think Bunyon was pretty good. He's a Hockey East ref. I think Sullivan, one of the ARs, is also HEA. I think it was a great game called by them. It did appear that Worosz dove, but the one thing that impressed me was the fact that he called it both ways. That is something that isn't being done consistently in the WCHA. 3. First period- We weren't playing hard. It was like they were thinking like I was: Hey, it's Canisius. They don't have a coach and they feature crotch-waving Canadians... ecept they didn't realize that there was hockey going on. When that GG player scored, I think that woke them up. Our passing was subpar and our powerplay started out being really poor. We did score some pp goals so that was good. Worosz had a great first period making some excellent saves on Murray, Zajac, and McMahon. 4. Our fourth line: How about Foyt, Canady, and Bina? Wow. Foyt had a really good night, but he just isn't a center. I didn't see him win a single faceoff and the fourth line got a lot of time it seemed. 5. TH said the three stars were Foyt, Zajac, and McMahon. I agree with him. However, apart from a temper tantrum which got him a 10 minute misconduct, I think Prpich was having a quality defensive game. Smaby played pretty sharp as did Jones. Jones was even jumping into the game, but Greene steals the show in that regard. If only he'd scored.... 6. Radke had trouble at times. It really seemed like he couldn't transition from defensive defenseman to offensive defenseman as well as even Jones could. I attribute this to experience. He'll come around, but I'm not expecting it this season. Heard a rumor that we are losing a section of the upper bowl next season. Wow.

Are you sure that wasn't a Michigan flag? Or a Mizzou?

Actually, Buckbeak is more of a Griffin. BY definition, a Griffin has the front half of an eagle, the back half of a lion. No, Buckbeak isn't a Griffin, but the creators didn't alter a Griffin too much to make Buckbeak.

He seems to have a bright future ahead of him in hockey gladiators... or perhaps WWE

First off, regarding the two years and split: Ask that to Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan regarding the latest potential 2 years and split candidate: Phil Kessel. It's never fun for a fan to endure an early departure of a star player, but it happens. The point is to try to improve the team and make as big of a run as you can. No Sioux fan would give up getting Zach or Bo. No Gopher fan would give up Vanek. No Badger fan would give up Suter. Heck, Michigan State fans are probably dreaming about another Miller. Second off, though I think geographical location has a part of what makes the decision to commit to a school, it isn't everything. Potential playing time, scholarship availability, and just getting an offer itself weighs heavily on a recruit's chances. If Grant was given a similar offer from the Sioux for the same year that the Gophers offered him in, maybe things would have been different for Grant, Ryan, and Dan. It only gets cloudy when everyone wants you. Some of these local boys may go to places like Notre Dame or Minnesota because of the offers are simply better than UND can offer. Ryan did go to Minny because of Grant. These things happen, but Dan's case is less common. Of course, this is my own opinion. For the Sioux, it's plain to see we don't have Woog-itis. We go for the best players who fit the mold of what the Sioux are supposed to be according to the coaching staff regardless of where they are from. Yeah, we have local talent on our team, but they are really fitting into the Sioux mold. In a way, it's almost like Herb Brooks' style of getting the players who can play well together the best rather than just the best players. My two pennies.

Commodore and Greene have had strikingly similar UND careers. The penalty last Saturday would have been called if it were Commodore as well. I think of it as a "reputation penalty." Edomonton was VERY high on Greene. It seems like they still are. I agree with the article. There is no way that Greene flies back from the NCAAs with the team. I think he flies right to the tryout or tries to get signed. What's happening to Greene is really, IMO, the start of a death knell for true big defensive defensemen in the NCAAs. There won't be too many of them around in the future if things like the open letter and the poor officiating continue. I'm sticking with Greene. He has had his problems, but I'll stand up for him. I don't know how well he'll do in the NHL. I don't care really. It's not the Sioux's problem once he signs. While he is a Sioux, I'll root for him. I hope he makes the NHL someday but the reality is, not everyone does.

I think he could be a chaser.. After all, it's not like he's ever caught up withanyone

The oddest thing: We split UMD and for that, we went from #9 in the USCHO polls to #8?!?!? Bubble of some sort.

Tie Domi. Stu and Bob occasionally scored goals. I would say Tie Domi or Scott Parker.

It's going to be easier than you think. Bognar was suspended

Most likely the Tri City Americans of the WHL (Major Juniors). They selected him 1st overall in the WHL Draft
